He's not overrated, he's been an excellent offensive threat on one dimensional teams. He may not be Isiah Thomas, but he's no scrub either. Give credit where credit is due.

It'd be tough scheming for Monta and Dwight down the stretch, not necessarily impossible to defend, but awfully difficult, especially if there's a 3pt shooter in the line up.

It's too early to tell yet it's valuable to have an expiring contract? Who is going to give us a project player and a first round pick for Jameer Nelson? No one would give us a 1st round pick to take Jameer off our hands without sending us worse contracts in return.

Monta is pretty good compliment to Dwight, especially if he can figure out where Dwight likes to get the ball in the post. I just don't want to engage myself much into all these talks because i know that they will be shot down soon. Now we wait for the outcome of the Henny-Judas meeting.

A contending team that wants to make a run in free agency.

Ellis and Dwight would be a fantastic offense / defense combo. I don't like the idea of Ellis as a max contract, face of the franchise type of player but I believe that the combination of Ellis and Dwight could be fantastic. If you could add a lock down defender at SF (to handle the Lebron James, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony's of the world) then who cares if players shoot over Ellis? Dwight will limit their ability to drive to the hoop and with a lock down perimeter defender, we essentially turn them into a low % jump shooting team. Ellis can take over offensively and keep the pressure on opponents to hit those jumpers. When teams get hot, this strategy would backfire but how many teams can get that hot from 3-pt land four times in a seven game series?

Ellis isn't overrated. A one two of Ellis and Howard is pretty lethal they'd have to have the right players around them.

+1
Got to get D12 a perimeter scorer that can create for himself and others.

I still think that a dream lineup would've been

CP3
Redick
Iggy
Anderson
Howard

But Monta can 'potentially' try and replicate the role CP3 would do, much worse obviously but still, we would still need a lock down defender like Tony Allen or such, then 2 good 3 point shooters. This would be a great formula

So that's like a team option for the third year, we can even ship him as an expiring. We don't need the cap flexibility to sign the big FA anyways if we are rebuilding the next 2 years.

So you're telling me that you don't think he got overpaid at all?

It wasn't necessary to give him 8.5 a year. 6.5 was probably better, but look at it this way, we are not winning anything when we trade Dwight, so we aren't pulling in any big Free Agents even with quite a lot of caproom. And next year, other teams can view him as a 7 Million expiring, which is quite a trade piece. It could have been better, but he's not the disaster all of you are making him out to be.

...what kind of player do you think we would land in a trade for Jameer? I think that idea is a mirage for all you who think we're gonna get a core player in exchange for him.

Toronto sent a guaranteed lottery pick to Houston for Kyle Lowry. I like Lowry as a solid player, but don't mistake him for Chris Paul. You honestly believe that there isn't a playoff team with a #20-30 pick out there that wouldn't love to have Nelson come off the bench for a season?

Already answered that, a playoff team looking to make a run in free agency would probably send us a project player and a first or something.

I believe Hennigan overpaid Nelson during the first two years INTENTIONALLY!!! Think about it...

Orlando wasn't going to have money to spend on free agents (besides their own and the exceptions) so who cares about this year? However, with the widely believed reports that his third year is only guaranteed to less than $3M, next season he is almost as good as an $8M+ expiring contract.

We overpay him for the first two years to get him to agree to a non-guaranteed 3rd year while also giving ourselves a bigger trade chip for next season. If we had signed him to $5M a year with a partially guaranteed 3rd year, then that likely isn't enough of a drop off for teams looking to cut salary. Now teams can get a nice spark plug 6th man for 2013 as well as shed $5-6M in salary for 2014.

Interesting take. I could buy that.

Will we not see more bad contracts because of the Cap% mandate in the new cba? what is it this year? And doesn't it go up each year to max out at like 85%.

Besides we weren't under the cap enough or at all to grab FA PGs, right? How pissed would you guys be if Duhon was the only PG under contract? Overpaid? probably, but he didn't have to stay and could have F'd us further so whatever. I am happy to have him.

Nelson,deadbody
JJ,Jrich,Qrich,Liggins
Turk,Clark,Harper
Nicholson,BBD(yeah i'd start Nicholson if he could handle it)
Howard,Ayon,(hopefully O'Quinn)

We all know having an actual backup center will help out greatly. That team could win 50+ and contend with SVG...

Project players usually don't match up to $8.6M dollars.

Sounds like Royce White signed with the Rockets today? Don't know about the other rookies.

I thought we established that Jones never signed with the Rockets and that the RealGM site is wrong.

Someone who has ~6.5 in contracts (likely vets) that they want to clear off the books. Some team that is rebuilding or who needs to get out under the new CBA taxes/penalties (which get rolled in in a couple of seasons, iirc).
