The cover is not racist, but the statements about him looking like King Kong are. Now if they had him scaling the empire state building, that might be a different story. LOL, no porch in the background....thats a joke that only you could have gotten away with Thief. I wouldn't have touched that one with a ten foot pole. :wink:

I agree it wasn't racist until they made it racist. Those comments were extremely racial in my opinion by that "magazine editor." People from my generation would have no clue these stereotypes existed if it weren't for the nuts who keep bringing this crap up all the time.

it's been a couple weeks since i first saw that vogue cover and it's still unclear to me what the hell they were thinking when they made it.

for starters, isn't vogue a fashion magazine?

if you're going to have lebron james on the cover, wouldn't it make sense to have him wear a suit or something?

i mean, i really can't imagine what they were trying to accomplish by making that their cover.

especially when you consider the obvious undertones.

that's actually not 100% true...black people need to point the finger at themselves for a lot of the racial tension and negative issues associated with the many races today....until we learn how to properly utilize groups such as the NAACP we will never be looked upon as equals...Blacks bring a lot of negative to themselves, actions speak louder than words...until we stop the lawsuits and stop forcing the hand of organizations like the FCC to create unfair justice, we will never move forward...

as for this cover, it's stupid...the photo looks dumb to me, there, in my mind is no reason to have him on this cover...and as for the undertones which may or may not be there intentionally, i dont care if he had a spear in his right hand and a mask on, big deal, the kid still approved the photo and says he enjoys it...

Personally i really dont like it...I mean when i first saw the cover it just seemed weird...I was expecting to see LeBron in a suit posted up or something...And hes in some plain looking basketball warmup that isnt fasionable at ALL with a model that he has nothing in common with and no connection too...So it just seemed weird...Until i read what the editor said

I mean the guy who shot it even admitted that he was playing on the black man wanting white girl scenario...While the spokesman said they were just feature to up and comers in the game...My ass...Somethings not right...I just wonder if Lebron knew about it before hand and why he acceptted it

I can just picture him all ready for the photo shoot trying to look all fly and get a fresh cut and they hand him some tight warm ups and tell him to scream...lol why?

Controversy sells...I may be wrong but Lebron is smart and very good at making money: he may have known beforehand he was stirring some stuff and he ok'd it, cuz as long as ppl talk, the mag sells and he's still on everyone's mouth.

I think the ones who are racist are the people who look at this pic and thinks he looks like a gorilla. I've seen this picture several times and that never entered my mind. Sad thing is they are the same people pointing it out and crying about it.

Honestly I never made that connection until it was pointed out.

I just thought there was a strange disconnect between him and her.

Like quaddub, I figured he'd be dressed dapper - JayZ or Diddy like - in a nice suit and all haute couture accouterments (diamond earrings, diamond encrusted watch, skinned shoes, etc).

i would expect different from people who work in the media, though.

me, i'm in a bit of a bad situation myself since i shouldn't be expected to notice any of the undertones in that image either.

People really need to pull their heads out of their asses. I think the only thing racist about this situation is that someone looked at Lebron and saw a Gorilla.
