Well we did expect this no?

to those glass half-empty : This sucks, so many chances for a quality player in the 2nd round

to those glass half-full : we aren't gonna start the season with 3 rookies. Makes sense.

to those like me : HA!! Watch out OKC, we will be gunning for your record of 16 draft picks to 2026.

Wow, after they're fired and their replacements are fired, that 3rd guy is going to have a protected 2nd rounder that may get us that ring.

Obviously i meant specifically this move, but look at our roster, we have a lot of young prospects and propably 2 more incoming in Chuma and 2020 frp.
Weltman didnt inherit any assets 3 years ago and now we have a nice young core. You act like we had Paul George, Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis to trade.

They inherited a team that was already good enough to make the playoffs just with a coaching change.

Out of the 4 prospects they've brought in over the 3 seasons they've been here those players have had 1 complete season between them.

You act like they drafted a core or Davis, George and Westbrook. All they did was flip a 2nd Rd pick. It's not worthy of praise or hate.

Well Isaac is still believed to be worth near max by John Hollinger even with the injury. Okeke seems to posses skillset no one really has this year and Bamba..... well i am not a huge fan but he showed flashes before the shutdown i cant deny.

I dont care about second round pick in a weak draft. If we didnt like anyone it was better to move it. Its not me who is acting like we traded prime Dwight Howard
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I also thought about that! It's like they saw my post about OKC's picks and were like 'oh, you guys want picks? We got you!'

Agreed although I highly doubt they take a gamble on hampton. Which you know would be one of the guys with the most upside at that pick since they should be swinging for the fence on a 15 pick. But we all knoe they love to play it safe

chances of that are slim don't you think?

isnt that was 2nd round picks are for? most dont make a team at all. So who cares if you have more than 1 rookie coming in? you think chances are better with a pick in the late 50's and 48-55ish than the 45th?

Ok, so we traded 1 chance at that for 2.
Don't see much difference between 45 and 55.

wasn't marc gasol drafted 48th overall? hmmm....so we trade the pick for a future where weltham won't probably be around because they are so gun-shy? another run it back year? do these cats think they have unlimited years on their contract? It's kinda funny in a way that they are so secretive and try to make sure nothing leaks and yet they are still somewhat predictable....i was hoping they wouldn't sell or trade the pick but i was naïve

Will add, this year with an EXSTREAMLY short pre-season camp, it would be hard to give them a fair look.

With workouts being limited, I’m not surprised they punted for an extra pick a few years from now.

We will have two rookies playing this year anyways. The second would have likely gone G League and who knows if they will even be playing.

What’s the point of trading the pick this early? What if a guy they liked fell to 45.. sounds like Sleepy John and Sleepy Chris just wanted to get to bed early.. the time change has been making me a little more tired too I can’t blame them

Yup.. I'll give you that. This season where the offseason is what? just a month away? No pre-season, no summer league right? Throw into the fire directly. Hard to "properly" evaluate rookies, how much more a 2nd rounder.

Also remember players who bet on their abilities often prefer not to be drafted in the second round. We will propably sign some undrafted from the similar pool of players than at 45.
Trading a pick you dont like seems more active than just selecting a player becouse you have to.

I actually do not mind this move and getting 2 future second round picks for #45 is actually a good haul.

They are assets that can be used in Trades and those 2nds could be pretty good down the line.

Keep in mind, The Magic signed a player DeQuan Jeffries last year who unfortunately turned down Two-Way Deal and ended up having a good run after Sacramento claimed him off waivers.

The Magic probably figure they can get someone from the Undrafted pool and also doubt they want to have three rookies on the 15 Man Roster.

except the players dont really get to say, hey, dont draft me in the 2nd round. they make themselves available for the draft and if they are taken they dont have a say.

I just hate how they punted on the pick before even knowing who would even be available at #45. Why even have a scouting department for the 2nd half of every draft if you're just going to continue to ignore it. The good teams are able to find value in those places and after 4 years, the Weltman-Hammond regime has just squandered those picks.

I wonder how much of this is financial too. In a year where a lot of teams are losing money, I could see the Magic deciding to not want to pay a rookie 2nd round pick this year.

LOL at the Bucks 2026 2nd round pick. I'm certain Weltman and Hammond won't be around to even see that one through.

I am going to be so pissed if Mannion or Madar are just sitting there at 45, and instead we run back a 33 year old, 5'11" DJ as the back up.

Guess I get to go to bed early.

So the message here is that WeHam don't believe any rotation calibre players will be drafted from 45 onwards. If any one of those 15 players turns out to be a capable player (perhaps Riller as a backup PG) then they'll have failed at evaluating the draft.
