Assistant coaches??? For me, it's the Dwight situation. Circle Aug 25th on your calendar.

#Magic 's [b]Jacque Vaughn has dozens of pads filled with notes he learned from Popovich, Doc Rivers, Jerry Sloan. Should help learning curve.[b]
<-----whoa! Impressive that he's been keeping notes for years.

Dwight has been said "to be traded" so often this past 8 months, that if I circle any more days on my calendar, I will have to get a sponsorship from the company that makes those markers, because I've gone through a few of them. My calendar is two times its original weight, because of all that ink.

Steve Kyler ‏@stevekylerNBA

RT @AlexKennedyNBA: Von Wafer has signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association.

I believe this happened two nights ago because Von got on twitter and was hammered talking about how much money he had in his account.

we are in great position compared to last trade deadline year when dwight was walking to brooklyn leaving us with nothing. he can't walk to BK or LA now so we should get something decent for him.

Let's be honest about the Houston rookies. While they played well in summer league, so have many nba busts. I have no doubt that if rob was ready to trade Dwight for DMo, Lamb, KMart and Tor pick, Houston would do it in a second.

Steve Kyler
There is an interesting dynamic playing out in Orlando.. and like OKC and San Antonio its no longer about individuality... its about the collective.

The GM sets a tone and establishes a cultural statement... from there the coach fits that and then you add players that fit that... and collectively you build towards the common goal.

Gone are the days of "My Way"... its the team way... this is how "we" do things.

No one can have their own agenda... everything has to fit together and it all has to line back up to the core values of the team.

Having talked at length with Sam Presti in OKC about what they are doing, its extremely interesting... Its almost like a Japanese company concept or like the military... you are a part of something bigger than yourself...embrace that and play your part.

I am not sold you can do that in professional sports... but the Spurs have made it work... the Thunder have made it work... not sold it can happen in Year 1 in Orlando, but the concepts are interesting because its not about individuality.

I'm really interested in watching the next couple of seasons play out. Just get that diva outta here. He's everything but about the team concept. Watch us get the 3rd pick next year, the first one the year after. Nerlens Noel/Andrew Wiggins.

Yup. I also fell victim to the hype but when you think about all the summer league greats, how many of them truly amounted to anything? If we're trading a top 3 player in the league, we need to get some true value in return.

I have 100% faith in Rob and trust in whatever he decides in what to do with Dwight.

What a great piece by Kyler! I'm so excited about our future! I'm excited about Hennigan and Vaughn and what they bring to the table!

I have to give major credit to Rich DeVos for envisioning this and putting this plan into action by bringing these guys in to run our team!

Now let's focus on getting Dwight Coward out of town. He doesn't deserve to play here!
I like this team

Year after year we see elite high school prospects go into their freshman year as a favorite to be the #1 overall pick and then fail to live up to the hype. So we shouldn't get too high on any draft prospects just yet. If everyone does live up to expectations (unlikely but for the sake of argument...) then without a great big man, Orlando would surely target Zeller or Noel over Muhammad. This shouldn't be too surprising as most consider Noel and Zeller to be slightly better prospects as this point.

If we can make a trade with Houston and then essentially tank the season for a high pick of our own to go along with Toronto's and others, I would love to see Orlando walk away with a young trio of:

PG: Ian Miller (late 2013 lottery pick)
SG: Jeremy Lamb (Houston trade)
F/C: Zeller or Noel (Orlando's own pick)

You have an explosive, scoring PG in the mold of Russell Westbrook to go along with a beautiful shooter and an elite big man prospect. That is a great group to build around and one which will continue to struggle for a year or two while giving Orlando more good picks to work with.

Call up Houston and get rid of Dwight!

I'm not so sure. I agree that too often high school players go to the college game and aren't as successful and bust. But, I think the Magic should just draft the best player available. The draft may be one of the few chances that the Magic get to groom a stud into a cornerstone for the franchise. So I think if Shabazz is clearly a better prospect than Noel and we don't have a center but have plenty of wing talent, I say go with Shabazz. And it goes both ways. If Noel is clearly the better prospect and we have a center, go with Shabazz. The Magic have to rely on the draft to land a horse within the next few years. They can't afford to miss out.

Where I'm coming from is that I don't think it'd be wise of the Magic to pass up on Kevin Durant for Gregg Oden, even if we have a starting SF.

idk man. if we get Dontas we probably dont need to take Noel or Zeller so we kinda do wat we did with Webber and if we cant we take a Guy to Make Our Starting Lineup Better(i mean hes easily the best wing in the draft and if i recall Hedo is the leagues worst starter at SF. Mohammed can Play both SG and SF.

I've given the Devos' lots of grief these last few weeks but they came out of this almost as best as they could have. I like the building of culture with younger guys that can grow together. The biggest test is still yet to be delivered though. Let's see what happens with Dwight.

it's easy to be "all about the team" when you're getting paid a max contract and the focal point of your team's offense - which is the most celebrated aspect of the game. i think Durant and Duncan would both be having issues, too, if they were constantly iced out of the 4th quarter and placed below the priority of streaky 3 point shots from inferior players. especially if the team lost games because of that, and the burden of that loss falls on their shoulders in the eyes of the media and masses.

i'm not saying Dwight deserves those touches, but in his head he's on the same level as Duncan and Durant as far as being a game changer. he hasn't accepted that his greatest asset is on the defensive end because he hasn't had the opportunity to really face his shortcomings as a weak 4th quarter option. Kobe needed to learn he couldn't do it all on his own before LA went out and got Gasol to help him win a ring. Dwight needs that chance too.
