How is that? Memphis drops a SF and get just a PF in return to play behind Randolph. Sure, they save money, but basically just took themselves out of any chance they had of competing for a title.

And that was my point last week. Most owners view their club as an investment. It's about the money for a lot of them. OKC won't pay the tax and neither will the Spurs.

yep, NBA teams don't want tax or to overpay player, for all Gay's talent he earn's a lot! if he was here and we got a young PF and got a salary dump would you be pleased or understand the move?

I'd be livid if I were a Grizz fan. They are a top 3-4 team in the league and ownership just pulled the plug on the season. I understand and agree Gay is overpaid, but I'd have a tough time swallowing this. I blame Hollinger....that bald headed nerd ****

A deal for the Memphis Grizzlies to send Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors has been agreed upon, according to sources.

The Raptors would send out Jose Calderon and Ed Davis while acquiring Gay and Hamed Haddadi.

The deal will eventually involve a third team taking Calderon, possibly the Detroit Pistons or Dallas Mavericks.

The Grizzlies could acquire either Tayshaun Prince or Corey Maggette, two veteran small forwards in the final season of the current deals.

Grizz just got under the Luxury tax. They could have made one more run at the Finals this year and blew it up during the summer.

Hollinger is a complete idiot.

New ownership wants a reset, I guess.

I don't get why they don't want Calderon though. He's a solid expiring. I guess if they can get an expiring SF that's why.

I'm just thinking out loud. Ignore me.

Hollinger is Grizzlies president of basketball operations, he's involved in trade talks and is probably sitting next to the GM advising him on trades.

:::From Hoopsworld RE: JJ Redick:::

No Deals For J.J. Redick: Despite an ending contract and virtually no means to secure his free agent rights, it looks like the Orlando Magic are going to hold the line on trading J.J. Redick.

Things in the NBA are always subject to change based on a phone call, however more than half the league has tried to pry Redick out of Orlando via trade and found very little interest from Orlando’s front office in making a deal.

Redick has been in constant communication with the Magic front office and they have kept Redick and his agent in the loop on the marketplace. The Magic are not letting Redick drive their process, but they are sharing information with J.J. and the word is there is a better than average chance the Magic not only hang on to Redick past the trade deadline, but that they may have the best shot at re-signing him this summer.

Things can and often do change at the deadline, but the early word is that Redick may end up right where he is today and if greener pastures present themselves in the off-season Orlando would look to sign-and-trade him.

My take on this for what its worth... This is just posturing by Henny. The best offers wont come forward until right before the deadline, thats how it works in this league, so if henny looks to be considering the early lower offers, the better offers will never come. By doing this, he has essentially set the bar a lot higher than where it currently is, and has also given himself some leverage by making it known that he is more than willing to resign him if needed.

I think were in a good position here. Henny doing all the right things, communicating clearly with JJ etc.

Wow. Terrible deal for the Grizz.

ZBo will be the next to go whilst they groom Ed Davis.

Raps did well to land Gay. Now it's just a case of them making the pieces fit.

Couldn't agree more. Lowry will prolly go Nuts now! I'm surprised they didn't get rid of Bargnani. Maybe that will be a separate trade.

So we are one less competitor away from a top 3 pick now. I fully expect the Wizards to pull it together, as will the Suns, so we should be hanging around with the Bobcats and Cavs for the bottom.

Return to Orlando Magic
