Hennigan might be using the possibility of Howard starting the season with the team as leverage to either get Howard to expand his list of preferred trade destinations or to get other teams to improve their offers.
From Dwight to Jacque Vaughan, we as fans are kind of getting a little agitated with how slow the process has taken. Though, I can say I'm beginning to become HUGE fan of Hennigan. From the way he handles things, keeps everything under the vest, to how calm and collected he is. Just letting the process dictate itself, rather than making rash decisions based on the pressure from the media, Dwight, Fegan, and even the fans.
I have faith the RIGHT DEAL will come along as long as he continues this strategy. I mean, it was rumored Jim Buss gave Hennigan a tongue lashing because Hennigan changed his stance on what he wanted MOST in return for Dwight. Imo, he's already making a name for himself, other GM's KNOW they can't "dupe" him, the Magic Organization like they have in the past (i.e Weisbrod/Otis).

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLIII Off-Season Editio
i find it a struggle to believe that the relationship between Dwight and the Magic can be salvaged, but i can only dream that with the recent talk of a Harden extension in Oklahoma not being a certainty, that Hennigan has a secret plan to target him as a max FA next summer to partner next to Dwight. heck, even if Dwight bails, i'd love Harden as a cornerstone to starting the franchise again.
all we'd have to do is cut Turk so he's only on the $6M that's guaranteed, find a taker for JRich for an expiring this season, and waive JJ, and we'll have enough to offer a max deal next year.
Dwight/O'Quinn
BBD/Nicholson
[insert rookie/FA]
Harden/Liggins
Jameer
that puts us right back on track to challenge Miami, IMO.

Isnt harden a restricted free agent? Can't OKC match anything we can offer, which I would assume they would do for a potential all star like harden?

^ When I saw the wiretap regarding Harden and the Suns, THIS EXACT thought came to mind.
There's NO WAY OKC throws the max at Harden. Knowing Presti, he's like 10 steps ahead of everyone and i'm sure he'll entertain offers rather than letting him walk. I too, would LOVE Harden to be the "face" of this franchise, the focal point. I'm sure Henny knows this, though we as fans can just speculate until that time comes.

I think Presti gives that team one more year whilst everyone is on rookie deals before deciding whether or not Harden is a mandatory piece to their puzzle. If they don't think he is then they might consider s&t deals next summer as an alternative to matching offers.

W/ Westbrook (nearly @ max) and Durant (@ max), OKC still needs $ for role players, draft picks. The new CBA makes it very difficult for teams to operate w/ 3 max players. I dunno if owner Clay Bennett wants to take such a hit (luxury tax-wise). Harden will easily command $11M+ annually so that's way too rich for Thunder's blood imo.

Ever since we hired Henny, I've hoped that he had a strong attachment to some of his OKC boys, the way Otis did with GSW. Only difference is that the OKC guys are still young and full of promise.
It almost seems to line up too perfectly that we'd bring Henny in just in time to prepare for a summer when Harden will become a FA and Oklahoma are an uncertainty to match.

Exactly. I'm sure Presti would take Henny's call before any other GM, just based on their history of working together. "An eye for eye" type of thing. As you stated, I'd love for OKC to be the team we call/make inquiries to whenever we 1st look to explore a trade. (in the way Otis did business with the Warriors)

Harden to me is Joe Johnson again. a player that will get max money, but isnt the type of player to be a #1 option.
and sorry, but that team above does not challenge Miami.

Maybe not. Though, THAT team looks a whole helluva lot better than 90% of all the teams in the NBA. Just because we may not look better on paper than Miami doesn't mean we shouldn't make a MAX offer/investment to Harden. That logic is dumb.

lol Michael Pietrus has a brother named Florent? He's playing on the France national team and looks just like his bro, at least from afar on the court.

u ve never heard of him before???
I vaguely remember him from past FIBA play. I think maybe I even originally learned about him a couple years ago on this forum, can't recall for sure (he's forgettable), so it was a surprise to see again.
