but on the subject of his marketability...
everyone who knows basketball knows JJ...NCAA fans are more than NBA fans...there are a lot of JJ haters, but there are also a heap of supporters...college stars like JJ make for well followed stars in the NBA...
sure Arroyo has more fans in the stands in Orlando, but put JJ in a Chicago, Charlotte, Indy, Dallas etc. jersey and you will have a grip of fans there specifically to see JJ, an that's TODAY without him getting any PT...even today he has a bunch of fans at the games in Orlando...not as many as Arroyo, but more than any other non-playing player has...
JJ has the wholesome, all american marketability...there will be kids coming out of the woodwork to support JJ if he makes it big...
whats better than the kid who dominated college ball, coming into the bigs and dominating?
and im sorry you arent able to see that a kid who can shoot from anywhere on the court, be it setup, jump shot, turn around, fading away, pushing off, 34' out or driving for the layups isnt the best weapon we have for offense...but it's probably true...with good spread, and having the ball dropped into his hands anywhere on the court, his main goal is ball in basket, and more often than not, he wins that battle...
all this data and the funny thing is, im not a JJ fan...i wish we never drafted him to be honest...i'd be happy with Armstrong/Brewer/Douby/Balkman/Rondo/Marcus Williams/Boone/Shannon Brown/Farmar/Boobie/Alexander Johnson...but we didnt get them, we got Redick, and he has tools...tools we've never seen in Orlando...he just needs the right workup and the minutes...
Ok, I'll agree with you in marketability. Hell there are more threads about JJ on here then there are on any other player(maybe Turkoglu has more).
Do you really believe that Stan Van Gundy would bench the best player on the team in offense????? I mean if JJ is a better offensive player than Turkoglu, why is Turkoglu starting? Turkoglu is an avg at best defender, shouldn't we start JJ at SG and Evans at SF in that case if JJ is our best offensive player? Obviously JJ isn't one of the top 4 options, because if he was then Jameer wouldn't be starting. Only 1 of Jameer and JJ can start while not being a liability and I guarantee you Jameer isn't starting because of his defense. (I'm aware that he lost his starting spot because of injury to Arroyo, but he'll be back starting) If JJ was really the best player on our team offensively, he would be starting at SG and someone like Dooling would be our starting PG(to mask his defensive deficiencies).
I must be dumb or something, because I don't understand the hype for him. He was a helluva player in college, so I can see why they have fans, but this is the NBA. Forget what he accomplished in college. He is the 12th man here in Orlando. So isn't it common sense that if 1 guy isn't seeing the floor at all and likely won't see the floor much at all and he has a little bit of trade value and you could get someone that would see the floor and make an impact on the game, why wouldn't you take that deal even if the player has less perceived potential? Isn't someone who can crack the rotation and get some PT more valuable then someone who doesn't?
Don't get me wrong, he's a lights out shooter and is a big time scorer, but he does absolutely nothing else. He doesn't get assists, he doesn't rebound, he doesn't play defense. He can't impact a game without getting the ball. Who would you rather him get the ball over? Hedo? Shard? Dwight? Honestly what would be the point of him being in the game if he would be the 4th option?????? At best he would be the #3 option(Dwight has to be in with JJ in to spread the floor and our offense just falls apart when Turk or Shard isn't on the floor). JJ is at his best when there are plays run for him and he is a top 2 option scoring, he just won't ever have that opportunity in Orlando.
Hell being the JJ fans that many of you are, why wouldn't you want him traded? He's not gonna get the PT or the ball enough where he can flourish here in Orlando, so why don't you want the best for him and let him get dealt somewhere that he can get on the court rather than warming the bench.
