All it takes is one jackpot in the mid-lottery to turn this around. That seems to be the route this FO is going. Pray for a miracle so they don't have to do their actual job of moving assets and planning for the future.

He wasn’t. Minnesota was fine with him on the floor. Bad players make their teams worse. He shot poorly, but improved as the season wore on. I’d do it. He has no place in Minnesota at this point. He’ll be solid defensively. I was really impressed with him when I watched him in college. It’s a gamble, but I think it’s good value.
I wouldn't put too much value in on /off court when team he plays has 19-45 record.
His RPM of -1,78 make him 85th ranked SG in nba.
His RAPTOR shows he is both offensive and defensive negative value.
His win share is negative.
His RAPTOR data is -3,8, witch means, among 255 players who played at least 1000 min in nba, he was 14# worst.
To be fair, he is rookie, and most of other players worst than him are also- rookies.
But i really struggle to find value in him. He is shooting guard who also can't shoot, pass, handle the ball nor defend. Where value for playing him will come from ?
For crying out loud, he can't even shoot 50% FTs .
It's not gamble, gambler play with assumption they can win, in this case this is classic example of draft bust who had solid sophmore college year, yet if you dig deeper writing of his limitations was on the wall, but scours acted blind on it.
At college he was 6'6 shooting gaurd that was shooting over opponents ( but never actually was good at shooting, 30% in second year for 3) , in nba he lacks speed, verticality, leaping or quickness to be player that will take guys off dribble, and in same time he is pathetic shooter to even be worth covering ( 46% FT shooter)
Guy year before nailed it. ( and got lot of crap for it in comments and dislikes ). He simply isn't REALLY good at anything, actually never was.
In year 1 he shot ugly but shot 38% for 3, in year 2 he reworked shot ,looked more pleasing to eye, but couldn't shoot ( 30% for 3) , entered NBA without any sort of jumpshot. Translated into his complete inability to shoot from any range in nba, including FT%.
Pretty much two- guard who can't play with ball, but also has no purpose off ball. Hard pass for me ( and T wolves who figured he is not nba level player after few months and traded for Malik Beasley, who actually can play basketball and who i cried for a trade for like year ).
i watched a lot of Culvers games. he was good at defense at TT. often taking on the opposing teams best players. And he played in the Big 12, not the MEAC. he didnt "tower" over opposing guards, they were the same size or even an inch or two taller. also had almost 4 apg so yes, he could play with the ball.
and for any youtube video saying Culver will be a bust, you can find more that say he wont

I personally believe they've been available for awhile but because of what the magic ask for in return, a trade never gets done.. similar to what just happened with Portland..BAMBAEXPRESS wrote:Tarheel wrote:Windhorst on the Hoop Collective saying that Fournier and Gordon are names that are out there as available. Doubt it. Magic front office too afraid that they will lose their precious 8th seed if they do something bold.

Video i posted was about before his rookie year and met with lot of hard words, in reality guy who made a video NAILED everything wrong with Culver. He is 6'6 non shooting guard. His path toward long career i to bulk up 40 pounds and play small ball PF because that China trip will come sooner than anybody expected for his career.
He was easly one of the worst nba rotation players last year. And he is 22. Not some happy - go lucky, 19 years old who has years of time to develop.

I'm emerging from lurking to deliver this unpopular opinion that will immediately get bashed:
Let's run it back! (but trade Fournier, of course)
All of the relevant arguments have already been made by people here. I think the thing that divides people is how much we regard mediocrity this season as a disaster. If you think mediocrity in 2021 is a disaster, then you are going to want to tank.
I don't think mediocrity in 2021 is a disaster unless we make huge new bad investments (like when we signed Biz). I understand that hoping for Fultz and AG to become something more than they have been is a long-shot hope, but it's at least a long-shot hope that I can enjoy.
Tanking is also a long-shot hope, and it's a miserable experience while it's happening.

Can we do a sign and trade for Gordon Hayward, by trading away Fournier and more?

umm, Culver is 21. and no, he doesnt have to play PF. Culver shot 38% from 3 his freshman year. dropped to 30% his soph year, but he also carried a much heavier load for the team, PER was 25 and his USG was double almost everyone else, while also guarding the opposing teams best player. He is still someone i would take a flyer on.

Hayward for Aminu and Fournier would actually be an interesting trade for both teams.

I agree about Fournier. I'm attracted to team ball and good defense, Fournier isn't good at either one.Catledge wrote:I'm emerging from lurking to deliver this unpopular opinion that will immediately get bashed:

Why does Boston do that though? that is a downgrade for them. plus they take on longer salary in Aminu

I know Hayward is an injury concern. But dude is still in his prime and his games last year, he looked great.
But is it logistically possible to sign and trade him?
Especially after we drafted RJ Hampton. This lineup is exciting

Hayward probably wants an long term deal and they don't want to do it. Plus they're kind of crowded at his position.tiderulz wrote:drsd wrote:MasterGMer wrote:Can we do a sign and trade for Gordon Hayward, by trading away Fournier and more?

To get rid of Hayward - and save salary costs - and to gain bench depth to make a run this year.

I guess i just dont understand the "get rid" part. He is an expiring, and thats only if he takes his player option, he could walk now. And he's had some injuries but produces.

Hmm, if only there were a simpler way to “get rid of” a pending free agent ...
How unfortunate that they would have to take on $10M+ of additional Aminu salary the following year.

To make it works, the only way is a sign and trade. We can part ways with Fournier and Aminu, and gamble on a starter that could take us further in the playoff

where does the S&T come in? is that Hayward opting out and doing longer contract S&T to us?

Yes, a longer contract
