Re: Marc Stein - Doc Rivers or Pat Garrity to Replace Hennigan?
Magic love to hire guys they know. That's no inside info or surprise.
If Doc came here to be the coach, I'd be down with that. I love that guy. Nicest guy to run into around town and should have never been fired from here in the first place. GM? Not so sure, but I will say this - he has been a part of a lot of great teams the past 10 years. The Clippers have only gotten better, and if it was not for a bunch of injury, they would probably be talked about a lot more as contenders like they were when the season started.
Garrity could be a great GM. No one knows. He currently runs the analytics department and works under SVG. So you can't pin SVG's moves on him completely.
A complete overhaul with Doc as coach and Garrity as Asst. GM. I could see that happening. I believe the team would get a lot better too. But whatever we do, we need to make the right choice. Way too many coaching changes for this team.

Isn't Doc Rivers the reason that we picked Sasser and Reece Gains. Isn't he also the genius that chose to keep Steven Hunter over Brandon Hayward...
Yeah no thanks.

Re: Marc Stein - Doc Rivers or Pat Garrity to Replace Hennigan?
We should make Garrity the player/coach/GM so that he can draft Lauri Markannen, Tyler London, TJ Leaf and Alec Peters. Our new starting lineup would be:
Markannen
Peters
London
Leaf
Garrity
The floor spacing would be insane and we would be instant contenders every year. Cleveland can't guard that. The Spurs can't guard that. The Warriors can't guard that. Garrity would destroy modern defenses with his smarts and immense size at the point guard. He has LeBron's size, Larry Bird's athleticism and a better BBIQ that Westbrook. Those are three hall of fame players all packaged in one player.

All you guys who want Martins out of basketball decisions - not sure why you would be against Doc. I don't think there are many candidates for this job who could come in and effectively end Martins reign as puppetmaster here.

He looks to be a numbers guy:After his playing career was over, Garrity completed his MBA at Duke and worked for a hedge fund in Connecticut. Garrity returned to basketball in 2014 when Van Gundy was hired by the Pistons. The Pistons' analytics staff reports to Garrity and he also helps manage Detroit's cap.
My view is a) GM Hennigan will be fired and then b) the Magic will retain Coach Vogel as he is a top coach in the NBA. So a new GM like Garrity makes a great deal of sense.
(I also do not like Rivers with the Magic but for a differing reason; I think the coaching and GM jobs need to be separated and two persons are needed).
..
Generally speaking, I don't believe that Garrity's MBA or hedge fund experience lends anything substantial to the GM position.
Those credentials tell me he's educated and generally understands business and can apply statistical analysis to certain situations, but holding a position within a team that has gotten progressively worse each year implies to me that he's not learning what he needs to learn as a GM.
A GM must be able to negotiate favorable contracts, yes, but the salary bracket that players are in is dictated based on Union reports and comparative salaries of players with similar statistical production/age/injury history.
The most important aspects after that are evaluating talent and then maybe ability to pull off favorable trades. It is my view that everything people here dislike about Hennigan would be replicated with yet another "wet behind the ears" GM with no track record.
Sure, replace Hennigan at this point, but don't do it for the sake of change and saving face.

Let's go to any board and see how fans feel pretty much about any available GM or coach. That's a pointless comment.
I mean, people here whine and complain every day about how our team needs to be blown up, we need new leadership, new FO..etc.
Who exactly are these special flowers you expect to come in and do this? Honestly, I'd love to know. Any available candidate you pick we can find message board fans who have bashed them.

I'm okay with keeping Hennigan if these are my options.

LOL..it's funny to read that and see your bolded sig right below.
But yeah, it's still real early in the process. I am quite sure many other names will pop up. But let's not forget, fans can't really predict how well a regime will be. 95% wanted Vogel here. He is already hated and bashed every game.
Look at Gentry. That was a coach that tons of people wanted the Magic to hire. He will most likely be available this summer. Any takers now?

-Doc has been a terrible GM(austin would be in orlando in a hearthbit,if he would get the job and the power,i bet)
-Garrity has worked in a front office just since 2014 with SVG,surely not an impressive curricula
And both still way better than another year with hennigan(and her board groupies)

I think I need to change my sig to Frank Vogel, Alex Martins, or Jeff Turner.
I actually dont fault Hennigan as much as others, think we've had really bad luck with draft positioning. But he really did set the rebuild back a few years with the Oladipo and Tobias trades. And thought it was incredibly frustrating that he wouldn't do a Fournier/Vuc trade for Cousins, which was the tipping point for me to get the sig.

Can't wait till this happens.
I'll make GortatExpress and NEM look like Rob supporters. Would be such an idiotic move.

Yep, I hear you. But a few things - It was not just Fournier/Vuc. It was them plus picks. We would have lost our first round pick this year and had nothing to build around him. It would have been a disaster honestly. I can't imagine Cousins wanting to be here anyway. The Pelicans still look awful with him there and the Kings actually have some young guys who are playing well in his absence. Plus the Kings have two top 10 picks now.
With Tobias and Victor, we were still bad. I think we may have won 38 games this year, and that is being optimistic. I don't think those two guys give us more than 5-6 more wins then we have now. So essentially we would still suck, just a little less, which would mean a mediocre draft pick.
I have no problem with moving assets until we get a star in the draft. It sucks, but it is the only way to do it now. I blame the NBA for this more than any GM.

Don't we have an entire thread about how Dennis Scott would be a bad idea?

That thread was based on an interview with 3D who has zero experience in an NBA front office, while Garrity has been working in one for 3 years under SVG.
This thread is based on a petty reliable source making it known that the Magic are looking for new leadership. I am sure there will be more names to come.

That's a good one. Maybe Hennigan should get fired so that we can continue the carousel of adoring the new guy for two weeks and then incessantly complaining and threatening to jump ship without any fair context given to a situation for the remainder of the tenure.
Posts like this one (passively self congratulatory while taking cheap shots at people) are what remind me how obsessed with instant gratification people are; throw in "comfortable with immediate low level analysis" as well.
