Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVII: Offseason Editio
I'm convinced we won't be major MLE players in FA. Otis added way too much salary using it every year, and unless we can get a legit starter out of it, there is no point in using it. We'll either prepare for 2013 FA with Dwight or trade him and rebuild. If we go with the first route, we're likely looking at a similar team from last year, which would suck, but totally worth it if we can land a few studs wth Dwight.

We can give someone a 1 year deal using the MLE. I hope we do use it.

I could see the magic using the MLE on a PG depending on what happens with Jameer Nelson. Like Skin said, can always give a 1 year deal. Should Jameer opt out I would like to see Orlando use the MLE on someone like Andre Miller or Jason Kidd for 1 year.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVII: Offseason Editio
Andre Miller would be nice for one year. At least D12 would have a true PG for the 1st time.
I hope we can SnT Ryan and Nelson for something, and trade Jrich somewhere for an expiring.

Very soon could have been game 7 also. I mean, technically the NBA draft is "very soon" also. It's only 6 days away. It just depends what Henny meant by "very soon."

True, well moving on from this finals disappointment I can't wait to see what hennigan can do for us, if we go for youth movement it's going to hurt having a losing season or 2 but as long as its for the better..... I just hope we can acquire a higher pic and get "steals" in this draft

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVII: Offseason Editio
When Rob emphasized using resources to draft well and looking for a coach to develop players, I didn't take that as a sign of us going the rebuilding route. With tougher restraints on continuously adding salary, with no regard to tax, it's going to be VERY hard for teams to build through FA. With the new era laid out by the CBA, teams will HAVE to draft well and utilize that cheap talent to win. FA should be used as a means of tweaking or hitting homeruns. No more Duhon or JRich signings.
Our new GM is good at evaluating talent and he's going to hire a coach that will develop that talent to make us contenders....with DWIGHT.
my forecast: If we trade Dwight for draft picks, I don't see us being players in 2013 unless we can hit a grand slam like the HEAT. If we can't build an instant title contender, we'll preserve that cap space and truly start our rebuilding process. High lotto picks and renting that cap space out to other teams for draft picks.

Personally I took the fact that they didn't mention developing young players AROUND DWIGHT as a bad sign. I just didn't like the vibe when Howard was brought up. It wouldnt surprise me one bit if they've already known dwights decision for some time.
Of course we really wont know until the draft.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXVII: Offseason Editio
What I want to know is if Jameer can be traded. He got his extension on his opt out decision pushed till after the draft. So does this mean a team under the cap that is looking to shed salary can send Orlando a player and a pick for Jameer on draft night and then have Jameer opt out and come off their books?
For example: Jameer for Dalembert and one of Houston's 1st rounders. Houston then has Nelson opt out. Dalembert comes off the books next year so Orlando preserves that cap, but Houston gets immediate cap relief.
Not saying either team would do this, but it is an example to clarify what I am asking about above.

I think the vibe you're picking is simply an effort to not let anything out to the press with the Dwight situation. With how SVG and Otis pretty much threw Dwight under the bus with the media, if the plan is to keep Dwight, don't you think the FO will handle things differently? Even Dwight said himself that he's going to be less vocal. I'm not expecting to hear much about Dwight from here on.

QFT, just like the GM search was pretty hush hush, with only a few rumors here and there, i expect a much more tight lipped organization and this board will HATE it.

let paid professionals do their job, don't you try and do it for them...

No, it cant be done. A decision about a Team Option or Player Option must be done before, the exception are unguaranteed contracts like JJ's, he can be traded for Dalembert (as an example) and Houston can waive him after the deal.

Bad drafts have certainly contributed to some of the issues with this team. It's been a bit better in recent years though, Lee was a contributor on our Finals team and the guys like Liggins, Harper, and Orton have at least shown flashes of some potential this past season. But I'm hoping that Hennigan will look to deal and move up and get someone that can be a major contributor right away.

anyone notice how davis has become the "voice" of this team since the playoffs? he has been holding camps and talking to media all summer. also dwight is holding a camp in orlando in august. not sure he would even bother scheduling it if he had no plans of coming back next season.

You mean like the lil Orlando BBQ and Orlando Celeb Allstar game things he threw during lockout right before he requested to be traded last year?...
