Dipo is considered to be the better defender in the opinion of this board but both have a drtg of 106 while kyle's is 101. So I guess Dipo is an avg defender as well. Who knows what AG and Hark will bring this season.

Harks defense isnt overrated its about where it should be rated. Hes probablly not a lock down defender right now but Hes a good sound defender.

People are trying to hype AG and they cant identify a position for him yet, they see Harkless there and proceed to make up bull in order to justify "getting rid" of him pretending hes a detriment to the team so the new guy can get minutes. Thats what this board does.

I like AG and I think he'll be a very good player I think he bulks up and becomes a PF imo. I think he'll be a better player than Hark but that, doesnt have to mean Moe is a bad player or that, hes suddenly overrated.

i actually hear a lot of people call Harris bad at D, not average.

That comes from people that haven't actually watched him play. I mean, that has to be it, because if people actually watch Harris in games, they would agree he's a decent but not great defender. Certainly his defense doesn't hurt the team.

i feel this too. And the effort is definitely there. Just like Vuc, i believe he plays better defense than people give him credit for.

ESPN NBA front page has an Insider article about overlooked rookies. Payton and Gordon are featured prominently. Anyone want to tell us what it says?

Aaron Gordon, PF, Orlando Magic
Awful. That's really the only way to describe how Gordon played in Orlando Summer League. We knew he couldn't make shots outside of the paint in college, and thus far that hasn't changed. But he also struggled to make paint shots and didn't dominate the glass. However, it would be a huge mistake to suddenly determine that he won't end up as a quality player.

Only time will tell whether the Magic erred greatly by choosing Gordon over the likes of Dante Exum and Julius Randle with the fourth overall pick, but Gordon can become a good starter on a good team. He's an impressive athlete who just needs a lot of work on his skill game. With low expectations this season on him and his team, he'll have ample time to do just that.

Elfrid Payton, PG, Orlando Magic
As bad as Gordon looked, the Magic must feel better after seeing how Payton played. Yes, they could have drafted Exum, but they still appear to have their point guard of the future in Payton, who was selected 10th overall. He may very well have been the most impressive rookie point guard this summer.

Payton can't really shoot yet, but he finds ways to score and led both leagues with seven assists per game. He's a dark-horse candidate for ROY and someone who will excite fans in Orlando.

This is the overlooked rookies article, which means everyone who played at Orlando Summer League, since all the analysts were packing their suitcases for the Vegas junket.

They did a similar article a few days ago with the "biggest draws of the 2014 draft", which was a similar write up of the "top" rookies, which included Exum.

Dante Exum | PG/SG | Utah Jazz

The next time someone argues to avoid drafting a player because "he's not ready," remember Exum. He is the newest poster child for the argument against that philosophy. The guy has the look of a star -- do you think Utah cares that he's not yet ready to be a good player even in summer league action?

The fact is, when Exum had the ball in his hands, the gym crackled, even though he rarely did anything good. But the signs were all there. Skilled and long, Exum should be a dynamic guard who can play point guard or shooting guard. He can be an excellent defensive player if coached up well, and in time should at least be able to be a solid perimeter shooter.

But it's his quick burst that has experts excited about his future. He also plays with that aesthetic "coolness" few players possess with the ball in their hands. He'll learn how to play in the next few years, and when that happens, he'll be able to dismantle defenses because of his ability to blow by defenders at the right time. He owns lots of similarities to Kevin Durant. For a point guard, Exum has size (6-foot-5) and quickness advantages, just as Durant possesses as a wing.

Funny how two players who didn't perform amazingly during the summer league but are still both very young, very raw, but also very talented, can have such completely different write ups. With Gordon it's about how "awful" he looks, and if we will regret passing up on Exum. However, with Exum it says who cares about his performance and even brings up how he's a Durant like talent. Gotta love ESPN.

The gym crackled.

Maybe that was just the seafood buffet from the night before.

Everyone has an opinion. ESPN is no different than us other than the fact that they get paid to do this. Anyone who watched the summer league will come away more impressed by what Elfrid did than what Dante did. I know we got the right guy. We had both guys in for a workout yet we passed on Exum. Remember that you can not teach drive and motivation. Go Magic!!!

I know we're all excited about our young guys, but man, watching this Blue White scrimmage makes me jealous about some of the stars out there.
