Thursday: At 12:01 a.m., teams may begin negotiating with other franchises' free agents. It also marks the beginning of the NBA's annual July moratorium; from this date through July 7, free agents are not allowed to sign contracts, and teams are not allowed to complete trades.

July 7: The NBA officially will announce the salary cap for the 2010-11 season and the luxury tax level for the 2010-11 season.

July 8: At 12:01 a.m., the 2010-11 salary cap and tax level go into effect and the moratorium period ends. Teams can begin signing free agents and can complete trades.

According to this article, teams are not allowed to complete trades from july 1-7. If a CP3 deal was in the works and assuming it would involve the TPE (which expires in that period, no?) and CP3 has a BYC until Jun30, doesn't that hose the plan of using the TPE due to that "blackout dates" range?

I could be off on the BYC end date, or our TPE, or maybe there's something about the trade rules during this period I don't know. but with this info, we'll know if it's not even possible with these deadlines and blackouts, or if it is going to happen, when we'd have to know by. amiriteguyz?

Well technically the TPE can't be combined with another player in the trade, so the Paul/Carter trade would have to be a completely different trade than the TPE?posey trade. So I guess it could still happen. the trades would jsut have to take place at different times.

^so if CP3's BYC expires July 1, and there is a blackout from july 1-7, the earliest a trade could happen is July 8 right? and the TPE expires July 9th. Can the vc/jameer for cp3/meka, and the separate tpe for posey happen on the same day?
