Bane may not be a true PG (whatever that means) but he is certainly a massive upgrade in both passing and ballhandling from KCP.

and people have been picking apart the drafting of the front office anyways (Cole, Chuma, etc). happy to turn that into a very good player

It sucks losing The Swap with Phoenix next year so Weltman acquired for three crappy 2nds.

You have to wonder if they had to pay something to dump KCP's contract.

The Assets they gave up here hurt although Bane is a great get.

dump KCP and Cole

lets face it, Cole wasnt seen around the league as an asset

We got Bane.

I compared it with Ibaka because it's panic, knee jerk reaction trade where Magic are adding player with name recognition and name value but not player that they actually need.

Desmond Bane is shooting guard. Who can pile up assists. In regular season. But can't run playoff offense.
Magic have Jalen Suggs. Who is shooting guard as well.

Adding another "part time playmaker" on a team filled with "part time playmakers" that nobody can actually make-plays, in playoffs doesn't solve much.
He is much better shooter/scorer than we had in past but main issue ( creation in half court, ball movment, playmaking) is still not solved. Nor now will be. Simply no more assets.

5 first round picks down the drain, and Magic still have no point guard. It was same like Ibaka trade in that sense, Ibaka had high name value, but Ibaka played same position as Gordon, as team had no SF ( nor PG for that matter) .

You keep saying that, but no its not even close to the same

first of all.......The nets signed Durant as a free agent through a sign and trade where the nets didnt give up any draft picks
second of all the trade youre thinking is durant to the suns which included 4 first round picks...........AND MIKAL BRIDGES, CAM JOHNSON and Jae crowder.

Mikal bridges himself was traded for 5 first and nets have had offers of multiple first for cam johnson, so no durant wasnt just traded for 4 first. He was essentially traded for 9 first and their best player in cam

Plus as someone mentioned, Cavs traded Sexton, Markennin and a boatload of picks for Mitchell. So we only traded picks, no young players. People can’t see the difference.

And, the players we did trade were arguably negative value…certainly not Mikal & Cam

It was prime kd territory 6-7 years ago. It's not prime kd territory anymore. See gobert, bridges & siakim trades.

Still missing a true PG tho and like everyone else said, 5 FRPs for a non-all star is a big pill to swallow. I like Orlando, so hope it all works out for you and he doesn’t come in and see his stats drop to a 16-18ppg player…

its four 1st rounds and then a swap. and at the two unprotected will be in the 20's

yes its a gamble, but the team will compete for a top-4 spot in the east next year

To the Magics credit as well, they’re doing one of these “trade all our picks” move with a young team and for a young player. Paolo, Franz, Suggs and Bane are all 22-26yo. That’s a team with a long runway for the next 4 or 5 years, so sacrificing some draft capital for that young of a roster is fine since getting more young draft projects over that timespan is less of a priority than letting the core you just built grow together and tweak around the edges… just gotta really hope this core you built of those 4 has the juice to really be something. The core minus Bane so far has been… ok? Promise there, but a bit weird of a time for an All In move when you don’t know if this core is good enough for that… but again, I’m more OK with this than like what the Suns did moving their haul for a 34yr old Durant.

One way, it's an ingenious move, as the Magic wouldn't and weren’t able to add a player of Bane's magnitude even when they had cap space.
So, last year's deal with KCP looks good now. They flipped KCP and Cole (who was a goner anyway), attached some picks, and got a great player.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed it's not a point guard.
Seems like I'll die without ever seeing a star or even a near-star PG in a Magic uniform. It's been freaking decades since the last one.

I need to see the team play to know this was a gigantic overpay? Why?

Even worse is the fact that we had to ante up extra to make them take KCP off our hands. That was such an awful signing. Some of us were yelled at for not liking that deal. Probably going to get the same heat for being wholly against this trade. Whatever.

Bane $36,725,670

for

KCP $21,621,500
Cole $13,100,000

So the Magic *add* a flat $2 million to their 2025-2026 books.

Declined team options are definitely coming.

they save 2 mill no pick 16...lol

Well we did need a legit shooter and we got one, I'm happy with the trade I like Bane. KCP I'm happy is gone, he struggled so much with his shooting his defense was just ok. Cole I'll miss personality wise but basketball wise he was just way too inconsistent his whole career you could tell he was the odd man out.

It is a lot of picks but we should be a playoff team for a while so the ones that hurt to me are 16 this year and the swap. We still have 25 it has a chance to be someone like Clayton or Wolf or someone unexpected drops and 2 2nd rounders, wouldn't mind packaging them to move up in the early 2nd but I know those are going to be traded for cash.

Hopefully this is the start of us trading, we need a bench. JI, Jett, Garys contract and Goga for better depth if we can upgrade from WCJ that would ideal too, his contract takes a huge bump coming up. Hopefully Mo is declined but brought back on a longer contract. Do we still go after NAW with the MLE? him as the backup to Bane.

Orlando will not take the ball out of Paolo and Franz him to give it to Bane. They will however allow a vet point guard to do the job. Our blockbuster trade should have been for a starting point guard.

i love how you say that with certainty like the coaches are sharing game plans with you. Paolo himself doesnt want to be the main focus of the offense and more of a hub. How do i know that? He said it himself. Whats done is done, im not going to sit around and keep crying about what ifs.

My comment was to Rob, I am not “crying” about anything, just stating my opinion and frustrations. No, they do not share plans with me but it is obvious that he will not be our staring point guard.

You have a great day.

I’ve pushed hard for Simons, Sexton, Coby, McCollum for years…Bame is better than any of them - on both ends (defensively by a mile). He’s not a pure PG, but none of them are- his assists are comparable, so I’m hopeful. He never made my list because it seemed unlikely that we’d aim that high, pay that much for anyone and find a way to absorb that huge deal. Weltman must have a plan for the payroll, but basketball-wise…it’s a home run.

Man, if we could have gotten Scotty out of this trade, I’d feel much better about the price we paid. It is an overpay. There is no doubt about it. I like the player and fit but it’s an overpay. I get why Weltman did it though. Bane is good and on a long, reasonable contract.

The issue with Booker is his contracts and future contract. We couldn’t afford him with our core.

As far as I’m concerned It’s #16, two late firsts, 3 2nds, and a swap that probably won’t happen.
