It was a heavy price to pay, but you're also panicking a little bit.

Bane has averaged 5.4 assists per game over the last two years combined.

It feels a good bit unfair to label him as a "3PT shooting specialist" - he can do more than that.

He was an allstar caliber player on competitive teams too. People seem to forget that.

Kind of a joke tbh.

The Magic needs a quality backup SG and a quality backup SF. The team suffered severly last year to deficiencies in both.

As it stands:
CoJo (if resigned at vet min)
Black
Howard
Houstan
TdS
Isaac
Goga
Wagner (if resigned, but I don't see it happening, Moe won't accept what we can afford)

Without Moe, it's an offensive black hole. They'll have to bolster it offensively.

But Bane is a damn good player. I'd have traded Suggs for him straight up so I have to acknowledge he's a big get. Hope the fit works MULTIPLES better than the failed KCP experiment.

Bane is a lot better as an initiator and scorer, so it should be much much better.

Bane and KCP are night and day on offense.

Trae Young and Lamelo Ball both had some high negatives.

if you think he is going to get some injury and that Orlando is fated to fail, why not just go cheer for another team? this team even right now can legit compete for a top-4 seed.

No, my “worse fear” is that we’d use these assets to not get a point guard which is the most vital position that we need on this team. The other part of the injury concerns is just how it goes here. It gives me Grant Hill vibes. 2023-2024 was the first time in 5 years where injury wasn’t a huge concern and because Bane had healthy issues as well.

And why is everyone’s insult about not liking a trade is simply “go cheer for another team”? It’s okay for me to have a rash (even irrational) reaction like we always do here. I live in Orlando and I go to the games here. I enjoy this team. If I wanted to go and cheer for another team, I would have.
You keep saying that, but Bane really is like a PG. Our top PG candidate this season was Garland, who had his best season and averaged 7.9 apg per 36 mpg on 27% usage. Bane averaged 6.0 apg per 36 on 23% usage.

Reaves averaged 5.9 apg per 36 mpg

Orlando will not take the ball out of Paolo and Franz him to give it to Bane. They will however allow a vet point guard to do the job. Our blockbuster trade should have been for a starting point guard.

I need some deep dive Bane analisis, how is his hables, can he create his shot, how good is he in catch and shoot situations?
With cap rising Bane is on a goof value contract for his status and production, crazy upgrade on Cole and KCP for same cap number. Our starting five is scary now, pinstripes will rule the East next season.

Bane is probably better offensively and defensively than those 4 players.

Moe isn't a free agent until the following year though. He is under contract next year. I imagine he will be back by xmas.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

I don’t think we can pick up his team option.

Bane was one of my dream additions but I did not think Memphis would trade him with him locked up long term. This is an AMAZING addition. I just don't see the panic for a traditional pg in today's NBA when we now have four guys in our starting lineup capable of initiating the offense. Bane is one of the best third options in the league and can also have huge games. His fit next to Paolo, Franz and even Suggs is great. Plus we kept our best player trade chips. We still have AB and JI. That's crazy. Yes, our picks are gone for awhile now, but we have a young core all in their prime about to be locked up and they are still improving. I get the injury concerns, but if we do keep AB, that allows him to easily fill in when Bane/Suggs is out. We aren't losing much on defense and just gained some serious offensive firepower, which was exactly what we need. Plus, Bane doesn't come with the headache or gap in skills that other players would have. Well done, Weltman. Well friggin' done.
We've got our core. LET'S GO. B
EDIT: And second on if Clayton is there at 25. That would be a brilliant pick.

We finally got a guy who isn’t afraid to let it rip from deep and has proven that he can make them at an elite level.

Assists are not the greatest indication of playmaking ability, esp per 36. But Bane is a decent initiator.

2023/24 (when Ja was out)
0.99 ppp as pnr on ball initator
53.2% Efg%
11.3% TO% (top 20 among volume initators)
83rd percentile

Eff yes Jeff Weltman!! Will finally give him his props for having balls and making the necessary move for this team. Sure it’s a slight overpay, but I don’t care because the dream has always been him or Booker as our 2. And it more than likely costed a first to take take on KCP and Cole’s contracts.

ESPN just said Orlando Magic paid a 1st round pick and a half just to get rid of KCP's contract!

Was KCP that bad? Lol

Tbh I know nothing about him. Anyone ever watch him and got a scouting report? Just looking at the stats he seems legit he's at 20ppg on what seems like great efficiency and can shoot the three. Is he a good defender? Where does he fit in on our team?

Weltman & Co., the DeVos family, they literally took a look at our Trade Ideas thread with all the "We can't afford any more 30+ mil players" and "Let's go in on *insert every FA-ish guards' name*" and said HOLD MY BEER.

In comes Desmond BANEEE, mentioned only a few times by some people here because it was so pie in the sky of an idea for a Magic player and comp. And I think we only gave up one single 1st that ends up a top 14 lottery pick. And the players we flipped out were the exact ones needed for Desmond Bame to come in perfectly. Someone who is like KCP but 5-10x better and younger. Someone who can handle the offense like Cole Anthony without giving up positional height and with better sniper numbers.

Assuming we can only go up health-wise from last season's ferris wheel of injuries, this is going to be one of the most exciting seasons ever :onfire:

EDIT: I just can't believe it happened at Mass time. I made it the last two weeks but not today, haha. Happy Father's Day to the Dads out there too.

Return to Orlando Magic
