If you look at my prior post I don't think highly of Victor either. Could not make it on the Magic. Could not make it on the Thunder. Suddenly makes it on a over-achieving Pacers team that lacks talent and scores big numbers, I'm not too shocked. I personally think its a fluke, but if he can keep for more then 2 seasons I might change my opinion and admit i am wrong. Signing AG to a max Contract is like TJ Warren to a max contract. Two guys playing Ok but not really helping their teams win.

Young players don’t usually win games... especially when they’re not allowed to. There’s no doubt that AG isn’t a finished product but he’s more talented then anyone on the team (minus maybe Isaac).

Aaron Gordon is solid however guys who have gotten max money or will likely get max money in his own draft contract(Parker, Wiggns, Embiid, or Jokic) have either helped their teams win or have put up better numbers on better teams surrounded by better talent. Seriously, max money is nearly 30 million a year, is he really worth that much????

I don’t think his max is $30 mil... I’ve been out of the loop with the current CBA but I’m pretty sure you need to be an older vet or have all-star appearances/mvp’s to get that type of money at 22. Isn’t it closer to $25 mil?

Exactly. He’s playing OK, but he’s inconsistent and isn’t willing us to win. He will make max (most likely) because it’s the nature of the league.

It doesn’t make it a good decision for us though to place bets on him just because he is young and has had a string of great performances.

In a vacuum it doesn’t make sense to max him when compared to the other caliber of maxed level players around the league that actually put up numbers consistently.

The will to win is what is the biggest thing for me, he plays like he is just there. He doesn't push it to another gear. Honestly, he is on the same level of a Victor and Harris, not stars but good players. Not guys you want to make your center piece but guys you surround your center piece with. I predicted 10 to 16 but after looking up how much Victor was making (20 million) i might have to bump it up a bit. However, it would just be crazy to me if the magic really gave AG 30 million a year. That just seems wasteful.

Embiid and Wiggins (same draft class) both got a 5 year 148 million contracts, basically 30 million a year. I would not give AG that type of money. Victor got 20 million a year.

That’s what they got from their current teams who could offer more. I thought it was pretty well known that we’re going to let AG look for someone else to give him an offer. Other teams can only offer 4 years and the raises are different. Otto Porter Jr got 4 years 104... so yeah, 26 per is the most AG could get. I’m thinking he’ll get an offer anywhere between 20-26.

That still seems like much to me, I rate Porter higher then Aaron. Based on what Victor got, my adjusted salary is 16 to 20.

I’m glad there are other people that feel this way as well. Too bad your posts are going to trigger 90% of the board.

I find it odd that you would post something like this... This topic was brought back up when he came off a hot start and then posters were saying he was all-star caliber at that point. Though this isn't directed at me, I myself came in and personally said that I was happy with the start (more directly his shooting/free throws) but stated it wan't sustainable (given nobody makes that sort of incredible jump of being a consistent shooter within a year from being an in-capable shooter) and he hadn't added any other significant skillset to his game.

Now those same posters from the start are nowhere to be seen during this stretch.

Now he's playing closer to what was more realistic for him (though I do agree his shooting is better than what it is now during the losing streak). Now all of a sudden you're saying people want him to fail because now he's not playing at an outrageous level that he was playing at during the beginning of the season and people are pointing that out.

For a guy who called me a Vucevic fanboy a ways back for saying he was the most versatile/best offensive option this team has (which is unfortunate as he is a 3rd/4th/5th option role player on a winning team). You seem hell bent at defending Gordon from any sort of criticism by all cost. Blaming other players for his shortcomings (on a crappy team with no credible first option), and calling any fan who doesn't see him as a potential star player "people who want to see him fail". Your Gordon bias is off the charts.

There’s a difference between criticism and critiquing. I’m down for critiques of any player, because they’re rational and they weigh up the pros and cons. Criticism is purely focusing on flaws.

I don’t think anyone said he could sustain a 60% 3pt percentage. Everyone knew that would come down. For it to come down, he has to miss shots. The difference is that some people seem to relish in seeing him miss shots, and my guess it’s purely for “I told you so” bragging rights.

