These Corona hysterics are getting a little ridiculous. I get erring on the side of caution, but this situation feels like it's getting blown way out of proportion. This is not the Black Plague we are dealing with.

It's really not. The only weapon we have to combat it right now is containment. I get that it seems largely inconsequential to most healthy adults, but many people will die if it is allowed to spread unabated. The mortality rate seems to be somewhere between 15 and 35 times higher than the flu. That's a pretty big deal considering how easily it appears to spread. Containment is what prevented SARS and MERS from becoming a big deal. It seems unlikely that this thing will get shut down at this point, but avoiding public gatherings until a vaccine is developed seems like a small price to pay to save lives.

It would be extremely interesting to watch NBA games on TV with no fans in the arena.

Is it really 15-35x (that’s a big range) more than the flu?? That’s crazy. Although I’m sure on a much smaller total volume.

I think it comes down to what you said, not so much containment for the sake of yourself but for pregnant women, cancer patients, immunocompromised anyone basically.

They flu doesn't kill 7 people in a retirement home within a few days or infect 800 people on a ship.

Wish we could trade fans for TNT play by play crew. Just a quiet broadcast with just the crowd cheering and players on the court talking. No Reggie Miller could add so much to those games.

We just don't know because we lack the data. China has reported somewhere in the neighborhood of 2%, while the flu is around 0.1%. The WHO reported a few days ago that the global mortality rate was at 3.4%. The Spanish flu was estimated at somewhere between 2-3% and it killed somewhere between 15-50 million people.

Main reason why Spanish flue had such a high mortality rate is incopetence of doctors.
Their holistic bull**** and not giving high temperature patience water to drink ( at all! ) is main reason why so many of them died.

Coronavirus from what i figured, is nothing but stronger flue. And that's the main reason why most of people who died are old.

I don't want you to think that some of us are denying the existence of Corona or doubting it's abnormalcy. I'm just not crazy about having society grind to a screeching halt in a hysterical panic over something that's not close to being 100% understood or may not be reported accurately.

Exactly it's a stronger strain of the flu. Eldery, the very young and people with immune system issues are at the highest risk. There's been 3,000 something deaths from coronavirus and around 300,000 from the regular flu. The infection factor is lower than the one for measles.

Coronavirus from what i figured, is nothing but stronger flue. And that's the main reason why most of people who died are old.

The new coronavirus, or COVID-19, has infected at least 95,000 people globally, and caused some 3,280 deaths. The outbreak has spread to more than 79 countries and is expected by the World Health Organization to reach most, if not all, nations around the globe. In the U.S., the case count had reached 233, with 14 deaths, as of Friday.

The virus appears to take a bigger toll on those with underlying health conditions (i.e., a weakened immune system) and older folks. That's similar to the influenza virus — better known as the flu, which has already sickened an estimated 32 million to 45 million people in the U.S. since Oct. 1, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Of those cases, an estimated 18,000 to 46,000 patients in the U.S. have succumbed to complications from the flu in the last five months, according to the CDC. The majority of those deaths — 70% to 85% — are in people age 65 or older. And, an estimated 50% to 70% of flu-related hospitalizations have involved that cohort...

Between 18k and 46k americans in the last 5 months... Covid-19 is nothing more than a stronger flu and people are using it to cause some panic and get money in the stock markets.

For sure. Any superstar on a small market team these days is out of there as soon as he's able to be. They just don't have the resources to bring in the right kind of help and a big market team is going to give him a blank check.

The vast majority of cases in China — 87% — were in people ages 30 to 79, the China Center for Disease Control reported last month based on data from all 72,314 of those diagnosed with Covid-19 as of Feb. 11. That probably reflects something about biology more than lifestyle, such as being in frequent contact with other people. Teens and people in their 20s also encounter many others, at school and work and on public transit, yet they don’t seem to be contracting the disease at significant rates: Only 8.1% of cases were 20-somethings, 1.2% were teens, and 0.9% were 9 or younger.

Since the all-star break the Orlando Magic are...

No. 1 in ORTG - 117.8
No. 29 in DRTG - 116.3

5-4 in 9 games played.

I hate how some people in the world play up the severity of actual problems like disease and global warming and use panic and fear as vehicles to push agendas or make a buck or to gain power. Then if you call them out on it, they cloak themselves in false self-righteousness and try to shame you as a denier or phobic or in somebodies pocket.

Wanna buy some protection masks that normally cost $1 for $30 ? :nonono:

Jokes aside, we are planet of fear. Nobody really knows for sure what Coronavirus is. You have some media reporting it's basically a flue that attacks breathing system. Than you have this doom and gloom reports that it's basically virus that has HIV compound combined with SARS or some crazy - chatastrophy movie scenarios and you have this crazy report that somebody in Spain was treated with lopinavir-ritonavir that esencially is treat for HIV and AIDS

And you hear all this scary reports " 100 people died today from corona in Italiy" and i was like wait a minut. Italy has population of 60 million people not even counting amount of illegal imigrants. But if you look at numbers for mortality from a random flue, numbers are not that much far off. Just there is no "corona" media hype about people dying from being cold and sneezing for a weeks.

Also how fast is it spreading ? It'a pandemic, it's world wide. How is that suprising? People avoid people from China and block borders, yet buy literally freaking food via internet- from China and buy clothes from Italy . How dumb are we getting? It's not fraeking AIDS that it needs direct contact to spread, it can be transmited via object, especially food.

And whole " controling borders " is such a bull*** , i know for fact that one person that is super close to me , traveled through whole Italy and passed 2 borders without any control. Countries are cheap, they won't test 500 000 people just to make you feel better, they will tell on tv that they do, but ofc they won't do it.
