Just a heads up. He can't create offense or get by anyone off of the dribble anymore unless he has a very good angle. Even in a P&R he has a hard time. He can still shoot though.

Not sure we would have waived Jameer if we weren't 100% starting either Dipo or Elfrid at PG. I think Dipo starts the season at PG if Elfrid needs time to adjust.

Ridnour should be backup at best off the bench taking whatever is left after dipo and EP.

Now if the deal is worth something serious then maybe yeah he starts, but Hennigan said that we would only be making minor moves at this point. This is one of them.

Luke and Willie will not see much PT, I hope.

I'm OK with Ridnour...he'll sit the bench mostly and is cheap.

You guys are getting way too upset about a guy who is on a 1 year deal. My god.

Better than the garbage backup guards we had last year.

I think we should just call him "Coach Rid", because he'll be more valuable in practice than in games, i agree w/ your assessment.
He's 33, 2 year deal w/ team option on 2nd or less is the only option. Vet min.

He's effectively an expiring, yeah, sooooooo terrible!! How is it a bad deal when he can axed after 1 year? Low risk medium reward.

I see many of the small FA deals as bench upgrades. Luke Ridnour easily takes all of the past guards together as an increased package. Lamb, Price, and Moore for Ridnour: a clear upgrade in my book.

Frye is an upgrade over Davis and Maxiell.

Gordon is not an upgrade over Afflalo.

..

Seems it would be more like Gordon + Fournier vs Afflalo as an upgrade or not.

Ben Gordon was a low-risk-some-potential signing. To me, his signing is more for off-the-court reasons. If a player we covet does become available, he can be used as an attractive salary-matching piece on an expiring contract. Also, who else did you want? No stars were coming and Jameer was offered a chance to compete and play a meaningful role on the court. Don't complain about us spending money we had to spend without offering any sort of justification.

As for Ridnour, I like that he will know his role and be able to share his knowledge with Elf and Vic.

Luke Ridnour is a solid pickup and he can probably start if Elfrid Payton is not/until he is ready.

Baring a trade, this pretty much finalizes The Magic roster for next season.

2nd or 3rd PG...

We'll see how the rotation shakes out...

But a solid signing...

Because it was the only way to hand the team over to Harris, Dipo and company. As long as Nelson was with the Magic he was going to be the leader.

An 11 year veteran. Good.

Take a look at the years of experience for everyone on our roster. Notice anything missing? Or rather, a range of numbers missing?

I think this is a key aspect of what Hennigan is doing, but I don't see it mentioned much. I posted my theory to the Official Henny Stance thread if you can't figure out the answer. :)

(Oops, forgot to write it there! Fixed now.)

I do know that Hennigan does his due diligence and would have layed out the guidelines on the table for BG. I don't think he would sign a guy whose pasts would indicate that they would not exactly fit in with our culture without laying out the rules first.

The team has shown a willingness to eat money when they have to. Let's see what happens if he turns out to be the cancer you're predicting.

Thrilled with this move. Great guy to teach Elf and I have always loved Ridnour. Excited to see him in a Magic uni. I would not be shocked to see him start on opening night but I do think he eventually gives way to Elf before the midpoint of the season at the latest.
Payton/Ridnour/Dipo
Dipo/Fournier/Gordon/Greene
Harris/Mo/Fournier
Frye/Gordon/Nicholson
Vooch/KOQ/Dedmon

This team might be able to pull off 35 wins if everyone stays healthy.
