Love the exposure this story is garnering.

my link not cool enough?

anyhow, this is kind of new right here..

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20100623_NBA___Hornets_pin_plans_on_Paul.html#axzz0rf2DjEV3

Monty Williams would rather not contemplate making his NBA head coaching debut without all-star point guard Chris Paul.

So with trade talks intensifying in the final days before the NBA draft, Williams made it clear Tuesday that he expects the New Orleans Hornets to turn down whatever offers they get for their biggest star.

"Chris was the main thing that excited me about this job," Williams said Tuesday. "So many people are begging for a point guard. You're talking about the best one in the game. I couldn't envision being here without Chris."

The Hornets have the 11th overall pick in Thursday night's draft and likely could move up if they decided to deal their three-time all-star.

Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said he had received many calls about possible trades but declined to be more specific.

Bower said: "I can guarantee that we are very much aware of Chris' abilities, skills, talents, and what he provides to our community and what he provides to our basketball team - and we don't take that lightly."

Bower's last statement kind of sums it up that he's been in discussion with a plethora of teams and doesn't seem as firm as Monty on CP3. Bower seems kind of in denial, though he's exploring every avenue there is, just hope the main avenue is Orlando's :D

I doubt CP3 gets traded to be honest. I think we have a good enough PG in Nelson. What the Magic need to get is a legit starting PF. If they do that and don't lose to much depth, they will be in the finals next year.

backasswards wrote:there is absolutely no way jameer wins 6th man of the year playing behind collison. he would need to average close to 30 minutes a game in order to put up 6th moty numbers and i don't see that happening. he would certainly provide a nice scoring punch off the bench of when collison will be eating up most of the minutes at the point, jameer's playing time will decrease significantly.

also, i like mp starting over redick at the 2 spot simply because he's a better wing defender and if we move lewis to the 3 we would need that defensive player in the starting lineup and redick simply isn't that guy. i think redick's shooting and bball iq would be better suited coming off the bench.

i guess we may never know about Meer being 6th man of the year. i think he's got the potential to be that guy for sure. he scores in bunches, and doesnt need 30 minutes to go on an all out offensive. in fact he'd probably be better served not playing long minutes.

as for an MP/Redick battle, i've really fallen off the MP bandwagon. he's great when he shows up for a playoff series, but outside of that he's too inconsistent, too prone to becoming a chucker and his defense is often overrated.

i think, with JJ in the S/L, defensively we'd have CP3 defending the other team's dominant ball handler, and all JJ would have to do is stick to his man - which he has proven to do night in and night out - to take them out of their game. besides, if Lewis is playing the 3 then that means we'd have 2 bigs backing JJ up, so dribble penetration is less of a concern. sure, there may be a few opposing SG's who can physically dominate him, but people have long had concerns about Jameer being a defensive liability and the only time that really cost us was against Derek Fisher. Meer even held his own against Rondo. it's not beyond JJ to play that well either.

i just think what he brings to the table far outweighs what he takes from it.

It's nice exposure, but everything points to this not happening, as New Orleans wants a top pick in return. I can't see a 3rd team getting involved without something awesome coming their way.

Otis never shows his hand, so I would say the rumor could very well have some validity, especially after reading what CP had to say to ESPN.
My first choice is to be in New Orleans. I just want to make sure we're committed to winning. If we're not committed to winning and trying to get better so we can contend with the Lakers, the Celtics and all these other top teams, then I'm open to being traded.

I love the rumor and would be happier than anyone here if it happened. I still think it has no better that a 20% chance of happening. That's more of a chance then I would have given it a week ago.

Chris Paul, day 3. Dun dun dunnnnn.

While we're at it, somebody show me a Celtics-like scenerio where we land CP3 AND Boozer except we don't give up Dwight.

I can think of one reason why the Hornets would want to trade Paul. And this article appears to support it.

Coming off what he calls "the longest stretch of my career," New Orleans guard Chris Paul is making slow progress in his rehabilitation from numerous injuries and is eager to play for new Hornets coach Monty Williams.

Chatting briefly from a cart before playing in a celebrity golf tournament in his home state on Monday, Paul glanced a couple times at his surgically repaired left knee and said he's still been unable to get on the floor because of injuries that kept him out of 37 games last season.

Paul suffered a sprained left ankle in November, then underwent surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He sat out the final four games of the season with a torn ligament in his right middle finger.

Jameer, who most people here call injury-prone, he has missed an average of just three more days a year than Paul has. Jameer recovers ahead of schedule, and apparently Paul recovers slowly. But, hey! he's as big a star as say ... Grant Hill!

now, i don't anticipate this lineup at all, just did it to highlight contracts. S/L would be worth about 65mil just on its own. it's expensive, but a championship would make it all worthwhile. who knows, maybe we can parlay Okafor on to the Knicks for Curry's expiring after they're done wheeling in dealing?

Well, Bostons starting line up last year that made it to the finals was $62 mil. And i believe that was with Rondo still on his rookie contract. So that line up, with the right bench play, could very well bring the team to the finals. The weak point so to speak of the Celtics, Perkins, gave them 10 pts, 8 rebs a game and solid defense. Okafor could provide the same thing. basically little more than a bucket a quarter, with some FT's, while providing strong defense. A lot to pay, but ive seen worse lineups.

What if we trade VC and Jameer for CP3 and Posey, and then Bass, Gortat, and Pietrus for Boozer.

CP3/JWill?
JJ/FA or Rookie
Rashard/Posey
Boozer/Anderson
Dwight/Vet FA

Eh? Plug that into your 2k10 and smoke it.

that would be nice, and i could see Utah doing that for Boozer as he was leaving in a S&T, but no way NOH takes only Nelson+VC for Paul and Posey. I think the only way Paul leaves is someone taking Posey and Okafor with them.

Even if we have to take on Okafor and Posey, I do it in a second. 'Meka isn't Boozer, but he'd still be a great traditional four man next to Dwight. If we somehow had a starting lineup of Paul/Redick/Lewis/Okafor/Howard, that probably makes us the favorites for the title no matter what happens in free agency. Even if Chicago added LeBron and Bosh, we're still right there with them.

It would have to be something like Nelson, Carter, Gortat, picks for Paul, Okafor, Posey. Saves New Orleans about $30 million. Still don't understand why they would trade Paul, but these rumors seem to have legs...

Hopefully the only game that Hornets ownership saw the Magic play last season was VC's 48 point game against them.

With how cursed this franchise is, it wouldn't surprised me one bit if we acquire Paul and he never recovers from that knee injury.

Not sure if this has been posted here or not, I didn't really look that hard so apologies in adavance. Anyway, apparently, VC and Jameer were offered, Otis of course denied which means the rumor is true. there's a Chris Broussard video where he talks about the situation in NO.

I would attempt to do a back flip if Otis lands Paul.
