Who is driving up his market? The Nets seem to be the only bidder right now. Had Lopez not been hurt all year, he'd surely be getting 12 or more a year. Making him a value at 10 mil or so if he's healthy.
I don't think anybody is driving his market up right now but if you look at the centers left in FA, a team may get desperate enough to offer him 12 mil. I think the only decent centers left are McGee, Hawes, and Lopez. Personally I don't see Lopez getting a max offer but I do think his contract is going to be about 10 per which like you said is pretty decent value considering.

Bensational wrote:i'm guessing that Dwight is real scared that the Brooklyn express is gonna leave without him, which is why he's trying to flex his muscle now.
time is on our side. hold on to him, let the Nets use up their capspace and take themselves out of the running, then if he still wants to leave, he won't be trying to scare off as many teams.
if they don't use that space and they do hold out for him, ship him off to the highest bidder that's prepared to offer some youth/picks and an expiring. if no one is buying, then just bench him for the season and teach him the biggest lesson of his life.
The logic, it is pulling me back into its orbit, must.not.succumb.

That's not how it played out. Dwight requested to speak to 3 teams, met with the teams and narrowed it down to one. He was never going to accept anywhere but NJ at the end of the day.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
The Magic are much better off going into a complete tank rebuild and letting Dwight walk than trying to grasp at straws and trade Dwight out of fear. These next few drafts are going to be pretty loaded, so if we went into the tank and started to rebuild and dump contracts, we could emerge in a few years with a couple young studs and a lot of cap space.
Think Cavs but in a place where free agents would actually go.

Not in the same league. Rudolph is a scrub compared to Woj. Remember when Rudolph was milking that Dwight story all night long at the deadline? Lost a lot of respect there.

one thing - if i'm Hennigan, i don't even take phone calls from the Nets. i don't even give them hope that they'll get Dwight, because i know they've got nothing to offer, and that they won't be able to get anything of value from a 3rd team. let them panic themselves into moves to appease Deron.

Agreed. The Magic are in the position of power here because we have more time to drag this out than the Nets do. Hopefully our front office is smart enough to know this.

I trust the team that rob built is smart enough to recognize it.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
Just a thought. Since we'll be in rebuilding mode because of the Dwight situation, could we just make moves to make sure he doesn't end up going to Brooklyn?
1) Renounce rights to Ryno
2) Trade jrich to a team under the cap for Cash and future draft picks (CHA)
3) Waive JJ, making us around 12M under the cap this offseason
4) Sign Brook Lopez to an offer sheet starting at $11M, assuming the JJ trade to Brooklyn pushes through
- if the Nets match, they would be paying around 63M for just 4 players for the 13-14 season (joe johnson, deron, gerald wallace and brook lopez). no way they get dwight.
- if Nets don't match, we get a good scoring center to replace dwight, who at 11-12M annually would be relatively cheap contract compared to the Chandlers, Hibberts, etc. IIRC, brook lopez's stress fracture is the same injury blake griffin had during the year he was drafted, postponing his rookie year, so lopez isn't necessarily damaged goods.

I hope Rob doesn't value Lopez as much as you do. I don't want him on this team.

Too much overcomplification. Trade him to the best offer, whatever team it is.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
we can't let dwight be here again.
get as many quality assets as possible, purge whatever salary we can and move on.
He is a disingenous scum bag, all that loyalty bull was talk. i hope he realizes he just made things much worse than before. we fans don't deserve this.

aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
Don't trade Dwight anywhere this season. Play him and let fans boo the hell out of this a-hole every time he steps on the floor. Make this season a **** nightmare for him. Then totally rebuild the franchise in 2013. Anybody in?

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXX: Offseason Edition)
I've been gone all weekend and have got tidbit updates via word of mouth about transpiring in the Magic Kingdom. Can anyone run me up to speed on the major details of what has happened? All I've heard is that Dwight requested a trade (no shocker and not mad about it if true) on Friday, and he also is accusing the Magic of blackmailing him and is looking to pursue legal action to void his opt-in (dafuq?)
