there were some videos insulting Ataturk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atat%C3%BCrk . At the moment youtube is not banned, it was close just for a few weeks and in fact it was accessible(proxy ext..)

weeks? it was only banned a day or something. And yes it was because of insult videos targeting Ataturk. but I guess they don't care about it anymore, because nowadays youtube is full of such videos. anyway it's not lack of internet usage in Turkey that prevents Hedo from rising, but people simply don't know they can vote. If people where told where and how to vote (by newspapers, tv etc..) they would.

Easy, find Turkish sports message boards and start there by leaving the link. I'd do the same thing on my Greek soccer site if we'd grab a Greek player. :)

I think Turkish B-ball fans do their duty, but that's not the target you want (to small). To get to the big masses, the average Joe or in this case the average Ali they need to push this thing in Newspapers and TV.

What's up with Greek basketball players in the NBA anyway? Spanoulis split after last season, Papaloukas doesn't want to come, so begs me to wonder what Diamantidis is gonna do. Actually the Magic could use him a lot.

Spanoulis was/is our 4th best PG behind Papaloukas, Diamantidis and Zisis and every Greek knew he couldn't shoot when he was drafted and came over so it was know surprise to see his short stint here.

Diamantidis probably won't come over unless he is promised some nice cash because those guys are getting paid some nice euros.
Diamantidis would be a god here with his great distribution and even better defense (and he's actually big). :)

I'm sorry guys I have been very unprofessional in that I have only voted twice

Anyways I hope the coaches vote him in b/c they usually base it off of how a team is doing and even tho the pistons are having a great year, Prince hasn't really put up good #'s not Hedo #'s at least

1. diamantidis and papaloukas of two years ago would make the magic serious contenders.
2. imagine a starting lineup of papaloukas, diamantidis, hedo, rashard/whatever, dwight.
3. great offense and defense.
only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

One observation: Dwight Howard has more votes than Yao Ming.

it's only because Yao mania has died off, he's not the gimmick he once was (in the non NBA sense), he's an NBA player that has had his ups and downs, and needs to be up in order to appease everyone...still a GREAT player...

Yes.

... but.

There are about 300 million people in the States (legal or not). There are 1.3 billion people in China; most with internet access.

There are about 500 million people in China who follow basketball. There might be 50 million in the States.

.... and Howard is LEADING Ming!!!!!

my post was geared toward the Chinese mainly...they have Yi now...

so it's either they dont know about the vote because the NBA has done a poor job of promotion or its a variation of my previous cogitations...

or China fell in love with Dwight :D

theEthIEf has a point. Ming-mania has definitely dipped some, basically because mania can last only so long. Obviously Ming's play has continued to improve from season to season, but the "OMG!" factor of a 7' player from China going against the big names in the states has certainly died down. Yi is the new Yao, because the Chinese fans now want to see if Yi can succeed like Yao did before him (but obviously Yao had more of an impact, being the first, and likely more talented player).

Still, I would not have expected Howard to be leading Ming in votes. I too am really surprised to see that.

believe me, if hedo was a soccer player, even chinese votes would have a hard time holding him off.

Diamantidis would do the trick & lift this team to the next level... its probably hard to understand for people who have never seen him play but this guy does more on the court than stats can count. Great player ...
