So does that mean if the lottery happens and 3 teams are picked before us we are guaranteed the #4 pick?

To make it as simple as possible, the lottery is actually just for the top 3 picks and then it goes by record.

Thanks to you and drsd. Made it a lot easier to understand

An interesting part of the draft lotto reveal. Because of how it's done, they draw the top 3 teams first, then others go by record, when they are revealing from pick 14 down, if a team doesn't show up in their spot, they're guaranteed a top 3 pick. So let's say we're on pick 12 and the Raptors isn't in the envelope, that means they're nabbed a top 3 spot.

No offense to you BMP, But just at RealGM you post 2000 times a year... And it always seems to be that 90% of what you say adds no value because it is just a repeat of the 10% you already said 100 times...

I think in the last two months I have read over and over again that you
#1 Hate Noel
#2 think we should make the playoffs next year and not tank.

To help those of you who are unsure of how the lottery works, best way to learn is to watch the last few years of lotteries.

2011:

2009:

And for some nostalgia ;)
1993:

When watching the 1993 draft lottery, i got a bit scared watching Shaun Bradley, he looked just like Nerlens Noel but half a foot shorter. My god i hope he doesnt end up a bust like Bradley.

I always hate how they make it seem like a game show or something. "Now i know your entire franchise might rest on this but wouldn't it be awesome if we eliminated everyone one by one dramatically? Obviously everyone says this draft sucks but watch closely as everyone rages when we get 3rd or 4th.

My main beef with how it all works is that they dont show the actual lottery draw process itself. That is all done behind closed doors which is obviously why there are so many conspiracy theories. At the end of the day, if the league was genuinely not operating suspiciously, then wouldnt they be making a more serious effort to prove that they were legit? And if so, the first thing they would do to show that would be an open to the public draw of the lottery balls.

Shaun Bradley was serviceable enough for the Mavericks way back then though I would say Jonathan Bender is the better comparison who is almost identical minus the D. It's crazy that no one yet brought up about him which makes me think could happen with Nerlens Noel. Forgotten. Yikes!

How in the world can you compare Bender to Noel? Bender did not have the same game as Noel and his injuries were not prior to the draft, it was way after the draft...

Bender was a player with no heart and no determination to work toward being an elite player.

I am not sure if Noel would even be close to this type of category as a player.... He was injured on a hustle play. Noel has always been known for his work ethic and his laying it all out on the court...that is the opposite of Bender.

Because it would be anti-climatic with the top pick being drawn first.

Jonathan Bender was drafted at 5th in 1999 and was back then thought to have high potential given his athleticism but was plagued with injuries thus not maximizing his potentials, which I thought was the same with Noel being tall and thin and of course his current injury but I have no doubt with Noel's intangibles and work ethic. I'm just afraid to think that we might see it only on a short term.

how can you say "he has always been known for his work ethic". He just turned 19 and finished 1 year of college. playing ball in HS and AAU is expected. The work ethic is when you show from year to year how much better you have gotten. That usually shows up in college and the pro's, not as a HS player.

The allure of Bender was that he was a 7 footer who handled and shot like a shooting guard. He wasn't the game changing defensive force that Noel is. At best, he was supposed to be a homeless man's Kevin Durant.
