In five years, baring injury, Howard is likely to be the NBA's finest defender. At the same time, he will be averaging more than 2 offensive rebounds a game and more than 20 ppg.

A very good offensive player who is the game's best defensive player equals franchise. That's the near future.

Howard is in his 4th year and is 22.

He is a franchise player.

He is not 4 quarters dominant at this time. He may never be offensively, but I am of the same opinion as drsd that Howard's strengths will be on the defensive end and rebounding.

Kind of a mix between Bill Russell and Moses Malone.

Wait until he is 26, then ask if Howard is a franchise player.

The players you mentioned all have the ball in their hands 75% of the time. Dwight is dependent on people getting him the rock in scoring position, and as last night's game vs. Philly proved, that is easier said than done at times. Having said that, anyone who beliefs that Dwight Howard is not a already a franchise player is on crack. He's franchise, with plenty of room to grow!

Exactamundo. Bigs can't dominate the ball without help. Dwight will never be a clutch time go to guy until he can shoot free throws.

i agree that he needs to be more of a Mr. 4th quarter and more vocal but that will come with maturity, but I like that hes goofy. hes a fun guy who genuinely loves basketball. and im sorry but he is definately a franchise player.

What a weak argument. So unless he hands us a championship, he's not a franchise player? I'm guessing guys like KG, Dirk, Nash... heck, Stockton, Malone, Ewing etc aren't franchise players? :dontknow:

Sure, he still needs to learn a lot. But holy smokes, the guy is 22! Give him a break.

They have a very warped sense of what a franchise player is. It simply means a guy that you can build a franchise around, Dwight definitely fits that. Your team leader doesn't always have to be your franchise player and vice versa. D.A. was our team leader and he could hardly be considered a franchise player. I agree that we don't have a team leader yet, but it certainly doesn't mean that Howard isn't a franchise guy.

See.

this is REAL hatin.

How can Dwight be the best center in the league and not be a franchise player? Silly stuf Dwight does need to get more offensive moves but that is coming along just fine.

Shaq has never been a Mr. 4th quarter. Are we going to say he wasn't a franchise? That argument is laughable.

of course dwight is a franchise player, hes only what 22, how many legit franchise players are 22? dwight can improve his game in many ways and has lots of upside, when he reaches his potential, if he does, its gonna be sick and im glad he is the franchise player of the magic..

No kidding! I'm actually ashamed that I even bothered defending Dwight. Skip Bayless and Jemele Hill...bwahahahahahah. I respect the opinion of pretty much any poster on RealGM over those ass clowns.

You really really need to calm down man.

It's pretty evident that Magic aren't as good as those Detroit and Boston Teams. We can't compete against them unless we play some defense, get a superstar gaurd, and some size inside. And our Road Record, i don't know if you have noticed, but our Road recored after that great 13-2 start on the road has been below average. It's like 9-11 on the road. We've picked up the slack at home recently, and it's evened out pretty much.

bro u lost this is a forum for MAGIC FANS the hater threads are on any of the other team sites, its ok i can forgive your ridiculious statement but only this once K.

dwight doesn't need to put up more pts in the 4th quarter or bark like an animal to pump his team up in order to be a "franchise" player, he just needs to stop goofing around during the game, especially when we're losing.

Well, that explains it. Skip Bayless says daily on ESPN First Take that he doesn't think LeBron James is a franchise player. And I have heard Jemele Hill say on that show before that she likes the Pistons.

These questions are (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Name me one other player putting up 22/15/2 on 60 percent..you can't.

Big men just usually don't get the shots down the stretch. These pundits do not account for a players pressence. Hedo gets freed up because of Rashard and Dwight, their defenders can't leave those two or hedo will get them the ball.

Jemele Hill is a tool, who cares what that fat ass says? and Skip Bayliss? he's the white scoop jackson, minus the race bull.
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.
