With Paolo, Suggs and Franz locked up for years, this team will have many chances to contend especially as these young guys continue to get better.

Magic players around UFA
OMG shut it down this is epic
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Lakers are contending for like 40 years out of 45 and just made sure to do that again the next 10 years. Spurs don´t care about "timeline" or organic growth or "our franchise player is still young, we can wait some years before we get serious with winning, let this guys be friends until then", and they obviously know how to built a winning team, given how good they´ve been the last 25 years despite not being LA, Boston, NYC or Miami.
Boston traded again and agan (even their "heart and hustle defensive stopper") to improve their roster to be finally functional and win a title. Cleveland made massive leap, not by drafting and doing nothing, but by trading for offensive lead guard (who our FO wouldnt want because he is not good on defense). Name me ONE contender of last 10 years who didnt get at least one major core player via FA or trade!

Yuo and this is why I personally am giving this FO this year and nothing else beyond. They need to get serious. No more organic talk. We’ve done that. We got Suggs, Franz and soon to be Paolo tied up. Time to make the make necessary moves. Our offense has been dragging ass for too long. Get serious or get out and get someone in who is.

Assuming they are never going to add to year 3 and year 4 Paolo/Franz at any point is mind blowing to me.
Everyone would be open to getting a star like Mitchell at the right price. That fit probably isn't available. They weren't beating the Cavs offer. Fox can't shoot/didn't want to be here.
How many teams won a title with their best players at ages 23 and 22? How many stars even won that young period? Magic Johnson? Tim Duncan? D Wade? I don't think any of our guys are that good. And all of those guys played with HOF big men. Organic growth is and was fine. Hitting a wall now and probably need an infusion of talent. I think they will do something.
Also 2014 Spurs, 2015 Warriors and 2021 Warriors were all fairly organic rosters. Other than that you typically need an MVP level player to win anyway, where are we getting that if not organically lol. Our guys aren't there yet.

True but we’re setting ourselves back by not putting skill sets around Paolo and Franz. You can’t just expect these guys to make shots for everyone else.

I agree and I think they are also realizing that and going to make some moves. Now if they go into next season with this slop I will be right there with the pitchforks, but I don't think they will.

With every passing year it gets tougher and tougher financially to make getting another star work. Not to mention all the trade pieces are going to come off their rookie contract and get paid somewhere. The time is always now on something like this. Not later.
Also, iron sharpens iron and waiting to put them around other great players causes their growth to plateau.

"Timeline" is a nonsense notion. The goal of management is i) collect some players and ii) constantly get better from there.
Step i) can be via the draft (and tanking is a bad idea), trades (e.g. the Magic got F-Wagner from a bonehead trade from the Bulls - but the magic bust on two other simultaneous trades), and FAs (i.e. how the Lakers / Celts stay relevant).
Teams that "get better" every year are more likely to win titles. And San Antonio has the leagues best management at exactly this.
Has WeHamm/WePark "gotten better" each year. Kind of, sort of, but it could have been better. Meh.

No it isn't.
Collecting star players can be done at any time. If you can get one and keep them, you do it.
But you don't trade picks for rentals to win now in Paolo's 3rd year the same way you would for prime Lebron. That is where a timeline matters.

"Collecting players" is not getting better. That's asset management: only.

Let's not be naive, in a moment Lebron is gone, or even sooner, Lakers will have another superstar and contender ready.
They had jack *** and stole Shaq, than they had jack s*** and stole Pau Gasol in laughable trade, once Kobe retired they had jack s*** and won title in 2020 after Lebron went there and fake player's agency arranged AD trade.
From 2000 -2024 Lakers won 6 titles and went to 2 finals.
Now they have at worst - 3rd best player in the world. Who is 25 years old.
Every person i saw today, that follows basketball said same thing to me: "what a f***"

A team that drafted Franz and Paolo and developed them into stars that will make ~50% of the cap. Add Suggs and you are around 70%. That’s an average allocation for a team’s top 3.

I love Paolo and Franz, but we need to get serious about the level of player these guys are. Paolo is not a Giannis/KD level of player, so he is going to need a second legit star paired with him. Wagner and Suggs are great, but they are not that guy. We need a 1A or at worst a 2nd best player.
There is a zero percent chance Orlando will ever be a true contender with Paolo/Franz/Suggs as their three best players. If your plan is to put role players around those guys, then that is a plan that, like this season, will be a failure. That was last years plan with KCP and it has moved the meter exactly zero.

You've blown up the core before it's even blossomed. That's a nonstarter.Cammo101 wrote:eyriq wrote:A team that drafted Franz and Paolo and developed them into stars that will make ~50% of the cap. Add Suggs and you are around 70%. That’s an average allocation for a team’s top 3.
