Take care Rax, I hear Seattle is a great area. As much as I prefer franchises staying put, I think that team needs a fresh city and owner and Seattle is really into getting the NBA back there.

Was thinking of this summer already also, and as a general thought to the thread, is there any young players who the Magic may try to sign on a cheap/good deal, even if they are RFA's or if the contract is only 2 years or so. Maybe the Magic can steal some kind of rising RFA this summer and it's part of their big plans.

Hate to be the sour grape in the bunch, but IMO if you can jump ship from a team after such an extended period of fandom, only because you have moved interstate, you weren't really much of a fan to begin with. I'm sure everyone here will argue with me as Raj obviously built more friendships here than myself, and he did seem like a pretty dedicated fan, but c'mon! I could never just switch alliances like that. Shows a character flaw IMO. Why can't you just go to Seattle and proudly rep the Magic and go to the games when they come to town? Flame away people, but this is only my opinion.

Like he said, he has his reasons. I find it odd but that's how he approaches it, good for him.

We always complained about northerners moving down here and still cheer for their old team -- so in a way, don't we want more people like DJ?

Thanks everyone for the kind words/posts. I'm going to miss you guys. I'm feeling nostalgic (thinking of all the great talks and posts with you guys) being back on the Magic forum after a couple months away. :)

The Real Dalic wrote:Raj left me off the list :-? at least I think so it's hard to read all of the names haha. Anyway enjoy the northwest and the Sonics man! We're losing one of the best posters.

HAHA! Actually I had the list of names typed up in a notepad, and when I went to copy/paste the names into my posts for this thread, I forgot to highlight/select your name (I went too fast). And you were the first name I typed on the list btw. My bad lol. Anyway thanks man. I'll talk to you on Xbox Live soon, I just got a new mic.

No sour grapes :) It's all good man. It was a tough decision, but this is my life, my situation, and my environment. I can't explain my frame of reference and what goes on in my everyday life to you all on the internet. You'd understand if you were living my life and what I'm going through with these changes. Every choices we make in life will be variable (same or different). That's why we're all unique as individuals. We're all different man. I don't expect everyone to agree with my decision, and that's fine. And yes, I was a dedicated fan, there's no questioning that. I was born and raised in Central Florida. I went to countless games. I had tons of caps and jerseys. I stayed up on this forum almost every night. I watched every game, even the losing seasons and blowouts. I checked every trade, draft, and rumor each off-season, and more. But now I live an area where I want to feel like I'm apart of the community and city. I've made some really great new friends here, all of whom are huge sports fans. All of them are excited about the potential for the Sonics to come back, but are also excited about the upcoming Sounders and Mariners season. I'm excited about it too. It's okay if you disagree with my choice. It was great talking and discussing basketball with you on this forum. My favorite moment was the unforgettable 100 page Chris Paul thread (the first one!). That was an epic night. I had an exam at 8am that morning, and I stayed up all night posting with you guys. Btw I'll say this again, if the Kings don't relocate to Seattle, I'll just be a NBA fan with no allegiance. I'm a man of my word. When I make a choice/decision I don't back peddle or jump back. I've never jumped sides in my whole life until now, and I have my reasons obviously. But I think after 20 years of fandom (with all the teams I had supported), my track record as a fan, and with this big change in my life/lifestyle... I had the right to make this decision and live with it. I hope you understand. If you don't, it's okay. It's just different perspectives. Just be thankful I'm not a bandwagoner like most people lol. It's not like I'm rooting for Miami or some big market team (Celtics, Lakers, etc... you know the people I'm talking about) . I'm sticking with this decision all the way to the grave man. I plan on staying/living here (Pacific NW) forever.

Well, he did move to a different state out west... makes it harder to actively follow games, you can't go to any games in person outside of 1 each season (even then you'd be surrounded by Sonics fans), and many of his new friends are going to be sonics fans (if the team moves). In a way, it would be torture to move to a new city and not adopt the local team... not only will you never be able to fully enjoy your old team like you did when you lived in that city, but you'll also miss out on a lot of great experiences in your new city. Like he said, he's planning to live there permanently. Kind of quick to completely drop a team after all these years, but to be honest it would only be a matter of time before he started following his local team more than his old team anyway.... at least if he wants to maximize life there.

If I moved to another state, I'd like to think I'd still follow the Magic for the rest of my life, but I'm pretty sure I'd start following the local team as well... and after investing a few years in them i'd probably be a huge fan.

If the Kings don't relocate, you should still adopt some nearby team... or even come back to the Magic. Just because you decided to leave doesn't mean you're not allowed back. I'm a fan of the NBA, but being a fan with no allegiance just seems boring. Gotta have at least one team you could get behind. Have people in Seattle adopted the Thunder or are they bitter about the whole move?

Thanks OrlandO. You pretty much described a part of my situation perfectly. As for dropping the teams quickly, I actually found out back in October that I was potentially moving (my interview went well), so I was having a hard time debating in my brain what should I do if I was to get the job. Once I found out I was getting the job around the holiday break, then I had the arduous task of planning the move, finding a place to stay, and dealing with the hectic schedule. All the while I kept thinking to myself, as a sports fan, should I continue on rooting for my Florida-based teams, or should I get integrated with my new city, lifestyle, and social scene. So it was actually a LONG process for my decision. I just didn't say anything on this forum earlier, and I apologize for that. I had a lot going on. That was why in the end of the Spec thread (not the previous part, the but one before that) I told MTB and arsenal the Spec Thread is yours to keep updating. I was trying to stay low, but I kept reading posts like "Hey DJ, can I make the next Spec thread?" and my heart sank because you guys didn't know. I haven't been POSTING on the Magic forum since the beginning of this year. The only people that knew I moved at the beginning of this year was my cousin (VGOSWAMI), MagicTownBaller, and The Real Dalic. And I wanted to wait until April (NBA votes for relocation of the Kings) to tell you guys, but the cat was out of the bag because you guys saw my new avatar, sig, and location lol (btw a nice guy on the Sonics forum made my sig, I wanted it simple as you can tell, nothing fancy). But again I digress, thank you for understanding and supporting my decision.

