I've watched 3 or 4 of smart's games this year -- and I don't get it.

He's big, plays really good D, good intangibles, draws fouls and we don't have any Pgs. I'm not saying we NEED to draft a Pg, but who's the best pg in the class in your opinion?

Smart is NOT a PG .....yet.
Only his first year ever trying to be the PG. Def could see him staying & developing.

Will be interesting if we get the #1 pick. Although I think timing wise Smart is the right choice since we need a future PG, not sure if we'd be better off with McLemore or Noel.

Better coaches to develop you in the NBA

Oladipo and Porter are options too

Eh...
The PG position you need major minutes to help the development. Will he get major minutes next season?
Never know with JV.

true, but is he really going to develop in that system? its bring the ball up, pass it around the perimeter, let a player go one on one, if that player cant get by his defender than pass it to the next guy so he can try to go one on one, rinse, repeat..i wouldn't wanna play on that team again, take the money

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
He played a bad bad game. But don't rule him out completely yet. It is just one game.
But we can see something from this game: his game management needs to improve not just his own game but how to run a team offense. Oklahoma State was struggled and definitely need a point who can run the show. When was time for Marcus to step up, he didn't. He is not quick with his size and he doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard 1 especially quick point guard.
But he definitely has room to grow. He won't play 1 in NBA. His position is a 2 guard but that doesn't change who he is. He is going to struggle a bit in the NBA at early stage since his jump shot is not consistent but if he manages his game better he could contribute.
This is my second game watching Marcus Smart so the sample size is extremely small. Don't pass him just yet. But I don't think I would get another chance.

A player's stock doesn't drop after just one game.
He has work to do. He has been inconsistent. But as a freshman point guard it's not atypical. He has had big games that has shown his potential. The scouts take notice of what he's capable of.

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
This is a concern though
and
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo 3m
Ok St Marcus Smart to get right Xrays on Rt wrist that was broken JR year in HS. "Feels similar but I'm sure its just a little sprain," - MS
and
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo 30s
OK St Smart didn't commit to entering NBA Draft, but hard to pass up. "He struggled today, but he's top 5. Crazy not to come out,"nba scout.

i'm even leaning mclemore over smart at this point. i'm cool with a spot-up deadeye shooter in the mold of redick/ray allen, but without redick's playmaking abilities.

Our front office will examine him more in pre-draft workouts. I trust our staff to make a good decision.

i'm not cool with that, those kind of players are a dime a dozen man. I'll be fine with anyone our front office chooses, they have proven themselves at least to me.

you make a good point, it's just that there's not much else to get excited about for this draft and at least BM does one thing really, really well...if we go with someone like porter, it would just be a logjam with Harris (who IS a SF) and Harkless.
I'd really just like to go with Noel and call it a day, but I think he'll be gone if we pick past #1

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
Oregon vs OKST was one of the easier upsets to pick. Smart still hasn't done much to make me think otherwise of he can become as a NBA PG. Seeing the same things that have been apparent all year.. Questionable decision making, off jumper, good defense but can't keep with with quick guards, and good but not great athleticism.
Right now the guys I like with a Top 3 pick:
McLemore - Good shoter, good in transition, and good athlete. taking a guy top 3 that cannot create his own shot is tough but if he turns out to be the next J-Rich that's great value in this draft
Noel - Elite athleticism, versatility, and great motor make him a near lock to be a defensive gamechanger. Offense is limited but his finishing around the rim and quickness is something to work with on that end.
Porter - Do it all wing player. Reminds me of a Tayshaun Prince kinda guy. Plays very controlled and smooth. If Rob thinks he can play next to Harkless and Harris, I'm happy with Porter.
Bennett - Probably has the most offensive upside in this draft. Can score from anywhere on the floor and his handles + explosiveness allow him to get anywhere on the floor.Dude is a tank too. I don't think height is a big concern with his 7"1 wingspan. Special, unique player.
