Re: Who do you want us to take at #1?
I think people are very much underrating the fact that Jabari is SO young. Look at this body...its obvious that he has a lot of physical maturing left to go. He could still be growing...but he for SURE will look A LOT different in 4/5 years. As he matures physically he will become more explosive/stronger.
Paulo is young but he's already filled out a lot of his frame. Chet is almost a year older and I am not sure his frame will look drastically different in 4/5 years. I think if you're swinging for the fence the pick is Jabari.

Orlando should be swinging for the generational rare elite talent that can’t be compared to anyone outright. People vying for Jabari should have wanted the #2 or #3.
Orlando already has a bunch of one way B+ guys that aren’t primary options and franchise cornerstones. Is everyone 100% sure Jabari is more than that? The gamble is whether or not Chet is that player moreso than Jabari. That answer isn’t going to come from college stats.
I personally don’t think bigs can be THAT player in todays nba. I’m just coming around to the idea that Chet has the better mentality, upside, and overall game compared to Smith. Worst case is Orlando misses on smith and finds another stretch 4 that can hit 3’s at a high clip. So what? There’s no Holmgren out there that replaces his weird two-way skill set. Orlando needs to swing for the fences if they think Chet has the highest upside and more diverse play style.
I’m ok with either Jabari or Chet. I just think that Chet is the kind of player you will regret taking more than Jabari if he pans out. Jabari doesn’t seem like a primary option with all the information we have.
I get it and I agree with you … to a degree.
If Chet hits, he could be what? KG - KD hybrid? That’s probably a bad comp but how do you build a profile for someone so rare and special when they reach their potential? However, if he busts it will be equally spectacular in the legendary status (Darko and Bennett territory).
Jabari meanwhile is a Rashard Lewis who plays defense. A bigger Kris Middleton? A better Kris Middleton? That’s not KG - KD but you’re getting a rock solid all-star for many years to come.
It’s hard. It’s very hard.
I think that is Smith's floor. If Smith's pans out I think he can be a 6'10 version of Jason Tatum. Which would be outstanding. I don't hate Chet but he has wayyyyy to many questions.
I'm still not getting the "wayyyy to many questions" part. If you just think that he will gain wait... there are virtually no questions... because most questions strength, health, and longevity will change as we go to thinking about a 225-230lb player. Chet has the skills and talent we want already installed and those will all get better as well.
now... if we do pick Chet... i hope you're correct... but for me there are questions with him and his ability with the ball and finishing at the rim.
I would love to see jabari attain those levels with us .... just don't want people to close the door on the notion of Chet ... because he has a really good chance in my opinion at being our player. We gotta look at all of the options because we don't want to be disappointed.
Like last year... my boy called and was pissed that we took franz... and i was still hyped because i understood the "why" prior to the draft.

Agreed but that is still a big question mark. We need a guy that can score. How many time are we going to draft a person that is great on defense, with question marks on their offense, and then just hope for the best?
totally agree. i do not see him as someone that will be a #1 or #2 option on offense. if he can stay healthy, he will be a good 2-way player, very good to great on defense and solid on offense. Rudy Gobert with offense. if he is chosen, im not going to hate it, just not sure he should be the pick. I go back and forth amongst a few players and still dont have anyone locked in for the pick.
I agree. I think Chet will be impactful, like Mobley, but not a star-particularly on offense. We really need a 22ppg guy, bonus if he stretches the floor and plays D. I feel like Jabari can be the "designated scorer" for this team. When I was in college, there was this cocky soccer player who broke school records for scoring, but there was another kid at midfield who did all the work, transitioning from defense to offense. The first kid was a deadeye shot, and was in the right spot to finish and, in true soccer fashion, took the big victory lap and the pile-on from his teammates, and got all the girls. I always felt like the midfielder was the best guy on the team, despite the scorer's headline-grabbing optics. Later, I really grasped that BOTH were elite at their jobs...That's how I see Franz & Jabari's trajectory.
We need players that bolster our efficiency at both ends. We had a guy averaging nearly 25 points per game less than two years ago and we were one of the worst teams in the league.
The impact of truly great players extends far beyond their box score stat lines.

What’s not to get? There are a ton of questions that need answering not involving weight.
How much functional weight can his frame support before it starts causing lower body health issues?
Can he play center without getting pushed out of position constantly by other bigs?
Can he be fast enough to beat any PF off the dribble and vice versa?
How well can he maintain his dribble in traffic without getting stripped because of those weak arms?
Where is he not at a physical disadvantage?
How much of his college success was due to simply being taller than his matchups that have no future in professional basketball?

Re: Who do you want us to take at #1?
Sounds like Jabari to me here based on his parameters.
Talent - the top players are all talented so mute point
Fit - Jabari, Chet to a lesser extent
Character - Jabari
Projection - Another mute point between the top players
Where leagues is going - Jeff has been mentioning interchangeable players that can play and guard multiple positions, that is Jabari.

I imagine Banchero worked out for us and we'll never know unless he says so.

Not going to lie, if we drafted Ivey, I’d be really excited.

Not trying no nitpick... but a lot of those are related to it... and most of those are all general questions that would be asked about any 18-21-year-old player coming into the league. My bad if it came off as if I was coming off as if I thought he was infallible. lol

I wouldn't be against it either at all. Loved him when we were looking at 4-5 range and that hasn't changed.

I completely agree but your statement does nothing to discourage my support of Jabari. I think his skill set on both ends will do more to bolster efficiency. His floor spreading (even if it were the only thing he brings-but it isn't) will make our ball handling creators look better. His perimeter movement and agility at his length will add a tremendous dimension to our defense (with Franz & Suggs). Whereas Chet's defense might be superior(to Jabari's-a big MIGHT, given their physiques) in a vacuum, IF Isaac can play, he's a superior version on that end. Chet will likely be an excellent help shot blocker (like Isaac) but lacks Isaac's mobility/switchability...either way, WCJ will be tasked with bodying more physical guys...in Chet's case, that's a lot of guys.
*I'd add that I'm not convinced that Jabari can't defend inside. Given that they had THE best shot blocker in college behind him, I doubt he was even asked to go down there. Just like shooting threes, perimeter defense was the best usage of Jabari for that team. He's 19, has a big, long frame...so much more to build on physically. It's not like Gonzaga doesn't have a weight room or access to protein powder - Chet will likely never be as big as Jabari is today. Chet's other assets are formidable, but that body is always going to be a limiting factor. Always.

Have a feeling Vegas is scrambling after Ivey said he hasn't had any contact with the Kings. Now I'm hearing Murray had dinner with Fox and other Kings players. Bet Murray with the 4th pick fast. Murray's +230 and Ivey's -310.

i think Murray is going to turn out better than a lot of people think. at 6'8 though, he will have to shed the "tweener" label.

Talent- Banchero
Fit- Building new offense- Banchero, enhancing existing offense- Jabari, Chet
Character- Chet (Jabari is not a leader, Paolo is not that intensive)
Projection- Banchero- best body, most skilled
Where the league is going- Big phisical wings who can do everything, shoot, dribble, pass, and most importantly can get to the rim. Definetly not Jabari and Chet.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !
