I still feel we're most likely being used as leverage, but it's still nice that a player with the resume of PG would meet with us.

Now if he would sign with us, I would be very excited, not gonna lie. Despite his age and somewhat odd fit, he was still borderline all-star last season. And he can still shoot. And Paul George used to be my favorite non-Magic player in the league at one point, but that was way back in his Indiana days; especially pre-injury, defensive monster PG24 on those good Pacers teams.

I think that clearing enough to give him the max was saying we'll pay him the max. That may have been a prerequisite to a meeting. We can pay him a contract that starts off at around $49m. That's roughly what the Knicks paid OG.

Looks like Magic brass uses a private aviation partner so there's no chance to track them bastards down ;)

It's a complete no-brainer to sign PG13. Let me explain a few reasons why, now that our odds to sign him have gone from 0% to like 10-30% chance.

The first is the similar metaphor that happened with Rashard Lewis and the Magic. Just because PG13 MIGHT be 1-2 years past his prime (key word: might), doesn't mean he still isn't going to be an All Star 2-3 more times at least. There is a long path from your prime year all the way to your journeyman ending, especially with a star player of this length, skillset, and shooting.

What's even crazier is how desperate we are for even just 34% 3P shooting, and you can add this star player who fits us perfect. It's the same thing with Brandon Ingram, I believe the Magic see Franz and Paul capable of guarding many 2's, and that many teams are getting taller in the 2 and 3 spots anyways. Paul George would be our best player when factoring experience and versatility, but has the maturity and point forward mindset to raise up Paolo and Franz towards their maximum potential even on his own big PG13 nights.

It's an easy 4 year, 212 max contract offer. And the fact we declined the beloved Mo Wagner and Joe Ingles is crazy, it really shows that Paul can sign on the spot in Orlando, if he's happy enough and game. Because PG13 probably sees the no state income tax, one of the biggest after-NBA spots, the good weather year round, and most importantly, PG13 just saw Boston SLEEPWALK into a championship. THIS IS a play for the title just as much as anything else.

This can be a play for multiple ECF's, and more than one trip to the Finals, and a surprisingly extremely serious title chance in Orlando. And because of his role and perfect fit, he would still be a top 1-4 piece for it whether it happens in year 1 or in years 3-6 in Orlando.

What about his age not being perfect for our timeline? I don't see it as an issue for a few reasons, such as his perfect matching fit, projecting him to age out of the NBA much slower than average, and most of all, the PERMANENT elite contender status that he would vault us into would be so long running that if he came off the books, we would be a super hot destination for other star players like PG13.

Think he's coming here.... think about it guys play with Paolo and Franz or stay on the team with Harden + Westbrook. I'd want to leave too.

Come play for the up and coming team with a positive culture.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

This is gonna be resolved quickly, one way or the other tonight.

They can’t afford to wait around for PG to make his decision and potentially lose out on a KCP/Hartenstein combo.

This, they really can't afford to wait around for a free agent to mull over their decision and then spurn us, and then the already shallow free agency pool is eviscerated with us holding the bag and no one to give it to. That would be disastrous.

He is top 30 player in nba right now, i think we can agree on this. He was an all star last season and deservedly so.
Durant and Curry are 2 years older than him -so they are the age you are afraid PG would be in 2 years - they obviously are not in their prime, but would you say there is nothing left in the tank?

This was Ray Allen at the same age (34) - 18.2/3.5/2.8 .480/.409/.952
And this - 2 years later - 16.5/3.4/2.7 .491/.444/.881

Paul Pierce at 34 - 18.9/5.4/3.3 .497 .374 .860
and at 36 18.6/6.3/4.8 .436 .380 .787

Frankly i could keep digging numbers but its a boring exercise.
If he doesnt get injured (the big if) he'll give us at least a couple of very good seasons and in 3-4 years time he can be a trading chip/matching contract for another star...

LAC makes sense for him but stranger longshots have happened. Hold the meeting, make the pitch, pivot to plan B if necessary. I’m good with whatever.

LAC have no other choices than pay him, they have the new stadium coming soon

If pg13 leaves, harden would too

They can't afford this and pg13 want to stay in LA

He is just leveraging Orlando to gets what he want and wepark are not falling for it

Per Marc Stein:

“Denver's Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and New York's Isaiah Hartenstein are the free agents Orlando has been linked to most frequently by league insiders, but again: The Magic made it onto the shortlist of teams to land a free-agent meeting with George.”

I don't think we can offer him full max outright. If we do, it's sign and trade and we'd have to send Clippers someone.

Sign and trades are no longer an option for George after he opted out of his contract.

Orlando can offer George:

2024-25: $49.35m
2025-26: $51.8m
2026-27: $54.3m
2027-28: $56.75m

4 years, $212 million.

Orlando would have be a little under $3M below the cap after signing George and still have a $8M exception to fill in some holes.

I mean signing KCP & Hartenstein is a great consolation prize. I’m pretty sure agents/players will wait for this to be resolved before agreeing to anything/anyone.

Per Woj:

Paul George continues to seek a fourth season in his contract offer from the Los Angeles Clippers as free agency is set to open with him having the opportunity to meet with the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic. George is also wondering how about his chances of winning a title if he re-signs with the Clippers as opposed to the path the Sixers have in the Eastern Conference.

He wants that fourth year on his contract. The Clippers have not offered it. And certainly he's looking at that Clipper roster and asking himself too, 'Are we a championship contender?'

The Magic can offer him that fourth year. And Philadelphia... is there a clear path in the Eastern Conference to try to win? The willingness of the Sixers and Magic to offer a fourth season to George is very appealing to him.

If the Clippers were going to offer that fourth year, they probably would have already.
