My trip to the Raptors board was depressing, to say the least.

I've never seen a fanbase do a quicker 180 on a prospect than they have with Suggs. Saw a post with 21 And1's comparing him to Lawson, Ntilikina, Mudiay, Exum, Burke. I decided I had enough after that and logged off.

Barnes was the consensus #5 pick, it wasn't that much of a reach at 4. Just seems unnecessary to go to such lengths to trash a prospect solely to try and justify their own selection. Their fanbase has done the same thing under Suggs/Barnes-related content on Youtube/Twitter as well.

Raps have a pretty emo fanbase. They do 180s on a dime all the time. I do have concerns about Suggs' shot as well, but this was a total no brainer pick at #5. No way you guys could pass on this dude. A little bit of duplication with what the Magic already have, but who cares. This was a great value pick.

I was playing Basketball earlier at the Esporta on Goldenrod rd by Lake Underhill and when this dude that looked kinda like Jalen Suggs scored, I yelled several times JALEN SUGGS. As we were leaving the gym, he said he's his cousin.

Most fanbases do this.

Overreact then start to devalue whoever they wanted in order to justify the other guy.

In reality, it could easily work out for them so they shouldn't have been so depressed in the first place, but then they swing all the way to the other side.

i mean....what do you expect brodie....things be like that when you go through those 7 stages....now for the most part they've past that acceptance stage and all that is part of it....they have to go that far to convince themselves that it was the right choice and that's fine....honestly would it be different if the shoe was on the other foot? For me i can care less because we got Suggs and a player comparable to Barnes in Wagner except he's probably more ready to contribute right away than Barnes is now and he's younger

Not to start up what we've been reading for the past few weeks, but you'd have a lot more people agreeing that Suggs was the consensus #4 than you would find certain that Barnes was top 5 (many many many more questions about Barnes' place in the NBA)...Not reverse sour grapes - if we had Barnes today, we'd still be a bit concerned while excited. No such questions with Jalen Suggs.

They can trash Suggs all they want. I personally don’t see anyone who will be better than him that was picked afterwards.

For me it's kinda funny, instead of questioning whether barnes is better than suggs they might need to question whether he's better than wagner lol....right now, head to head...stat for stat is barnes better than wagner? in terms of things we can quantify i'm not sure that's an easy answer...Instant reaction you might say barnes but if you break it down it may not be the case

I don’t get it I think the vast majority think Barnes is a pretty good prospect but just not a great fit for us. I think they both will have great careers no reason to tear down one because you passed on him
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

LOL tell me about it. They had their #46 pick David Johnson being compared to Jalen Suggs..like they have a taller and better Jalen Suggs with him

Oh trust me, when they got the #4 they were all( majority fine ) at Suggs and trashing Barnes, Kuminga and whoever we will pick. Now that they took Barnes, they did a complete 180 and practically declared Suggs persona non grata and Barnes the savior.

Yup.. they went through the stages pretty quick... the DENIAL and ANGER was done in 1-2 threads in less than 24 hours lol... so in less than 48 hours they finished it all and moved on to their " we didn't want him anyway " stage?

Sheeeeesh I kept asking if we did that when we took Okeke instead of NAW. lol

You hit it right in the head. If other teams had just experienced what we had gone through ( uber-athletes with long arms and zero shots ) then they would also have PTSD with Barnes. If we didn't have the bad experience of Bamba, Wes, Melvin, etc then I honestly think a lot of us would jump for joy at Barnes.

To an extent, but the behavior I've seen from their fanbase is whatever else I've seen from other fanbases this draft x10. Maybe it's just the sheer size of the fanbase, but anywhere I go whether it be Youtube, Twitter, etc that has anything Suggs/Barnes related I see their fanbase flooding the comments with something along the lines of "Trust Masai" or a jab at Suggs.

Pretty fragile/bizarre behavior in my book. Just thought I'd point it out though, I'm moving on.

I share concerns about Suggs’ true ceiling but those concerns were being pushed hard when we were talking about a trade up to #3 and deciding between Mobley and Suggs.

At #5 with our own pick and Cade+Green+Mobley+Barnes off the board there is no question on who to take. You take Suggs 11 times out of 10.

It is what it is, i can't fault them for it....In my opinion their GM overthought it and took a big swing....now they have to get on board....Masai in their words have earned their trust so they are going to trust him and get behind barnes....Doesn't make a lick of sense to me but i guess the idea is to chase the ghost of Giannis which to me is fools errand players like Giannis don't come around often or at all since i haven't seen anyone like him....i guess time will tell, we'll know in a few years

Well I dunno what their FO is thinking too. But yeah I think they went for the homerun pick as well... will it pay-off? Who knows. MAybe they were doing it because they are trading Siakam and the G they are envisioning is in the trades not the draft.
