TODAY: Point guard.

Jameer Nelson vs. Victor Oladipo.

Ever since the Magic shipped out Steve Francis in 2006 – former GM Otis Smith hoodwinking the New York Knicks – Nelson has not been challenged as the starter. The club obviously wants that to change at some juncture.

This is an interesting debate because, whereas Nelson is likely to start on opening night, he might not log 40 starter games, and is a candidate to be traded. I thus phrase the poll question not as what is likely, but rather what do you, as a fan, want Orlando to do.

..

I'm not convinced Jameer is a real trade candidate - too popular with ownership, fans, and frankly a real leader both on and off the court. But I desperately hope we transform him into a twenty minute sixth man providing energy and scoring off the bench. He's way too fragile lately to log starter minutes consistently, but leading the way off the bench would be an ideal use of his skills.
