If we have a mix of the vets that were actually solid for us with some of the young guys (Jett/AB/da Silva) coming into their own, it will be a really fun year.

Very good point.
Ultimately we need remind ourselves that there weren't a heap of good FA options and once they dried up we have resigned guys on deals that are pretty moveable.

The best way to get better now is trades, and development. Just hope the FO knows how to make trades.

Yeah that would be great. Issue is they aren’t very aggressive when it comes to trades. Every deadline comes and goes with crickets.

Magic in: Karl Anthony Towns
Timberwolves in: Brandon Ingram, Den 25 1st and 26 top 5 protected 1st.
Pelicans in: Wendell Carter Jr., Cole Anthony, Anthony Black.

We condense our assets and make a big move.

Suggs,
KCP, Harris, Jett
Franz, Da Silva, Houstan
Paolo, Isaac,
Towns, Bitazde

Then we can add Moe, Joe and maybe even have enough for Tyus jones.

Thoughts?

Am I missing something with the Timberwolves and wanting to part with KAT? Nothing against you but this is about the 4th trade idea I have read on here about trying to get him.

As for your idea, I wouldn't be opposed to it as long as we got Tyus Jones before the trade.

They start two centers, they have about $95M a year pointed at the C position and I believe they are over the 2nd tax apron which is very punitive.

I'm on the Knicks board a lot and they've been down on their front office forever, until very recently.. even after acquiring Brunson. It wasn't until the last two years did they really approve of mostly everything happening. But I truly believe there is always a time to go in and push all of your chips in, and so their views really did a 180 since Brunson and the subsequent moves.

Although they are mad about their bigs situation right now

I think we're set up nicely. We still have big moves to make moving forward, so I hope the moves they do make will be made first of all, but second of all that it's the right big moves to be patient for.

The big wrinkle in everything is just the new CBA and how teams will have to approach team building. We're seeing teams like Denver, Warriors, Clippers, even the Heat kinda just screwed from their situations so it's not like easy to build super teams. Drafting strongly and building smartly has more weight to it than ever.

Yup. That is why I continue to hope :D I was hopeful that Parker getting more responsibility might add a slightly different mindset to trades, no signs yet.

The other thing to keep in mind is that as we continue to do well, our assets look better, we might get more approaches from other teams which could trigger discussion we wouldn't otherwise be in.

I think they get so caught up in team chemistry that they’re afraid to take anything away from it even if it makes them better. Don’t get me wrong I like chemistry too but I’m starting to think they value that to the point it’s making them blind to other opportunities.

Some learnings so far.

1. The Magic liked what they saw from Suggs as a point guard
2. The Magic like a defensive minded spot-up shooter at shooting guard
3. They are now in line to get 48 minutes of KCP and Harris
4. The Magic are not providing any clear paths to playing time for AB and Jett
5. The magic really believe in continuity

Our team right now is actually built for a strong PO contender and insured against the inevitable injury plague that will hit teams.

We might not have the splashy names or star power at each position but we are deeper than most.

Some of those teams in the PO are gonna fall down hard once one of their starters miss 10games. Our depth makes us weather that punch.

Exactly why the young kids didn’t get much burn last year. Cause they aren’t ready to play yet.

Minutes are earned now.

That’s all great to say but I think you need to give them at least a chance to earn those minutes. I don’t see any path for Jett to earn minutes over a healthy Harris.

Lets cross the bridg when we get there.

truly belive gary is just an inurance policy. And is signed on that contract to be a trade exception.

I think ihart signing with okc really ruined the plan.

To be honestly, I can see Paolo, Franz, and Suggs starting even when this team weren’t tanking.

I can imagine the years with Vuc, Fournier, Gordon, I would start the current players over the latter.

Yes. Cause we’re playing our best players now.

Just so happens AB and Jett were not physically built to handle the rigors of the NBA. It was evident last year, there were some instances AB still looked physically young and inexperienced.

And there were times where he looked pretty good. But you’re exactly right

Bro what are you smoking on? I am not saying we will be.

We literally are. You can pick out any players you want, and make any claims you want.

But the stats dont lie. We are the #2 defense in the nba with this same squad, no matter how much you want to single out because you wanted another player. There is no way to spin it so we arent a top 2 defense with WCJ. Stats prove it, big claims dont.

...and we got elimnated in Round 1. Hooray for being a top 2 defense?

We had a huge opportunity to get better this year. We're never going to have this amount of cap space again in the Paolo era. We squandered it royally.

You can't just move the goalpost. If you don't like the offseason moves (or lackthereof) fine, but you said the Magic won't be a defensive juggernaut, you were proven wrong, and then you went on to mention a result in the playoffs that didn't matter to what he was saying.

Which is also funny considering we also held the Cavs to the lowest points in the playoffs, which further proves his point.

What I should've said was that it's probably due to Isaac getting more playing time at Center. WCj is just a beneficiary of being there for the ride.

I hope the main rotation at C next year is between Isaac and Goga. Moe should actually be Paolo's back up.

WCj can go kick rocks somewhere.

Not a hot take. Mosely had success with this. He just has to read better when Isaac needs rest or is overpowered by heavy Centers. That's what Goga is for.
