If this is the status quo going into next season I'll predict 48 wins. Howard will play at a superstar level, Ayon at a borderline all star level in limited minutes, Redick and Nelson at a solid starter level, JRich at a quality rotation player level, and the rookies, Duhon, and Baby at a below average level.

It would appear that Henny's pitch to Howard is to not to focus on this off-season/next year, but the following off-season. It would be build something lasting and not the way we did previously with Otis, swapping pieces in/out season after season.

Better hope the rumors of Jameer's contract aren't true then. Cause I don't see how we have a lot of cap flexibility next offseason if we can't dump Hedo's contract on someone without trading Dwight.

Yes -- Jameer would be the ONLY reason we wouldn't have cap space.

Besides, as someone else pointed out, since his last season is not fully guaranteed, one could view his almost as 2 year contract only - or one that could be traded as an expiring.

Same thing with Hedo & Duhon, they are only partially guaranteed for the following season.

He got paid 5 million for his production and the rest for loyalty/leadership...he and BBD should be our captains this season regardless if Howard stays or goes. People saying we should have signed all these other PGs, last time i checked we had no cap space...It is only a two year contract basically so get over it.

I will remind you next summer.
Even though you ppl claim we aim for 2014.

dude
I would resign him and reward for being a good soldier...
hell ...give him 120 mil a year XD( I dont care its not from my pocket)...as long its a one year deal...not 2-3
this season is lost no matter what roster we assemble...so I really dont care
but we outbid ourselves again...
none would give him better contract :o
lets keep overpaying and outbid ourselves...
Im sure it will help
we propably have most expensive pair of medicore pgs in the league locked for next 2-3 years

Wow! I must have completely misunderstood Jameer's contract: I thought he had an $8M contract for next year, which he ETO'd out of for that same $8M plus an extra year at $8M to be a glue guy for a young team if the Magic went that way, plus an unspecified amount for a possible third year. I didn't realize this was a brand new, whole $24M hit to the cap!

When was the last time the Magic traded an expiring contract for something without legs? In other words, when was the last time we saved salary cap space by trading an expiring for draft picks or cash? If you've got Jameer's expiring, why would a team want it without sending back other contracts in return? What about Hedo?

Monta Ellis' HS coach told me if #Magic want Ellis, they've got competition, Sixers like Monta too, just saying #Orlando #Bucks #Sixers

The Magic are forever alone. Iggy for Monta makes way more sense than anything we can give.

I don't know why you guys are hating on Nelson's contract so much. His third year is only 2.8M guaranteed. So that's like a team option for the third year, we can even ship him as an expiring. We don't need the cap flexibility to sign the big FA anyways if we are rebuilding the next 2 years.

Not sure you know how this works, but if you trade Jameer, Hedo or Duhon as expirings, then you're getting matching salary back. So how exactly does that clear up our cap space?

Teams under the cap like DAL and ATL next year won't be looking to help us clear cap by absorbing those players either. Especially when they will most likely be trying for the same top tier FAs that we would be trying to get. They won't be doing us any favors.

What I mostly find hilarious is that even as a die hard Jameer supporter, even YOU realize/hope that his contract will be a valuable expiring trade chip. LOL.

Where is the information on his 2.8 mil guarantee? I was the one who initially posted that he was making 8.6, 8.6, and then 2.5 million guaranteed in the final year based only on my thoughts that we'd heard 19.7 million and 8.6+8.6+2.5=19.7. That was just my thinking. Pincus may or may not have posted my tweet with that information in his timeline, but it was never written anywhere except for me posting it as my own idea.

Multiple Orlando reporters have contacted posters here informing them they've not been able to verify Jameer's contract numbers and no one in the FO is talking.

It wasn't necessary to give him 8.5 a year. 6.5 was probably better, but look at it this way, we are not winning anything when we trade Dwight, so we aren't pulling in any big Free Agents even with quite a lot of caproom. And next year, other teams can view him as a 7 Million expiring, which is quite a trade piece. It could have been better, but he's not the disaster all of you are making him out to be.

I believe Hennigan overpaid Nelson during the first two years INTENTIONALLY!!! Think about it...

Orlando wasn't going to have money to spend on free agents (besides their own and the exceptions) so who cares about this year? However, with the widely believed reports that his third year is only guaranteed to less than $3M, next season he is almost as good as an $8M+ expiring contract.

We overpay him for the first two years to get him to agree to a non-guaranteed 3rd year while also giving ourselves a bigger trade chip for next season. If we had signed him to $5M a year with a partially guaranteed 3rd year, then that likely isn't enough of a drop off for teams looking to cut salary. Now teams can get a nice spark plug 6th man for 2013 as well as shed $5-6M in salary for 2014.

Too early to tell, but probably a project player and a first round pick. Or a piece in a larger trade.
