Besides the injuries to key players like Moe and Suggs, the bench is completely different. The bench, in combination with the defense, was why the Magic were so good last year. Then you have guys like JI, Harris, Goga, Black, who seemed to have forgotten how to play basketball.
Part of me wants to say that the magic role players played over their heads last year but I can’t blame that on Mose.
That is literally the entire thing though, man.
If Mosley can't this team to play great defense and more generally speaking get this team to play with acceptable energy and effort, then what exactly is the point of him?
We know that he provides basically nothing from an X's and O's perspective, especially offensively.
We know that he provides basically nothing from a tactical perspective.
From day 1 of this guy's tenure here he's been a pure culture, rah rah, motivator kind of coach. "Play hard, play together, play physical." it's been absolutely nothing beyond these non-skill based platitudes.
And now those things just are no longer happening. So why does he deserve to be here?
For 3 1/2 years he had them playing hard. So, the past 3 months must be studied. What happened in the locker room that got these guys like this?
So there is a locker room problem?

They didn’t even have VanVleet and Amen. But, but, injuries!

I have no idea. But if this team was playing defense for 3 and 1/2 years and then all of a sudden a huge drop off, something had to have happened as a group.

They were just cold tonight and too many Rockets Offensive rebounds.
This one was going to be tough but the cold shooting is very frustrating.

We tend to lose a lot when teams don’t have their starters, so I wasn’t surprised at all.

I would cut Jett. I don't think he has any value. Another team might give him a chance because he's young.

Does it need to be studied? Sometimes the message just stops being received and that's that.
NBA coaches are pretty fungible. Guys get fired all the time. It's not at all like baseball where a computer could basically manage a game or like football where you need an entire offseason to install a system that basically can't be changed at all until the following offseason.
Hell, this is only Mosley's 4th season with the Magic and 17 teams have made a coaching change since he's been hired.
The organization would not be negatively impacted in the slightest if he left.

Atlanta won and Miami lost. The race for the southeast division title is going to be tight.

I don't want to make the 8th slot while being 5 games under 500. The Cavs are going to sweep us anyway.eyriq wrote:Atlanta won and Miami lost. The race for the southeast division title is going to be tight.

Not that it really matters at all, but I believe if the Magic win both of the remaining Wizards games and just one of the two remaining Hawks games that they would secure the division and thus the seeding tiebreaker on both the Hawks and the Heat by way of better division record since head-to-head would be tied with both teams.

33% from the field and losing on boards by 21 will do that to you
The sad thing is that they held them below 100. If could only make some shots and grab some rebounds this is a winnable game.

It really doesn’t matter which team we play. Our offense will make sure that we don’t get pass the first round. It is the experience for Paolo and Franz that is needed.

It's almost like defense doesn't matter when your offense is abysmal.

imagine it was like the old days where the division leader is automatically a top seed

The offense had been trending in the right direction before tonight. Six out of the previous ten games with an offensive rating above 110. Houston is just a really good defensive team and we got punked on the boards.

So who do we replace Mosley with? Are there any retreads worth considering? My favorite retreads have been snatched up already (that I can think of anyway). I view guys like Stotts and Mike Brown as great assistants but wouldn’t want them as head coaches. I could see Nurse getting fired but he has lost his luster IMO.
As for PBO options, who knows? Those guys are often in the shadows and outside of the media focus. Morey may also get fired so he may be an option but he also has made some really questionable decisions.
