Dallas getting a 1st is one of the many reasons I left the NBA. I'm not sure we are watching a sport as much as we are a space opera.

To the people freaking out over the draft lottery. Obviously you want a higher pick, it still has a higher probability of hitting, but good players are coming from all over the draft consistently. There are several 2nd round picks in here, several extremely late 1sts. Developing your own player is the most frequent way of adding top tier talent, but tons of trades and FA signings in here as well. A lot of times it is just getting lucky finding your star and then adding around them. Sometimes it is a player forcing his way to you or signing with you for cheap because his dad works there. Sometimes you get Shai, Haliburton or Tatum because some team wants to go all-in with a roster that isn't going to win anything. That's how we got Franz.

Re: Around the League: 2024-25 Season
Great context! The draft is so important. An NBA title is a low-probability event: 3.3% is the ‘fair share’ per team. Any team-building strategy, especially for small markets, will naturally carry long odds. Take as many swings as possible in the draft.Idiosyncratic wrote:eyriq wrote:Best players on the final eight teams in no particular order

Re: Around the League: 2024-25 Season
And I will add Flagg rates above the typical #1 pick for sure, as did a guy like Wemby. So I realize the stakes in those lotteries were higher than normal. Could easily see one of those guys running the league and racking up rings and putting tanking for #1 all the way back on the map.
But the point remains, we tend to overrate how high someone is drafting IMO. It absolutely does matter to an extent, the odds of a better player goes up the better your pick is. Just think we overrate the extent to which that is. Just look at the list of best players in the playoffs, they are literally picked all over the place.

I mean it makes sense to give them that pick bc if that player becomes great they can then go to the Lakers for free, same with Orlando.

Dude is just garbage. There is just no versatility in his game. All he does jack up threes. Very poor post-up player despite being 7ft, terrible pick and role player, very soft and can be easily bodied, dude is just not that good.
He literally couldn't get through our 3rd string pg lol.

Bill Simmons, who is a big BOS homer, and Zach Lowe were talking about Porzingis as if he were toast...that's a tough one for BOS, who needs to make moves and their highest paid "Robins" might be tough to trade. ORL needs to be calling about Derrick White with picks in hand.

Cavs look like they’ve quit on this game. Pacers want it more.

That league best offense just completely dried up. They’ve fallen into a Magic-like offense of just a few guys going iso trying to do it all. Pacers are playing like a team.

Jerome had to lose himself some money with this series. A lot of celebrating against the Heat, but unfortunately the Heat were not a real playoff team.

Re: Around the League: 2024-25 Season
This could break the Cavs. Do they just run it back next season and think they do better in a different matchup in another year? Boston won’t be a contender with Tatum being out for 12 months, so the east is up for grabs - but are Cleveland good enough to grab it?

It's a bad build, too expensive and imbalancedBensational wrote:This could break the Cavs. Do they just run it back next season and think they do better in a different matchup in another year? Tatum being out means the Cavs have very good reason to blame this series on injuries and run it back IMO. Good chance they would have anyway.
