Reggie Miller said it really wasn't a dunk, but a throw down.

And proceeded to comment that it's incredible that Dwight was that high to perform a throw in.

hey now, be fair, he said "i'm not sure that was a dunk". Upon checking the definition, Reggie would change his mind. :)

I'm just reporting what he said as how it pertains to this thread. My opinion is that the dunk-off is pure exhibition, so some give is to be expected. Plus, he was higher than the rim, and to some extent that's a dunk - a variation from the typical, and hitherto fore plain, dunk.

Quite frankly (no I'm not doing my SAS impression) it was a lot more Superman like than a "plain" dunk. Only thing to make it even more Superman like would be if he threw it down and the glass shattered.

The only problem is that it was indeed a dunk, unless you can show a definition where grabbing the rim is required.

It was awesome... Im giving Dwight some major cool points for that... Combined with the dance contest last year, he looks like he has the most fun out there.

I don't recall Reggie being the foremost leader in dunking. He tried once but Tayshaun roofed him. Who are Dr. J, Magic, Barkley, Dawkins, Karl Malone, and Wilkins to argue with Reggie Miller about dunks?

Who cares, the throw in was more of a statement to show how high he was...we all know he can do the 'dunk' so who gives a **** if he didn't touch the rim?

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Soul Im stealing your sig and the sentence cause it explains it perfectly as it really was a throwdown-dunk to me.

What ever people want to call it, to me that was the most unhumanly, xboxish, amazing DUNK I have ever witnessed in my life. I just cant get it off my mind.

How can a human being take off and in the mid air grab the ball and have the most rediculous coordination to throw down the ball two feet away from the basket and yet make it look like it was nothing out of the ordinary.

My jaw was on the floor and I just couldnt believe what i saw.

okay, everyone can argue over the definition of dunk...but seriously, come on. we all know the definition of dunk, and it's slamming it down, hanging off the rim...not a glorified layup. we all know that if he attempted that dunk without the goofy cape and superman shirt, he wouldn't have scored half of what he scored.

and...not only did he NOT dunk it, he didn't even jump from where he put the tape down! he jumped from in front of it...i find it hard to believe that a dude as tall as he is can't jump from the spot he taped and at least touch the rim.

dwight should be thanking the media for convincing fans that his superman layup was "the best dunk ever"(esp. kenny "the jet" screaming "it's over!!" after the first dunk! kenny's a tool.), and that the dunk competition is back...it's more gone than it ever was before.

sorry for ranting, and i know you are all absolutely thrilled about dwight's success this past weekend (i don't blame you at all, and congratulations by the way :) ) but everytime i see dwight with his cape on, and then compare it to dunk competitions past such as MJ and Vinsanity, i throw up in my mouth to think how the media proclaimed it "the best dunk competition EVER".

please.

I can't believe this thread is still alive. Take this crap to the general board. At this point who cares anymore anyway?
