We weren't going to win anytime soon regardless so who really cares? It's about us and only us. All we are trying to do now is tank and build from scratch. Period. **** what the Lakers do.
using 'the bigger picture' as an excuse for not winning now is a convenient way of copping out. it's always been about us and only us. in the big picture, we've failed year after year for 23 years. in the big picture, we've lost the 2 best big men of their generations. that was us and only us ruining our bigger picture. teams are only given the windows of opportunities that their players permit them. a long term vision that involves a several bad years to build from scratch is just as risky as taking on players who are capable of playing now, but who might not be of the same star quality as the LeBron's and Durant's of the league. the big difference is that one gives a fan something to cheer about in the short term.
btw, i'm not saying what you're saying is wrong, and i'm not saying that one approach is right or wrong. i think each team has a duty to its fans to put the best team on the court that it can, year in and year out. sadly, that's not how it works, because if a team does that it hampers its ability to improve by ruining its chances at a good draft pick.