I’m clearly not a Vuc fan, but I will always praise him when he’s playing well - as I did at the start of the season. But there are some here who are incapable of doing that when it comes to Gordon. Why wouldn’t we want to celebrate players performing well?

Also, for years Vuc fanboys have been shifting blame whenever others pointed out his shortcomings, blaming those on the rest of the team. But that privilege is off limits to Gordon? Gordon fails on his own, but Vuc is a soft defender because of the rest of the team. That just doesn’t fly for me.

There’s plenty of room for Gordon to improve. He’s not a finished player, at all. But too many people are too impatient to wait for him to actually develop. So rather than critiquing him and acknowledging strengths along with room to improve, they go straight to thinly veiled pot shots at him.

So yeah, sitting quietly during Gordon’s hot streak and surfacing only once he’s slumped to say “Sooo....” or “at least we can get him for a bargain deal” falls squarely in that category of people who just want to see Gordon fail so they can say they were right all along, for me.

BOTH sides are complicit to trying to hold bragging rights. Like I said when Gordon started the season hot people said he was a "Star in the making" and would take his game to greater heights and he already proved his detractors wrong. Now all of a sudden when he has a slump/poor shooting streak the other is doing the exact same thing. But for you, you make it seem like people are celebrating or are happy that he isn't playing up to par. Like I stated before if he becomes a star nobody cares about this conversation, and if he doesn't we move onto the next young player to see if he can take that mantle.

Nobody who criticizes him says he's horrible. The consensus from what I've seen of Gordon is that he's good player. The only issue that is taken is saying he has star player or potential or is playing like a star player (Which the latter is not true given the current incarnation of Gordon he's pretty far from).

Vucevic hasn't been off limits to criticism. He's relatively soft and a poor rim protector and a guy who at times takes too many shots... that is known... The problems that have risen with him given the blame is the fact that people complain about him being the 1st option on offense when its clear nobody else doesn't have the offensive talent to supersede him. Payton isn't a shooter/scorer, Fournier is just a shooter/scorer who has tunnel vision, and Gordon doesn't have enough skill offensively and is just finally figuring out how to shoot after having an identity crisis figuring out if he was a 3 or 4.

I like Vuc myself and I realize he's no all-star big, but given the talent this team has an a lack of a go to player/creator he's probably the most versatile player this team has. Gordon and Payton fans try to paint him as a guy who is taking their shots away when that makes no sense.

1. Payton is a PASS FIRST PG in a mold of a Rondo and Kidd, where he'll rarely look to score as getting his teammates involved is his style.

2. Like you said there is plenty room for Gordon to grow, and you've agreed with me in the past that he's no where ready to take a major load of the offense given where we feel his development is at. Like I said prior he's now figuring out how to shoot, and the rest of his offense is still pretty primitive.

3. They currently run a spread offense... Everyone takes around the same amount of shot attempts since there is no clear star. I can agree that players are being misused offensively to some degree (especially Payton). But from what I see from this team is what I've been saying about them since last year. They're extremely untalented, and no blame can be pointed at one player for how bad the team is. That's why I never go out of my way to single out a guy for a team for not having success.

very well put. everyone seems to want to blame Orlando losing all on 1 player. Whether that blame is at Elf, AG, Vuc or Evan. Each player has their warts, but it is not like we have 1 player taking 20+ shots a game and everyone else scrambling, we have about 4 player each taking the same amount of shots a night, no 1 player is stopping another player from developing.

Yeah, there is confusion between dissent and hatred on the magic board. I believe ever since Dwight left fans have grown used to players like Victor, Harris, Vuc, Evan, and now AG, that they have forgotten what a true max player looks like; with any sign of potential and with a great need for a star they are quick to declare any one a max player. But I guess it's understandable, you have to be excited for a team and it's players even if it's deserving or not.

Pretty much, the board won't let you be "in the middle" on the guy. Either they paint you as an obsessive fan or hater. You can't win.

Fair call. I'm not expecting him to be a star either. I'm just happy to see him improving as the season goes on.

Well, hopefully he improves to be less of a system scorer. Its going to be hard for him to be a star if he has to rely on other players to create for him. He makes good offensive reads and all, but breaking down defense is what will separate him from being a system scorer.

It’s wildly inconsistent. Much like his game.
