Only reason this matters is these guys will be the two interim guys who take over while the franchise looks for new management after being sold to Shaq.

Not saying they turn off their phones but if they were going to make trades it makes no sense to not do them at draft or last week.
I mean I wouldn’t think the work is done but that’s me.

Why would it be odd. Most of our wheeling and dealing for the summer is now done. Perfect timing to transition in my opinion. Hammond is still involved to help during the transition and the beginning of Parker's roll. We'll see how our future looks after this all.
They did immediately after the draft and FA. Before summer league. Trades are still being talked about. Roster still imbalanced. Idk. Feels off but maybe Parker had some input before the official word.
With Parker already working for the Magic in a front office role, and with Weltman planning to make this move with Parker for some time, I think its pretty reasonable to conclude that Parker has already been involved in FO decisions for the Orlando version of the team.

I wonder what Shaq's team building strategy looks like. Kinda scares me.rcklsscognition wrote:Only reason this matters is these guys will be the two interim guys who take over while the franchise looks for new management after being sold to Shaq.

I would imagine free agents would respect him since he's an ex-player. He also has a Hall of Fame sister, Candice Parker.

I like the move, but do find the timing odd. I'm guessing it was planned. Parker is a smart guy who seems to know the game.

Congrats to those two. Yeah, some of our players aren’t safe. They were Weltman’s picks.

I particularly think players that were acquired during the Vooch phase are vulnerable. Fultz in particular stands out as a Hammond guy. Cole Anthony and Jonathan Isaac as well.ORLMagicGirl15 wrote:Congrats to those two. Yeah, some of our players aren’t safe. They were Weltman’s picks.

You realize that Weltman's position is above GM's position right?

Indeed.
It is very clear that the PBO makes the draft decisions. In that the Magic GM is a "senior adviser".

The ESPN article (last paragraph) notes that it's been planned.
A lot of times when someone retires, no matter the industry, the retiree and the organization work out a transition plan in advance, especially when they're in a leadership role as John was.

AntMan is definitely a much better nickname than Weltham, so that's cool at least.

Well, he won Euroleague 3 times and he was the MVP twice. He must have some connections with European teams and that could facilitate drafting foreign players, maybe even the idea of drafting Franz came from him.

Yes. He played for us years ago. They were tagging him as a future executive when he was a player hereORLMagicGirl15 wrote:basketballRob wrote:I would imagine free agents would respect him since he's an ex-player. He also has a Hall of Fame sister, Candice Parker.

Re: Magic Promote Anthony Parker to General Manager, John Hammond Moves to Senior Advisor
I wouldn't say he "played" for us. He showed up for 16 games and got cut. Returned in nba after 7 years.
In Maccabi him and Nikola Vujčić (no, not Nikola Vučević ,and damn all elite nba centers in Europe are called Nikola...) were some of most elite duos Euroleague had.
He is well respected person all across Europien basketball. He also payed his dues for us, guy has been grinding and busting his a** since 2012, started as damn scout.
I'm just not sure how much voice he has when decisions are made.
