practicing with our guys can only help him

Yes. And don't forget this is why Marcin Gortat was brought over. Practice squad play for Euroleague players is key for the transition to NBA ball.

You guys will be much better off if you just accept that he's never coming, and if he does end up here for some strange reason, then you can see what the Magic have got. It's not worth the aggravation of continuing to dwell on it. Let's just move forward and hope beyond hope that they actually make a pick this year that the coach will play and who contributes to the team in some positive way.

Why the hell should we be showing "interest" and negotiating with our own draft pick 2 years down the road.

Man up and come to the team that you declared yourself elligable for. Muppet.

lol, your sig is hilarious.

I hope it's something that would happen soon, but according to what his agent said, it would happen in a few months, which probably means during the offseason (if it even does happen).

If I was Fran, Id rather be paid in Euros for the near future......

I have mixed feelings about this guy. Obviously he was a douche for what he did, but I still get excited about the idea of a lottery bigman from Europe coming over with a few more years experience, ala Manu. Doubt he will have half the impact of Manu, but who knows. Thing is we will never know bec when he comes he will get boo'd, lose his confidence, and be completely ineffective.

^^ The diference is Ginobili was a star when he went to the NBA. VaZquez (NOT VaSquez) is averaging 5 pts in 14 minutes this season.

Fran is not coming over anytime soon to play for the Magic. Toronto, San Antonio and Memphis have the best chance getting him over here. we need to somehow trade him to one of those teams.

Vazquez told a Spanish newspaper this week that he is ready now to come to the United States and play for the Magic. Smith said assistant general manager Dave Twardzik and international scouting coordinator Sam Foggin met recently with Vazquez and his representatives. But Smith said any talk of Vazquez joining the Magic next season won't get serious until he negotiates the 7 million Euro buyout of his contract.

"If he comes over here now, he'd basically be playing for free," Smith said. "We'll continue to monitor it, but there's not much there right now."

And back down the roller coaster we go haha. 7 million buyout is insane.

Barca might not want Vazquez's salary on the payroll next year. I think NBA teams are allowed to pay up to $500,000 for a buyout. If the Magic are willing to pay up to that amount Barca might just take it, Barca gets cash and doesnt have to pay his last year of his salary. Magic get some much needed depth and athletecism in the frontcourt at a cheap price. It could be a win-win for both teams.

Whether its next year or the year after, at least the words coming out of his mouth are positive. And I like the fact that he got a new agent, hopefully Cornstein is totally out of the picture. This guy really has potential in being Dwight's complement in the future. Kudos to Otis for not having a meltdown with him and burning any bridges. It might not be the bust pick we initially feared after all. Even David Robinson had to go away to serve another obligation before coming to the nba and dominating.....well I can dream anyway.

Yeah, but I think Robinson only had a one-year obligation.

And don't be fooled. Fran does not have a new agent. That Cabelo guy is his agent for negotiations with European league teams. Cornstein is his NBA-linked agent. Cornstein claimed that he didn't know anything Cabelo was doing when Fran negotiated that Spanish league deal after the Magic drafted him. Whether that was true or not, who can say. But Cabelo has been the guy who negotiated his European deals -- at least as long as we have known who Fran Vazquez is.

wouldn't he receive his first years rookie salary? Which is guaranteed amount based on being picked 11th. I don't have time to look it up now, but I will later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

No there isnt a guarentee. But being the 11th pick he has to be better. They were picked in the same draft and Franny was projected to go between 10-25. Gortat wasnt even projected to be drafted by some people.
