With Moe out until Dec/Jan I don't see the Magic trading either Wendell or Goga before the trade deadline. It seems like an easier way to shed salary is to dump Jett into somebody's TPE (Nets?)

I’ve thought about this too.

I do believe it is possible for us to move Goga, while Moe is out, provided we can get someone solid enough to sign a two-way deal.

I don’t think Goga for Knecht is great value from an on court perspective, but it does save a good amount of money and also gives the Magic the freedom to punt Jett into someone’s TPE and not harm their SG/SF depth.

Of course they would then need a third center unless they think Penda can small ball it.

I don’t think they need any “coverage” in order to move Jett…filling in for him is not daunting.

Queen, for starters, is already more proven.

Goga for Knecht - saves 4.8M
Jett into someone’s TPE - saves 5.5M

Sign some third string center for the veteran minimum - adds anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5M depending on experience

That would leave about 7.5 to 8.5 year 1 for Moe.

Cant we just trade Jett for 2 srps or something? Im ok with trafing Goga but not now unless we know if Moe is on his timeline and he can still ball as usual

Would be funny we let Goga go and Moe is back but caj move like Pat Ewing/Shawn Kemp during the glory magic years of 2000

But there is a roster and salary crunch.

I’m now working under the guise the Magic want to pay Moe a fair-ish amount and still avoid the tax if they can.

Punting Jett alone probably doesn’t accomplish both things.

So maybe we’re talking Goga for a cheaper 2/3 in addition to punting Jett, then signing a cheap third center.

Jett has negative trade value, he’s likely out of the NBA after next season, so the Magic would have to be the one including 2nd round picks to offload him to a team that has 5.5 mil to waste next year.

As for Goga, he’s more important to the team than Anthony Black. The more likely scenario to,save money is trading Anthony Black.

There will always be a team thinking they can gind value out of guys released from teams. We did it with MoeSwag and Goga.

Guys like Chuma and Iwundu got contracts immediately after we released them.

Someone will bite on Jett

I guess Jett is with Cole from the pic on IG. I assume they are around the NY area since Juwan is a coach for Brooklyn. Jett was also the only Magic player who posted a pic of Gary Harris signing with the Bucks.

Often we think about two-way players in a context of late-season usage. But as under the current CBA rules two-way player salaries are completely excluded from all cap, tax, and apron calculations, this could be a very interesting use of such players!

This could mean a Adama Sanogo type player.

The only downside to this is you cant use them during the playoffs.

That propably means he is empathic and a good teammate.
As always i am in minority but i am really curious if he could blossom with Tyus at the helm.
He is much more skilled than both Black and TDS. I like him more next to Penda.
At least he will have a chance to succed unlike in the past.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

One question I hadn’t fully considered is whether we’re motivated to stay under the $187.8M luxury tax line. Teams that pay the tax three out of four years trigger the repeater penalty, which significantly increases the financial hit. There are no roster-building penalties, just monetary ones.

The argument for staying under the tax now is that it delays starting the repeater clock. But how much does that really matter? If avoiding the tax means sacrificing talent, that would be a cheap and disappointing choice.

I don't think this is a motivation right now at all, but it's interesting to consider given we are currently at 13 players and balanced right on the tax threshold.

It is 100% that the Magic is over the 1st apron next year. And with only a 7% increase in cap next year, the 7+10 leading to 2027/28, it might be difficult for the Magic to get below that lux line.

That said, the Magic ownership has always had an open wallet. So maybe it doesn't matter.

Yes, bird rights help with the cap. However, they do not help when an apron is triggered. Won't help us with Mo & Caleb, if Tyus money stays at $7M.

Clearly we are working on something or we would have already announced the deal for Moe.
