How does the front office get the agents to agree to such low deals?

I went from not wanting to draft him to convincing myself he can be good to not liking him to finally appreciating what he can bring to the team.
This deal is very good and its in line with other contracts Weltman gave so far. Its still a possibility he gets traded but i think he really accepted his role on the team. Our backcourt vision is getting clearer. I dont agree we will resign Fultz.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Love the deal. I thought he was gonna get more. We need his offense for sure and from what we can see, he's a great locker room leader and teammate.

Seems like we are all in agreement this is an awesome deal for a great locker room guy and quality potential 6th man candidate.

Now the real question...how do you all think this impacts the rest of the plan with our guards? The team has to make decisions on these guys and this is the first real clue we've gotten. Curious to hear all of your thoughts.

It is a great deal, but it also really opens things up for trading him as well. I know we're all thrilled at the deal, but it makes him very appealing for a mid season trade for a contender looking for a spark and some scoring off the bench.

I could see the Magic saying this is a great way to move him, I could also see them saying this makes other players more expendable and easier to move because we have Cole locked up for several years on a good deal.

He loves being here and really embraces Orlando.

You can tell he's a connector in the locker room.

And of course, he is one of the few who can score on a team not known for it.

He likely would've cost more as a RFA next year.

BOOM. Avdija gets 55 mill, Green gets 41 and Nesmith gets 33. Cole has shown he could be more valuable than any of those. What a great deal and easily tradeable if we go after a star. Looking at the WCJ, Cole and even back to the last Vooch deal, I gotta believe we have a culture players are wanting to stick around for if we're getting such reasonable contracts. We still got a ways to go, but we're doing things right.

I'm a big fan of this deal. He seems to be a fan favorite. Wants to be in orlando and was really solid of the bench for us last year. If he can be our spark plug lou Williams player for years to come I would be thrilled with that. Another solid signing from weltman.

Amazing deal and yes, he is worth every penny even if he only avg 20 minutes per game.

I am surprised. So very surprised by this move. How good it is too.

This means the Black experiment is in full swing though. Black wants backup / starting minutes, he is going to have to push Cole / Fultz out.

Not happening in his rookie season with both guys wanting deals or unless someone gets injured.

Ah yes, nobody can read my mind.

Anthony Black has 3 years to try and outplay Cole / whomever we start at PG, and Cole is also signed for an amazing deal.

This is also my thinking. But maybe not as quick as we think. I wouldn't be surprised if they resigned fultz for like a 2 year deal and brought black along slowly to see if they really have something in him to take over the reigns.

I'm thinking cole 6th man back up pg, fultz for 2/3 more years. Then black takes over in his 3rd/ 4th year as the full time pg and fultz is shipped out or resgins somewhere else.

I think black has a way longer way to go before he is close to starting at pg.

I made a comment somewhere earlier whole Cole in theory fits our offense better although not necessarily our defense. Again though, I am happy for this and Cole should be too.

Kinda shocked how many people say this makes him easy to move. Sure, a good value always does I guess. But he is IMHO more in line with his value and his respective upside. Now he just doesn't have to worry about clamoring.

Fultz is my fav not magic but nba player tout court ever,i will probably cry like a baby when he will be gone.

that said rationally, there is a limit also to immobilism and resign him next june would be a travesty.

i mean, they could not get that far, would be ridiculous, they resigned cole ,they drafted black at #6,they will have Suggs, would be too much even for them.

Great value deal! Having a starter and 6th man locked in for $13M each is fantastic value. Cole has already won me over with his growth and play but now he takes such a sweet deal for the team? Fantastic stuff.

Rookie-scale extensions don’t have a time-based restriction at all. Players drafted in the first round and extended before the fourth year of their contracts can be immediately traded.

While rookie-scale extensions don’t include a trade restriction, they come with a poison pill. If an extended player were to be traded, the extending team would be credited with sending out the current salary for current season, but an incoming team would need to account for his average salary over the life of the entire contract .

That imbalance between incoming and outgoing salary can make a two-team trade difficult but is not necessarily prohibitive.

So, those who think this makes Cole tradeable, not this year. In fact this almost guarantees he is here for the full season now. We would have to send Cole at his Rookie salary amount ($3.6M per), but the other team would have to send back someone at a much higher salary in return ($13M per). For this reason, poison pill contracts are rarely moved.

Also, to those wondering why Cole took this deal, it is for around the projected mid level exception, and there are not many teams next year with space so his options as a Restricted FA at higher amounts were very limited.
