its ok to be suprised I was too.. but cmon if youre disappointed. Almost every single reputable mock draft I saw had Gordon going to Utah or Boston. This wasnt a reach. We drafted the best athlete in the draft who is also a hard worker that fits a need. And I think he has a bit more up his sleeve than he had in college
Dante who?? Smart who?? We have Payton now

no way the magic are giving up meer. The team needs some vet leadership and he is as good as it comes as a mentor.
Also I believe gordon will be a sf, but will take the defense on opposing pf when playing next to harris. Apparently Elfrid was killing the workout circuit against smart and others and was displaying his improved shot. Imagine the opposing teams pg/sg faces when they have to face these two (dipo/payton)
Cant wait until we play utah. WIll be fun.

I think everything that went down today says that we keep Nelson. We need a Vet on this team and Elfrid can spend one season learning from Jameer and coming off the bench. If we drafted Exum then i would agree that it would be better to cut or trade Nelson.

Saw this real quick on ESPN at work and shrugged my shoulders until I realized Gordon was an athletic guy. I thought he was a big plodder for some reason. Didn't connect his name.
The draft is a crapshoot. Let's enjoy the athleticism next year and see what happens. I also like how we can pick the best free agent available since we have no positions of need right now.
Definitely need to keep a hardworking vet around for these young guys. I thought Hennigan was going to keep Afflalo against all expectations because of that very thing, but I guess not.

What good will it do us when Gordon shoots FT at 42% and Payton at 59%?

I like this defensive and athletic magic team but we are still 1 or 2 stars away to contend.
With lots of cap space, I am looking forward to free agents for our stars. Go Magic!

The Magic got to see more of Exum then probably any team in the league. They passed on him. They either saw this as a very deep PG draft and knew they could get their man later, or they knew he wasn't worth the hype.

Re: Official Draft Thread 3: Picks #4 and #12
So, I'm not much of a college basketball viewer. I can only believe the hype I hear on the boards. I was shocked we didn't take Exum, because that's who I was lead to believe Orlando would pick. Obviously we had NO idea who Orlando really liked, we can only speculate, and be wrong 100% of the time.
We drafted two positions that we were in desperate need of, PF and PG. The board here seems to love, love, love Payton. Hennigan clearly valued Payton more than Exum. If you loved Exum because he was a "Henny Guy", then you should be even more enamored with Payton, and wash any pain away that you might have for Gordon.
Can someone educate me a little more on Gordon? He seems to be a fantastic athlete, a great defender, and can actually shoot a little bit. Isn't that what we were all looking for? A young, explosive PF who can be the Thunder to Vuc's Lightning?

The pick Orlando traded to Cleveland comes up after this one.
Terrible trade for justin harper and hopefully the bleeding from it ends after #32

I like smart and exum more than payton, but I like payton at 12 (with extra protected pick thrown in) better than smart/exum at 4. . .even though smart is my favourite player in the draft
Gordon. . .im not sure about offensively

Be nice when the picks involved are clarified but it looks Magic lose that Philly pick and maybe 2nds were swapped.
Exactly what I think.
I am really surprised we took Gordon over Exum. I do think Gordon can be very, very good. He's got some Joakim in him for sure. I thought we needed to get our go-to scorer in this draft and we clearly didn't. I hope Vic can make a big jump next year and maybe him, Vooch and Tobes can carry us offensively because we are going to be HURTING for offense other than that. Looks like another lottery year. I love getting a defensive identity and I do like both players we added but I worry that we missed a stud in Exum. We'll see in another year or two.

Re: Official Draft Thread 3: Picks #4 and #12
Doubt he will still be there, but I would love to get Nick Johnson with the #56 pick. Not only did we work him out but we'd be reuniting him with Gordon. He could be a pretty decent 5th guard on the team.

I'm just glad that Hennigan got the guys he wanted(outside top 3). He obviously had Gordon as his #1 PF and passed on Exum/Smart knowing he could get Payton.

I meant #33.
Justin Harper's number #32 confused me.
