Am I missing some big time player that is going to make us that much better?

Have to wait and see what the team looks like on the court. You're talking about a collection of players on paper. But if you look at it more closely, you see Nelson walking the ball up the court, or dumping the ball to Afflalo to post up, or Moore with that weird style of play off the bench that didn't seem to elevate the rest of the team. Those pick-and-pop plays that ended with a Kyle O'Quinn midrange two pointer might be a three from Frye now.

It's hard to tell. No guarantees. Like I said in the other thread, at least I'm starting to see how this team might work as more than the sum of the parts.

Time to bring in a backup point guard and that will probably be our offseason.

Frye’s four-year deal will not include any team options or player options.

From Joshua Robbins article in the Orlando Sentinel.

No, you're just missing the fact that we relied heavily on Nelson, Afflalo and BBD last season and they lead us to tank loss after tank loss after our young guys made the games respectable in the 3rd quarter. We are turning the team over to our young core. Last season they deferred everything to the vets. Anybody that watched us regularly could see that. The youngsters will now either step up to the plate and develop into stars or they won't. It's not that hard to understand.

We have 13 roster spots, so 3 guys get cut. Probably between Dedmond, Osby, Marble and Curry. Guys who could slip into that group are Green and Nicholson, but unlikely. I think this is the 13 man roster:

Dipo, Payton
Fournier, B. Gordon, Green
Harris, Harkless, Osby
Frye, A. Gordon, Nicholson
Vuc, Oquinn

Cut Dedmond and Curry, send Marble to D-league.

Team can carry 15 on roster. 13 active.

Hennigan has about $9 million more to spend to meet the salary floor.

I think he signs Caron Butler to 3 years 18 million & Steve Blake to 4/14

Hopefully it's front loaded or partially guaranteed the final year.

Sometimes you have to overpay to get players to sign when they could be being pursued by contenders. Miami (or other contender) could have been offering the McBob contract to Frye and we had to top it to get him. Who knows what the market was for him. Nicholson is now odd man out.

PG: Oladipo/Payton/Curry
SG: Fournier/Gordon/Green
SF: Harris/Harkless/Marble
PF: Gordon/Frye/Nicholson
C: Vucevic/O'Quinn/Dedmon

Great mixture of offense/defense/playmaking with both units. Good depth.

If the market was that high for him, you just pass.

Tough. Here's how I'd see things shaking out with current rosters.

1. Miami
2. Indiana
3. Chicago (assume Rose is healthy)
4. Atlanta
5. Brooklyn
6. Toronto
7. Washington
8. Charlotte or Detroit
9. Charlotte or Detroit

I think we're in the mix right after that with Cleveland and New York. I think we finish 10th at best. It all depends on how much Oladipo, Harris, and Vucevic improve this year.

So we got 1 more roster spot then, and that is assuming Marble makes the team, which I imagine he does and then goes to play in the d-league. With as much cap space as we have, I doubt we sign Osby. Henny will probably bring in a veteran big man or pg to make us wind up with more old people than last year I think. The thing that scares me is that last year, Price and Maxiell were brought in and we all knew they weren't going to get minutes. Frye for sure will start, and Ben Gordon could in theory play significant minutes next season for us.

This Frye signing has really puzzled me because of Tobias. Maybe the plan is to play everyone 30 minutes like the Spurs? Somehow we'll wind up with some form of:

Oladipo/Payton
Fournier/Gordon/Marble
Harris/Harkless/
Frye/Gordon/Nicholson
Vucevic/KOQ/Dedmon

Oladipo/Payton
Gordon/Fournier/Marble
Harris/Harkless/
Frye/Gordon
Vucevic/Dedmon/KOQ

I'd feel better with Payton/Fournier/Harkless as a crew off the bench, but backup 4 and 5 are concerning to me, if we're going to go for the playoffs. Are you comfortable running Gordon/Dedmon as 1st backup bigs? Or Gordon/KOQ?
