Whatever. I'd still wanna consider it. Doesn't always have to be about stats. Hell, if Penny would have played more for us, I'd retire his jersey too... or we could call it the T-Mac/Doug Christie/Von Wafer/Gilbert Arenas/Whoever the hell else wore Number 1 collective retire off.

Having one number retired, or honored, is not gonna kill anyone. IMO.

And it prevents scrubs like Duhon from wearing it.

Dwight's certainly got the free throw accuracy to be mentioned in the same breath as Nick.

I think he's done enough for this organization as a player, and now as an ambassador, to warrant the honor. And who better to be our first?

I'm going to the Boston game too!

I still have hope that he will stay and we should have closure on his status in almost exactly two months.

What's it matter if he breaks the record and leaves? Nick Anderson set the record and he was traded away, why shouldn't it go both ways?

Dwight's already achieved so much with this franchise that a scoring record seems only fitting, IMO.

Nick Anderson didnt throw the entire franchise under a bus when he was under contract still

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Dwight's giving the franchise a heads up that he wants to leave, so they can trade him and get something in return.

had he held off and not said anything and left with no return like Bosh and Bron then you'd be complaining he didn't give us any indication so we could get something in return.

I'm not sure I care all that much, but I can see how this would not be preferred from a fan's perspective. Nick did not want to get traded at all and was all about Orlando Magic, whereas Dwight is no longer similar in that regard. I mean it absolutely killed Nick when that relationship ended.

i can understand why it wouldn't be preferred, but i think it's very petty. it's just a massive double standard regarding whether a player wants to go somewhere else, or the team wants to send a player somewhere else, regardless of that player's previous accomplishments with the team.

Been following this since late last regular season. Dwight really should've gotten the record at home v. the Lakers. On the road won't be as cool.

Howard owns about 90% of the most important records in Magic history. This is the pinnacle of a hell of a career so far. Whether he bolts or not, he's earned those records.
