I guarantee the front office/team does not want to go backwards giving the keys to a rookie backcourt guy who will be even more ineffective or moving anybody we considered core last year at this moment.. unless it's a package for a big named non-rookie or perhaps taking a swing up with MAYBE Cole if they don't think they can re-sign him. If they take a backcourt guy, I think it's because there's moves in the future, but not at this moment.

To be fair, I've always believed Anthony was likely to be dealt given he is extension eligible soon. If the Magic do draft Black, I wonder if the Magic intend to package Anthony or Suggs and the #11 to add some depth elsewhere.

Also, the amount of Black traction that came out today was a little odd. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all smoke like last year and Jabari Smith.
What was the Anthony Black quote please, can't find it anywhere?

The funny thing from the like 50+ active posters we have I feel like everybody has a different version of getting better with picks or trades and it's all different..

Conclusion.. nobody knows what will make us better

I'm gonna appreciate the journey and support the rook(s) regardless

Cole and Fultz are contract extention eligible, we have no idea how those talks are going now for FO. I would hate any Suggs trade now, no point to sell low on him now, he has great potential and still on rookey contract.
I wonder what we do if Whitemore indeed slides and is available at 6.

Idk about "active" but definitely around that or more total. We're a pretty decent sized board, moreso when we're winning.

I feel like we need to create a traditional ‘draft day meal’ to go with it. What’s the thanksgiving Turkey/Christmas Ham equivalent for the NBA draft?
Haha that's an awesome idea! It is a wonderful day.

I feel like this will be a huge tell about the direction WeHam wants to go with this team.

Defs reliable. What about baby back ribs? There’s almost a rib per lottery pick, which feels kinda fitting.

Just anticipate that the real theatre will be coming from other teams and enjoy the show. We have our narrative: we’ve got former number 1 pick proving he can turn this franchise around - and Paolo Banchero is pretty good too.

We’ll make our moves but WeHam are a low interference management. Even if they drafted Black they’d keep Cole and let Mosley sort it out.

I just get this feeling we will move 11 for future assets and we will all be disappointed lol
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

I would love to see them waive fultz and sign a pg. fultz is so injury prone and provides no spacing for Banchero. My ideal scenario would be for them to move up and grab Scoot, but I don’t think any of those teams would be interested in the package we could pull together.

Draft exercise: What player do you think a team in the 10-14 range would "reach" on because they like them and it's their guy (i.e. Cam Johnson to the Suns, which turned out to be a correct pick) that nobody has really mocked?

I don't know about in this draft, the guys who are movers kind of already moved up a lot in mocks (Bufkin/JHS) - I think Maxwell Lewis has the potential with three level scoring potential. Clowney seems like the type someone can "reach" on too. Whitehead is interesting because of his pre-injury status as a top 5 guy that was clearly injured and revamped himself to be a great shooter but there could be allure if the rest of his game stabilizes. Nick Smith used to be mocked high and has fallen, but I think people may think his college stuff was flukey.

An absolute way out of left field would be Whitehead at 11. Maybe even Podz

Anthony Black would feel like a gut punch, taller Elfrid Payton.

I’ll probably be wrong, but to me it doesn’t seem like there is a guy outside of Grady Dick, that could really help us outside of the top 4. So I think we need to move up or try and grab a vet with the picks.

Yeah I was thinking Podz as well, high IQ guys who can shoot kind of fit what I'm thinking. Maybe Jett Howard if he counts? That's for teams in the 10-13 range in general, not the Magic specifically.

On another note, what's a pet peeve of mine and what you know you'll hear before the night is over is: "We/the Magic are a better basketball team than we were yesterday" or something to that extent. It always pisses me off. Yeah you started the day of with high draft pick(s), which you've now turned into actual players for your roster. If you end up with the 15th best player in the draft with #6 and the 25th best player with #11, your night was terrible, because it's a competitive league. But hey, we "got better" because it's got some extra young players on it. Especially with these assets, we should get more out of the draft long-term than at least 24 other teams.

My personal opinion is that we can’t waste our years getting younger with Banchero. We need to finally be in a win now mood. Rookies aren’t going to put us in contention. We need to trade our picks and a few young players for a stud, then hit FA hard.

Return to Orlando Magic
