The Magic are going to look to acquire something nice for Marcin Gortat.

Him, Jameer Nelson, future first round picks and a player like Bass, Anderson or Pietrus would likely be in any deal.

If the Magic get Paul, they would be set up with a 1-2 punch like The Lakers have in Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol for years to come.

It does sound like the sale is falling apart and if it does, it could mean the end of basketball in New Orleans. Heak, moving Paul would go a long way towards doing that.

All I've heard is that Chris Paul is currently the top priority for the Magic, and everything else is on hold until they determine whether that deal can be made.

Sounds good :) Unless if Otis is just looking for a way to excuse some inappropriate break time :D

the absolute best thing we can hope for is that the transfer of ownership does not go through. if the current owner still has control of the team then you can expect a deal to be made in order to cut as much salary as possible. that only helps our chances

As Nyce_1 put it on the O-Zone boards, it seems as though Otis felt a nibble from the Hornets on his offer, and is reeling in as fast as he can. He is keeping all trade assets open, because this truly would be a franchise changing deal.

Absoultely guys.

Even if it hurts you depth wise in the short-run, you do this deal as role players are easier to add then superstars.

HoMass, I know you've been able to gain access to info in the past, have you heard anything that hasn't already been stated? What is your general feeling on the likelihood of this deal happening?

It's not over until it's over

Also... if it just so happens that we nab Paul somehow... should we rule out an s&t with Cavs for Lebron? If he is set on playing with the best point and center in the league, can the Cavs really do anything about it? :P

One thing I don't really understand about the whole thing is why they would want another PG. They would be trading Paul because they have Collison for a hell of a lot cheaper. They don't need or want to invest more money in the PG position.

Wouldn't they rather have Michael Pietrus who has a player option at the end of next season? If Pietrus went to a team with a great passing PG and not much other talent, he would probably have a big year and play for a new contract. By no means do I think the talent is equal or it makes the trade seem any more fair, but if they are shedding salary...that is the way to go.

I think if they are really looking for relief, they don't want Jameer or Harris. The #3 pick is great but they really don't have much to offer outside of that, IMO.

I'm guessing that's why adding a third or fourth team would make a lot of sense... There are quite a few teams out there looking for a good and lengthy contract in Harris or Nelson for a little bit cheaper... Perhaps Otis isn't even looking to get Paul through this, but merely trying to get on in the action of moving big contracts around :-?

How about combining two different trade scenario/threads ....

Orlando sends TPE to Miami (Miami gets 3 FA)
Miami sends Beasley and the #18 to NO (NO gets a pick and young talent for relatively cheap)
NO sends Posey to MAGIC (MAGIC help Miami and NO in exchange for the second trade)

NO sends MAGIC Paul Okafor West
MAGIC send VC (semi-expiring) Nelson (young PG all-star) Peaches (young talent) and Bass (young talent) and our #29

CP3/Arenas
Arenas/JJ/MLE
Lewis/Anderson/Posey
West/Okafor/Posey
Howard/Posey

FLAME AWAY ..........

Oh yea did I forget the part where Arenas gets waived and we sign him for vet min ... :D

It'd be more than a franchise changer, it'd be a league changer. Dwight and CP are not the two best players on their own--LeBron and Kobe are still better--but together they are like Stockton and Malone on steroids. IMHO it's the best duo that could possibly play together in this league. Insanely athletic big man who can run and defend, very athletic point who runs and sees the floor better than anybody and can also score and make the big shot.

Oh, and thanks again for the info :)

Exactly what I have been saying.

You can't create a better duo than CP3+D12

Talk about a roller coaster rumor.. jeash! Can't we just make the announcement that Paul has been traded to Orlando already so that the starry eyed speculations of what D12 & CP3 on the same court wearing the same jerseys will produce nexts season can start..... please

Hornets owner shoots down Chris Paul speculation
Looks like New Orleans Hornets Owner George Shinn doesn’t like the speculation that he’d be willing to trade superstar point guard Chris Paul as part of a salary dump.

The Hornets released a statement from Shinn today in which the owner said the franchise plans to “build around Chris Paul” and that the franchise wants to see Paul “in a Hornets uniform for the remainder of his career.”

Here is the statement in its entirety:

“The resolve that my partner Gary Chouest and I have will always remain the same – to continue to build our legacy in New Orleans, and to develop a path and plan to win an NBA Championship for New Orleans and all of Louisiana. We are about building and sustaining a winning tradition.

“Chris Paul is the cornerstone of our franchise and brings us unequaled support on and off the court. We will continue to build around Chris Paul, and we want to see him in a Hornets uniform for the remainder of his career. We have an exciting future, and with the leadership of our new head coach and players like Chris Paul, we know the best is yet to come. We plan to take advantage of any opportunities to improve our team.”

Now all I can think about is MagicMamma's post...

I mean, you go for Chris Paul, but really, how is his knee. That guy makes a living of his leaping ability for rebounds, his speed for penatration and thievery. It's a concern, not that I wouldn't pull the trigger, I'm just saying I honestly haven't heard any reports on how he's doing this summer.

I'm sure Otis would make sure his knee is ok. I mean we all know what happened the last time we traded/ signed an injured player. He sat on the bench for almost 5 seasons collecting a hefty pay check. :banghead:

Rev,

If New Orleans is going to move Paul, they are going to look for the best deal possible.

Are The Magic persuing these options and other name players for a Marcin Gortat package, you better believe it.

I have my doubts that New Orleans would do this deal though.

They already would have a cheaper point guard in Darren Collison, they already have two bigmen in West and Okafor and other than that Turkoglu TPE, they do not really have any expiring deals.

While it's possible, I really have my doubts New Orleans would do this and do not think a third team would be willing to help Orlando do this.
