You really need to stop defending hennigan, face it he blew this one and that much is obvious. Karl was willing to coach just about anywhere and he took the first job that was available. You seriously cant be happy with this can you? Missing out on george karl for the opportunity to give borrego another shot and possibly replace him with a retread coach?

Karl must have been in it more for the money. Kings have Cousins and Rudy Gay who is approaching 30 on their roster and nobody else really. I would take our young talent over their roster.

He's older, and most likely looking at the immediate 3-4 year contract window.

Our starting core of Cousins, Gay, Collison and McLemore played at a high level prior to Cousins meningitis illness and the coaching change which unsettled the players. They were 9-6 in the west, and their losses were of the ilk of losing 24 or more point leads in Dallas and Memphis.

A lot of Kings fans think we can do damage with better coaching, a better surrounding cast around the 4 starters, and cohesion

That's not to say Orlando doesn't have an impressive young squad which plays in a less tough conference. Just that it could come down to personal ties and preference

We didn't get Karl. I think the best word I can summon to express my feeling on that is... meh.

I, for one, had high expectations for the Kings this year. Sorry to see it didn't happen. Hopefully, things finally turn around for ya'll.

He showed interest in us and we didnt bother contacting him. He took the only job offered to him.

I believe Karl would have considered Orlando as a second option if the Kings deal had fell through. He wasn't leading the Magic on or using us as leverage. We were simply his second choice and he ended up getting his first. There's nothing to be sour about.

If we didn't contact him, how do you know we were his first, second, third, etc option?

Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy criticized the Sacramento Kings for their treatment of Ty Corbin while negotiating a contract with George Karl to replace him as head coach, David Mayo of MLive.com reports.

"I think it's an unfortunate situation, the way it's been handled," Van Gundy said. "I think Tyrone Corbin has been treated very, very poorly by their organization. I think the way they have treated him is unfortunate and inexcusable for one of the real class acts in our business."

Was he not in negotiations with the Kings prior to us firing Vaughn? To think that we would suddenly skyrocket ahead of them is naive in my opinion. Like it or not, Orlando is considered a second rate team. The Karls/Jacksons of the world do not pick us as a first option when there are more prestigious jobs available. No amount of talent on our roster will change that. We just need to find a way to take the next step without a big named coach, get to the next level (regular playoff success) and go from there.

No. He showed interest in the Kings earlier in the year when Malone was fired, but the Kings did not call him. We fired Vaughn, he showed interest in us for a couple days and then revealed we didn't get in touch with him. Then the Kings got in touch with him and started negotiations. Hennigan either wasn't interested and/or he is prioritizing the lottery over the coaching search.

You're right. I had my dates mixed up and misinterpreted the headline "Kings Moving Closer To Deal With George Karl" as though things had been ongoing. My mistake.

Best of luck to the Kings. I wanted Karl, so it will be interesting to see how quickly he can turn that team around. Thanks for the thoughts.

Coincidence the Kings are suddenly looking harder for a coach? Nah, they're feeling the heat as Orlando is now direct competition for leading candidates. If Hennigan wants Karl, he should pounce NOW. Just like Payton, let the Kings make another mistake passing on Karl and putting him on hold earlier in the season.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. I just hope Karl isn't using us to force the King's hand. Wouldn't be the first time we've been used for leverage.

Just wanted to quote myself on page two. I'm not sure he played us, but certainly he took advantage of a situation.

In other news, is it now Stan's job to comment on every coaching change?