I asked that question to one of my co-workers (he was a Sonics fan since the early 80s), and he absolutely despises the Thunder and refuses to watch NBA games, but he still says he wants Kevin Durant back if they ever got another NBA franchise in Seattle again lol. I was surprised that a lot of folks weren't huge hockey fans (I figured it's cold up here, why wouldn't they like the NHL? The NHL following has been mild to say the least, but then again I've always lived in a warm state my whole life, so what do I know). That's been another difficult situation. I used to watch a ton of Florida Panthers games and Seattle doesn't have a NHL team. So I've been watching the NHL season as an observer with no fandom. I heard rumblings that the Phoenix Coyotes might relocate to Seattle, but I doubt that will happen.

As for the situation with the Kings, if they don't relocate to Seattle, I honestly can't come back as a fan. Call it a stubborn pride thing with me, but thank you. :) I know my cousin keeps pressing me with the "open door" invitation to return lol, but I appreciate it. And I know it's because we had a lot of great memories together watching and discussing Magic games (our favorite one being the Magic/Cavs Christmas game 10 years ago... T-Mac vs Lebron). But in my perspective, it goes against everything I stand for, I just can't go back (I wouldn't make a very good politician. I'm glad I'm not in politics lol). I made my decision and I have to stick with it passionately (especially if it's a decision regarding change); and that's always kind of been my doctrine or way of life with a lot of things.

And I can't be a Portland Trailblazers fan, because THAT'S A BIG NO NO in Seattle lol, though no one has given me any grief about being an Oregon Ducks fan, but then again no one that I have met yet in Seattle knows I am HAHA shhh  (hey, I have to make it interesting). I've met one former Sonics fan who converted to a Blazers fan after the team moved to OKC, but he said he would return back as a Sonics fan if they got a NBA team back. Speaking of the whole Portland/Seattle dynamic, I can't wait until the Sounders/Timbers MLS game. I've seen them on TV a lot, and those crowds for that rivalry are insane. I'm planning on going to their first meeting. Very excited.

I'm born and raised in the Northwest, now I live on the peninsula in Long Beach in Washington but nonetheless still Sonic territory. I grew up a huge fan of the Sonics, Magic were my second favorite cause I loved Penny. Ever since Seattle got their team stolen (yeah still bitter) I became a Magic fan because I am a fan of the NBA and basketball in general. Now that they are possibly getting a team back, I cant see myself taking a step back from this Magic franchise but will be supporting the Sonics whenever they aren't playing the Magic!

There is a guy that has logo's of all the Northwest teams but I am wondering why he has an Oregon logo.. really? Everything Seattle but Oregon? Stay out of Seattle dude that's Husky territory!

Oh yeah, I'm not wearing any Oregon caps out in public here buddy, trust me (and I don't think I even have or want any caps). I'm not that big of a college sports fan, I'm moderate. Actually I've seen quite a few folks reppin' Ducks gears here (caps here and there), so it's not too bad, and Gonzaga gear as well. Not as bad of a reaction as say someone wearing FSU gear in Gainesville imo (and I lived in Gainesville for quite a bit).

I was kind of in the same situation growing up in Florida. I would say that the Sonics were my "2nd favorite" team to watch growing up in the 90s and early/mid 2000s... Kemp/Payton, Allen/Lewis. I'm glad you found a team (Magic) after the Sonics moved. :) I feel bad when stuff like that happens. I honestly don't want the citizens of Sacramento to lose the Kings. I'd rather Seattle get an expansion tbh.

Btw I know you're several hours away (from Spokane), but does anyone attend Spokane Shock arena football games? How is the attendance and atmosphere? I used to attend a lot of Predators games and it was fun, but the only arena football league team near me now is the Spokane Shock, but I'm not sure if people really go to those games or get behind it. I know Orlando fans do for AFL games. Just curious. Thanks.

Alright guys, I'm going to head out now. I'll drop in every once and awhile for some good chatter. Btw the Tobias Harris guy is a talented young prospect. Great trade imo! If Harkless continues to improve and you guys get a really good lottery prospect in the draft, the Magic will have a solid youth core to build around. I think by the 2015-16 season you guys will be back as potential contenders if all things go according to plan. Talk to you all later. Thanks again for the kind words and discussions.

Alright Raj, as you said it's your decision and I'll respect that you believe it's the right one for you at this time. I understand the reason behind your choice, it's just that I would definitely make a different choice if I were in the same situation. Although my perspective may be totally different being an Australian Magic fan that has never even been to America let alone Orlando!

Anyway man, hopefully you'll end up feeling dirty supporting any other team than the Magic and you'll come back

Btw (speaking of Australia), I'm still a Gold Coast Suns fan  ... and if that is not true support, I don't know what is... so think about that!

Can't we just "roll the dice" keep you until the offseason and maybe if the sonics don't get a team you'll stay here? Maybe you can opt in for another year?

My brother is a seattle fan so I'm kinda fond of those teams, have fun with the seahawks, Go to some of their games, I'd imagine it'd be crazy
