Re: Magic reportedly eyeing Deaaron Fox trade, preparing for instant title contention
I may have been the first on the forum to mention at Fox a few weeks ago but I am cautious about how much money he wants and his 3 pt shooting percentage. That said, the FO has to look into it if he's available. A trade around AB, salary fillers (like Cole and Harris), plus multiple picks works financially. Fox 'only' makes $35 mil this season though (and $37 mil next season). I don't think we would trade for him if he's looking for a full max extension though.

Just my opinion, but I don’t think this aligns at all with what the Magic front office are trying to do. Their objective, first and foremost, is to turn Orlando into a destination players are clamoring to play at. You do that with consistent winning over a long period of time, and with our young stars, depth and incredible flexibility the road is paved for many years of winning. As a fan, I’m on board with turning the Magic into an organization that’s seen as smart, has a good culture and drafts/develops well. Sort of like the Baltimore Ravens of basketball (sorry, shameless plug for how my favorite football team is run). The only way at this point they jeopardize what they’ve built is an all-in trade that potentially jeopardizes the future cap, the locker room camaraderie, and annoys Paolo before he signs long term. With that last point I seriously doubt they do anything big this season, and I’ll just add to boot Paolo personally loves AB.
It’ll probably be more fun to see how they use this draft capital they have these next years. I’d consolidate the picks and move up in the draft or trade for future first rounders with poorly run organizations.

You literally completely contradicted yourself.
Thats the first thing the article says, that Fox, an all star, wants to go to Orlando, Miami or Lakers. So the fact that the Magic are even mentioned with the two big markets shows how stars view us.
Literally zero reading comprehension.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Did that article say fox has Orlando as one of his preferred destination? I read it multiple times and didn't see anywhere saying we were one of his preferred spots...

You failed to read the actual article posted in this thread. But hey, small detail that it doesn’t say Fox wants to play for Orlando. It happens, and I forgive you. Reading is tough. Easier to call people out for failing to read instead of taking the time to read yourself.
My point was that the Magic want to make themselves a destination long term, and going all in now is a potential way to jeopardize what they’ve built for seasons and seasons to come.

Fos has the same agent as KCP.
Another non shooter to pair with Paolo and Franz? Pure Magic.

I understand the need for a guard. Would actually prefer a high level role player, like a prime Jrue Holiday.

prime Jrue was an all-star.... hell, I'd take prime Jrue over Fox if I was building a team from scratch.

I guess he made an all-star team, but don't think anyone ever considered him a superstar you can build your team around. He's a high quality piece for a winning team though. We need the guy who can dribble, defend, shoot well and get the ball to Paolo in the right places.

Your expectations are obviously way too high to begin with.
Let me fill you in cuz it looks like you're having a problem here.
The Magic are mentioned in the same breath as Miami and the Lakers.
That is basically as good as its going to get for our market and if you cant understand that its its useless trying to help you.

Re: Magic reportedly eyeing Deaaron Fox trade, preparing for instant title contention
No to Fox as a Magic fan who thinks this trade will jeopardize the whole re-build of Orlando Magic? Why? Let me explain.
First, this trade will screw up the entire time line of our team building. What if Fox is indeed traded to Orlando, and at the same time, Orlando can not contend or winning a Championship? Will Fox want out again? Or Paolo or Franz could be fed up. Why? Because this would cap us because of the salary cap situation.
Second, even Orlando is made to contend, we have our own timeline. We build this franchise with the core of Franz and Paolo. They are still young, guys! Even with Fox, with the depth we have and flexibility we have, we are not going to win automatically. Because there is a Boston Celtics. And there is a Cleveland team also.
Third, Fox is eligible for a Super Max in 1.5 years, which is 50 million dollars at least. Can we afford Franz's max, Paolo's super max plus Jalen Suggs 30M per year and Fox. If you think it could work, you have to teach me. Because hell no I do not think we can even afford this team even the salary cap is increasing 10% per year.
All in all, short term excitement and dumb move
But most important of all, this will absolutely screw up our timeline

I don't want instant title. I want a team built for a ten year run.

Well, I don't agree.
Look at the Raptors. The team traded away a decade of future for one title. It was the right choice. That banner will hang forever!
For me the issue is that a trade for Fox does not make Orlando a title contender. So the trade makes no sense.

It seems like we’re linked to everybody now that we have a semblance of identity. Couldn’t get a single free agent to look at us, now, we’re like a negotiation tactic for these stars that never want to come and play here.

Magic are going to need a third star in order to contend. This is the kind of move I was expecting last trade deadline, and last offseason. I'll believe Weltman is willing to make a big move when I see it, though.

Re: Magic reportedly eyeing Deaaron Fox trade, preparing for instant title contention
Remember, this could be a distress sale…SAC kind of have to deal him or lose him and live with the cloud in the meantime…
It’s not a normal valuation (that SAC fans are imagining), it’s strictly a matter of what other teams will trade…and SAC is NOT just going to tank (with Sabonis and other vets).
-I don’t think SAS will put Castle on the table, who else is so appealing? They are really patient and maybe won’t disable their promising, but still thin core for Fox.
-LAL has nothing of significance, other than the balls to try (which, historically, is still a threat)
-HOU can start with FVV, and add prospects…that’s a threat because SAC could stay competitive AND enhance their future
-I think even a non-Suggs package could be pretty appealing…their defense sucks and they would still retain significant offense-only firepower in Sabonis, DeRozan, Monk, etc…so, who do you call for a defense-only overstock?
…the BIG concern, imo, is how the payroll looks when the dust settles…the more I look, the more I think it’d work, but we’d have to aggressively work to unload WCJ & Cole for $$$ savings this summer or by next summer.
Go big or go home, Weltman
KCP & AB + Jett or Harris (I’d prefer Jett, for guaranteed money out) and frps makes SAC a still formidable team, with a defensive backcourt that’s as tough as any in the league…plus, Devin Carter coming in & Monk…similar to ORL’s inverted offense, Sabonis is the playmaker, so AB can contribute in other ways as he develops as a PG.
