Cole Anthony, Jett Howard, Gary Harris and a 2025 1st for Anfernee Simons.

That would open up 2 roster spots for the Magic, who would presumably convert Queen to a standard contract to cover one of the spots.

Portland friends, does this get it done?

I’d honestly start with Gary Cole and 1st. If they want Jett I’d take back Gary.

Yeah same. Gary for the expiring, Cole for the Scoot backup and the FRP for the sweetener. But does that match with Simons salary?

I think Jett would have to be included or they are potentially getting deeper in the luxury tax next year. The last time they were in the tax was for the 2 years after the 09 finals trip.

20.5 outgoing and 25M incoming Fanspo trade check says it’s good to go.

I would not want to give up Jett and a 1st. I'd hold onto Jett and ship out the 1st and Cole, Gary, and Caleb (or CoJo) instead (both of which have team options for next season and are essentially expirings).

If by next season we trade WCJ as well then I think we can be ok with Jetts rookie contract.

a goga-moe with JI and a rookie PF/C would stand as well.

I agree, but then next year they probably will need to make a salary shedding trade. Using a pick to do so is risky because they will need the picks to fill out our roster.

If they keep Jett and acquire Simons they are likely an apron team next year. I'm not saying if I would be OK with that or not, we are talking about ownership that has almost never gone over the luxury tax. They could try to dump Wendell or Isaac, but then they are using picks to shed salary. Then you're filling out your depth with g leaguers instead of higher upside prospects.

I believe just the two years after the finals trip ( I could be wrong) . It seems really early in this teams build to go over, but IDK what ownership is willing to do.

That’s the thought process, Goga/Moe at C and move WCJ. Magic fill bench with 1st round pick and use one of the 2 seconds.

I’m pretty sure there’s a date we have to be under tax by but don’t know it off top of my head.

Simons/AB
Suggs/KCP
Franz/TDS/Jett
Paolo/Isaac
Goga/Moe

Deep Bench 1st round pick, Queen, 2025 2nd, Caleb H. There’s your 15.

One of the reasons a lot of fans like me support the ownership-type of our team is because we have never "pinch-penny" when it comes to spending. In the early 2000s we read a lot of news of owners letting go or refusing to sign "stars" that wants to be on their team because of the cost in luxury tax. Then we had those mind-boogling Ra$$$hard signing and etc.

So yeah, I never worry about our team spending when it comes to the goal.

Jett is the backbreaker then?

I thought 25m coming in for us and 20m for you is what your aim was? ( salary)

Please.... send Caleb to china or somewhere else.

Also, sad to say we aren't benching KCP but its fine, we need the firepower of Simons in the 2nd unit

Caleb would be needed for his small salary which is only 2M. Have to get to 15 player number.

Potato potahto one of Suggs and Simons should always be on the court outside of a few minutes here/blowout.

More I look into this I don’t see a way the FO moves for Simons. I’m not even sure he’s available and his salary doesn’t fit with us since we paid KCP and WCJ lol

A smaller hit like Sexton at 19 makes it a bit easier for Orlando to deal with.

Also like MagicMatic/VFX has said we haven’t made a trade since 2021. I doubt this FO makes one and sits still per usual. Once again we play the hypothetical game of what if.

This is where I'm at. I mean we have discussed the player a million times, I'm just thinking if it's something the FO would do. Potentially going into the the luxury tax (they could make moves to get out obviously, but puts you with unfavorable leverage) for Simons does not feel likely to me, but we'll see. I do like the player fit.

He's an 18% cap hit. That's an average team's 3rd highest paid player. He's no where near good enough to be an average team's 3rd highest paid player. He's even further away from being a playoff contender's third highest paid player.

He's overpaid. By a lot. There's no way his next contract is anywhere near an 18% cap hit. He'll take a relative salary decrease and most likely an absolute one as well.

We can afford to overpay right now, we have the cap sheet of a tanking team. By the time he's due an extension though we'll have your more typical cap sheet and have no stomach to overpay anyone.

Simons on a fully healthy Magic squad would EASILY be our 2nd or 3rd best offensive player. I’ve got Franz as #1 and I would have to debate between Paolo and Simons offensive game to be honest.

lol crazy talk

I mean it's fine if you think that we shoot so bad that it makes him really valuable to us, but that shouldn't change his value at 27 million in the league as a whole.

Typically his TS% is much higher around the .580, which is better than avg, he has started off slow this year. Regardless the TS% is such a terrible thing to look at for Simons if he plays for the Magic especially with Franz and Paolo already here. The TS% only tells you how good you are at getting points not necessarily how good of a shooter you are. Simons has been a near 40% shooter from 3 for most of career, that is what the Magic need for him.

Did something change? I thought there was very little chance Simons got traded (although I thought otherwise).

Jett barely plays as it is. Even when he plays he really not a difference maker. I just don’t understand the love affair with that guy.

Return to Orlando Magic
