First-round picks aren't created equally. The Toronto posters were arguing that a young player and a pick was too much for Ibaka, even though their pick is slotted in around 25. Every year there are reports that a couple teams are willing to sell their late first-round picks for cash because they don't want to give a guaranteed contract to a player that doesn't really excite them.
Simply because we are resigned to Ibaka's inevitable departure doesn't mean we should give him away. If a team doesn't come up with something better than a late first-round pick, then I wouldn't do them the favor of accepting the offer. A lot of team's with post-season aspirations this year are desperate for some help. Washington is a good team with an atrocious bench, for example. How many more postseasons are in Kyle Lowry's competitive window? Houston and Boston have to believe they are in the championship conversation and both teams have frontcourt needs. If someone doesn't give up something you like, then you eat the contract.
