Atlanta would match in a heart beat? They already have and allstart in Joe Joe at the 2, Josh Smith who plays multiple positions including guard, & Bibby at the guards spots. They have a couple other fowards. Im not sure they would match Child for the right offer. Diop MLE and up???? LOL are u insane?

The Hawks would be reluctant to pay a lot for JC since they have to re-sign Marvin Williams next summer and he is basically a backup. Childress will probablyu end up in Memphis since they have the money to afford him, and none of the big names will want to go there this summer.

Diop will get paid this summer. Big men always do.

Use JJ to move up on draft day and get Darren Collison.

Then sign Childress with MLE and Diop with LLE.

Call it an offseason.

Jameer/Collison/Dooling
Childress/Evans/Dooling
Rashard/Hedo/Bogans
Battie/Fran/Cook
Dwight/Diop/Gortat

I totally agree with you about using JJ to move up and get Collison, I've mentioned that one myself. I also like the idea of resigning Evans and Dooling, but I'm skeptical about getting Josh for the mle. Diop may get the full mle, or at least half of it. Either way, he won't be available for the LLE. We might as well just pick up the option on Foyle instead. But, if we can get a guy like Childress or Maggette for the mle, we would be golden. Unfortunately, Pietrus looks like a more realistic option.

Darko makes like $7 Million per year and he hasn't really done anything to warrant that.

I think Darko was used as an example that big men get big contracts, regardless of their on court play.

You know what......

Getting a Superstar on the team will be impossible. We will have to get rid of Hedo for this to happen.

Try the MLE which is around $5. Now I am not saying he ISNT getting paid. But the way you make it sound is that he should have gotten his $10mil he thought he was worth. Which isn't always the case as he is a perfect example of that.

According to HoopsHype, he's getting 6.5 this, 7 the next and 7.5 the one thereafter.

According to StoryTellers, it's 6.3, 7.0 and then 7.6 for the last year of the contract.

According to Coon's FAQ, the MLE was 5.3 this for this season.

That's a fact.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

I'm sure some western contender will offer Diop more than we can.

With out a sign and trade, the Magic aren't going to get a star type player. They will get a good player with the MLE though and that will improve the team.

By the way, it is a buyers market this summer so there will be a lot of good players available for the MLE.

Diop may be gotten for the MLE, but no lower. The LLE for him is a pipedream. I want Dimitrius Diamantidis or Josh CHildress of we plan to spend that money in the backcourt.

Very true, only a hand full of teams will be able to offer contracts worth more than the MLE, something like 4 or 5 teams. And all of the following players are expecting more than the MLE.

Josh Smith
Josh Childress (I think that a max MLE offer with max raises gets it done)
Emeka Okafor
Luol Deng
Ben Gordon (maybe, his stock is def falling)
Andris Biedrins
Monta Ellis
Corey Maggette
Shaun Livingston (maybe not bec of his injury)
Andre Iguodala
Ron Artest
Jose Calderon
Gilbert Arenas
Antwan Jamison

Some of those players will be settling for MLE offers.

Yep. Also the majority of teams that can offer more than the MLE are bad teams.

I personally would love to sign Jamison to the MLE and draft a SG.

I don't think Jamison goes for the mle but you never no. Looking at these players and armed with this knowledge. Kind of shows how idiotic some posters were about Otis not doing anything before the trade deadline, because there are definetly some better options than what we could have gotten.

I don't see how they are directly related?

The MLE would be there even if made a move to improve the team. Once again I am going under the assumption that BVW & Co will do more than pay lip service to "win at all costs".

Jamison will be 32 years old next year and there is really only one team that can give him major money and that team is the team he is on now, unless he wants to go to a non-playoff team to end his career.

IMO Jamison will take the MLE and go to a contending team. He has made his money and 6 million plus a year, playing on a contending team is probably worth more to him now than making 10 million a year and losing.

I would love to see the Magic get him mainly because he would fill our PF need and give us a legit allstar. We can draft a SG.

I just think that had we made a move the Magic would have been reluctant to use the mle for fear of the luxery tax. In fact I would almost guarantee that they would not have used it had we picked anyone with talent up, because those players would have had bigger contracts and more years on them. Plus most teams wanted us to take on salary to do anything.

Exactly. The MLE would have been their regardless. Otis could have made a trade, filled a hole and then the Magic could have added another player with the MLE.

I'm still shaking my head about us not getting Gasol. We could have offered the same type of expirings and Reddick, plus 2 future 1st rounders and then used the MLE to round out the roster in the offseason. Memphis probably would have dealt with us as well since we are in the eastern conference.

Otis IMO = idiot and will never take a chance. He values scrubs higher than legit good players. Sorry but I don't want a GM like that.
