I’ve been thinking about these complaints and have watched and come to the conclusion that.

It’s not as simple as moving the ball.

Hear me out…..Ball movement looks great because it can cause the defense to scramble. When we (The Magic) move the ball the defense won’t scramble because they are not actually threatened.

Defenders can close out controlled because they actually prefer that we shoot a semi contested shot. If there is not an overly aggressive close out the ball handler can’t get by and score or cause help leading to better look.

The ISO is not the most effective but it’s more likely that Paolo or Franz (usually) will draw help which can cause the defense to be in conflict and scramble.

This needs to be addressed this offseason it’s not something we can fix by just passing the ball around to non threatening players.

The issue is that the iso almost always comes from two guys that attack the rim like 80-90% of the time.

If both of those players cannot generate 3 point opportunities themselves, then the offense becomes predictable.

Driving and kicking it out to guys with zero shooting rhythm, for lack of opportunity throughout games, becomes the only way to generate the 3 ball if you take fast break points out of the equation entirely.

The solution is running more diverse action at the point of attack with a player that can actually create off a pick/roll option. None of that exists on this roster. Paolo and Franz are being utilized in 1 dimension on offense and it’s creating boring, predictable, defendable, basketball regardless of how good they happen to be at it.
